He already did three fantastic tables, Black Knight 2000, Diner, and Whitewater

He did tutorials about the way he does transparent ramps and flashers

He should be a VIP ! ;)

When did you see someone get promoted to VIP here last ? We all know he deserves it - but, I wouldn't count on anyone getting promoted anytime soon. Just as embedded youtube videos and other stuff that is broken doesn't get fixed.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

The tale of the genie...

(Sponsored by Randr and my brother, many thanks to them both!!)

JPSalas' table has a genie, but it is kind of lowres and not detailed enough for additional prerendered lighting. When I posted a first screenshot on the other site, Randr said that he could get me better images of the genie, since he owns a real Totan. I asked him to take pictures of the genie while turning it around its z-axis, and so he did (in total 30 photos):

screenshot064_t.jpg

With this and some fancy photogrammetry software my brother was able to convert these images into a 3d model, with a texture as well. The model he made for me has 200k triangles and a texture of 4096x4096 resolution. With this texture I created a bumpmap, you can do that by taking the original texture...:

screenshot067_t.jpg

And with a highpass filter in photoshop convert it into this bumpmap:

screenshot066_t.jpg

Together with a prerendered glossy render for some soft reflections, the final base texture of the genie looks like this:

screenshot0602_t.jpg

To show off the high resolution model I put in some highlights (2 point lights in Blender):

screenshot0612_t.jpg

Now, with a highres model it is much easier to make some nice effects, such as red glowing eyes:

screenshot0620_t.jpg

This red eye effect can be transferred into VPX, by displaying a separate primitive which has only the red eye effect. The price is another primitive in Blender, but the result is quite nice.

In order to transfer this genie to VPX, the amount of triangles has to be reduced, I managed to get a good model by going from 200k to 11k triangles:

screenshot063_t.jpg

The good news is that the reduced 11k genie, uses the rendered texture of the 200k genie. For the lamp I also made a normal map, but since the genie is sort of rubbery (no shiny reflections) I do not need that in VPX for the genie.

The end result in VPX (also with prerendered insert light reflection effect):

And a short video showing the fading light effects in VPX as well (eyes and insert light reflection):

go, :db:
I think I've been late to this thread and I do not know what to say that all of you have not said, :bye2:
just add that I could play TOTAM for the first time in my beloved XBOX 360 console with the edition of "williams pinball classic", since then and until now, the best version of this classic is in VPX,
after seeing the images,I just have to wait and want to play this great version.  :give_rose:

So cool that you used photogrammetry, think vp toys are the perfect application for it. We can’t all sculpt like Tom Tower...at least I can’t :)

Here’s a nice ref I came across if it is off use. Looking great.
