Frog,

I can only speak to my tables on this. But from what I have seen, many authors use very similar settings.

I typically set the slider at 2 dashes from the left and my EES is usually 1-4. IMO, changing either the slider or EES does the same thing.

Now if the EES goes to 0, then the tables goes unrealistically dark. If you raise any higher than 10 or so. It becomes unrealistically bright but again, YMMV. I typical use the camera and lighting feature to set the EES to what looks best for me and thats all I do for global lighting.

i use 270 because it is legacy, i have a lot of vp9 that are 270 and are not angle independant and i don't want to change them, because they are too much also, best is to ask toxie to have 3 pov settings, dt, fs0 and fs270

makes perfect sense on the legacy stuff, but oh gawd no, not another set of settings.  What really needs to happen is those settings need to be decoupled from monitor orientation, FS is FS whether it's portrait or landscape.  The only thing, in an ideal world, you should have to change is xy rotation and it just works.  X and Y should be table X and Y, not monitor X and Y. Simple for everyone other than some work on toxie or fuzzel or whoever knows how to code it's part.  Only time you would need to mess with the other stuff is if you either don't like how it's setup by the builder, or you have a monitor that is not the standard 16:9.

I use 270 and iRotate if I want/ need to use the playfield in portrait mode. Real editing I do on a separate pc. I have default pov settings to start from in 270 and tweak this to my liking. If new versions of a table are released I export the pov settings from the old table and import them for the new one to save time.

I use -270 and I think most people do. No problem with adjusting this for a new table and playing with backdrop settings. Only a bit if the 5th update within 2 weeks is out and I have to do it again and again* ;) . But in this case I just take the settings of my first version.

* actually this keeps me from downloading EVERY update close after first release... also, I sometimes change the ball image...

Totally agree here.  So many tables get released and then have .1 .01 .02 etc. a few days later.  I also hate the dull/dark HDR ball used in many VPX tables and swap it out for a JP Silver one.  Might be my old eyes...!!

I've used 0 from the get go. I do have a question about the 'Field Of View' setting. I don't understand why it should be set to anything other than 0. A real pinball machine has a rectangular playfield - no sloping inwards to simulate depth. Why would you use this on a cabinet? The cabinet is the exact same size as a real pinball machine. Wouldn't you want it to be exactly the same as a real pinball table (I assume that's what you're aiming for in a cabinet).

for "1 level" tables (most tables up to the 80s), that's true and I do it the same way as you do, but for later more level tables with high ramps and so, it's different. These cabs have a steeper angle for the glass, than for the playfield, so they actually have different depths at front and back. Those i setup, that the front has complete width of my display and the upper corners of the back wall also. Anything else below then shows the perspective, like a real table would.

Thanks for the explanation... I'll take another look at some of the newer tables and play with the FOV setting.

If I set the tables to 0 then they are displayed sideways if I'm at the front of my machine. So I have to change it to 270. Or am I missing something here?

@umpa  this was more about how windows is setup for your playfield.  Your playfield is landscape so to see it straight on you have to stand at the side of your cab, several of us run with windows in portrait mode (narrow and tall) so when we stand where we play we can work on tables or whatever without having to look sideways.

Thank you for the explanation. I will have to put windows in portrait mode and give it a shot!
