Really curious what their first table will be. Will it be a spike game or a Sam game? Or another whitestar game? I feel like it's either got to be lotr or got... But Metallica is a strong option too and probably one of their better selling games

I would guess that its mainly games without a license fee or a cheap one at least.

Also i doubt that they have a -fully- working SAM or SPIKE emulation at hand at the moment.

Do they even have a non-license game? If they release anything pre-2000 first people will be upset. They're expecting a big table. I would bet they already have digital licenses baked into their current agreements so that leaves anything since Metallica up for grabs, + Iron Man, and most likely LOTR if the rumors of a VE hold water. And since they're working with HBO on GoT why not throw Sopranos into the mix?

I think you will see older Stern games first, then SAM games. I doubt they will get to the point of releasing SPIKE games since they aren't emulated yet. I guess if you like to play these games on the ipad they could be fun, but Farsight would have to get full cab support available before I would even consider it.

We probably won't hear anything about this for a year anyway.

Why would they even have to emulate spike? They are going to work with stern on this and farsight would prorably just port the code to their app. Even emulating sam is quite taxing and these guys want to release on mobile too. And no doubt it is much easier than to emulate another system, kinda like what Shoopity did with AMH. Based on original code on a different platform.

I wonder if they're accepting resumes...

Gary Stern called.  He didn't ask for your resume, but he did ask for your real name and address.  That's a start!  :dblthumb:

Maybe they cancelled cabinet support in TPA so they could add cabinet support in this new app?? Maybe...pretty please?!

Have they officially announced that they have no plans for cabinet support?  I hadn't heard that yet.

It depends on how high level Stern us currently developing their games. I would hope that at least with SPIKE they could fully program in C/C++ and with a lot of hardware abstraction, but with SAM i would guess that a lot would still be done very very low level (but who knows for sure).

And i still wonder how TPA does the software part of the 'emulation'. Sometimes i have the feeling that the software seems to be redone from scratch as something feels off. Also the sound sounds recorded instead of emulated (which is good IMHO). But this both sounds like a real lot of work, and prone to a lot of errors when trying to get everything 100% correct.

Grand Prix, High Roller Casino, Sharkeys Shootout, Striker Xtreme. But that seems to be not enough for a separate release on the other hand.

Would be cool if they can get some licensed games out, as i enjoy playing their recreations usually.

Some excitement over at TPA forum over a third party workaround for lack of official cab support. Haven't tried it yet, but aim to soon:

They have a few odd hooks in to there emu system. Also the  recorded sounds are likely triggered by emu calls.

hardware abstraction maybe but there likely alot of stuff that may need to be worked on also I think spike has a lot of OS stuff that may need a EMU to work right unless it's proc like and can some what easy to hook to a fake table. But the pinball game code / base pinball OS engine may need a lot work to get right and each game has the OS + game code all in one and they are not all updated at the same time.

Yes, there was an interview a few weeks ago where they said they've dropped doing it all together for TPA.

And now let's watch for a multi-play virtual cabinet built by Stern with software and front end by Farsight that accepts quarters. "Build it, and they will steal it and make money off it."

That'a very likely. About a year ago Stern mentioned they were going to build virtual cabs, the big discussion was what platforms it would run. We all knew it wouldn't be VP. With this announcement, I can almost guarantee these cabs will come with PBA installed on their own OS.

As for building these games, Farsight will punch them out. I've seen you guys blow games out fast, working in your spare time, writing code, working with emulators, cleaning up artwork, creating models. Imagine this, hiring on a team of programmers that actually get paid to reproduce these games. Being handed the code, every sound, sample, animation, model, etc. Then given very hi-def scans of everything, hell not even scans but the original work. It would definitely cut the time down by 1000%

I can see the big 'Virtual Cab' unveiling right now.

Yeah, I thought of that as well.
Would be the most plausible reason why farsight stopped cab support for TPA.

Not likely. I talk to them quite a bit, and we just shipped a VirtuaPin to the owner of Farsight, even.

There are other projects in the pipe, and their cab support has come a long way. It's just not ready yet, and, in business, priorities can change.

'Suspended indefinitely', as stated in the interview, just means something else takes precedence right now, and it's uncertain when that will change.

FX is a good example of lack of licence in action. The voices are not from the right people. Licensing is very complicated. The license from Stern absolutely would not include Chris's voice of Thor outside what Marvel may hold. Marvels might, but if Chris was needed for new phrasing, It would not only mean buying license, but new contracts. He may not even be allowed to act or dress as Thor outside Marvels direction.

Well, sadly, due to my financial situation, 'Suspended Indefinitely' includes me spending another nickle on a Farsight product, no matter who's pinball table they recreate.  The only reason I put any money towards TPA/Steam on a PC was because of the hopes they would one day deliver on cabinet support.  I 1000% totally appreciate all the effort and support Noah that you've put towards helping/coaxing TPA reach that goal but as I no longer have a cabinet, I no longer need to buy more tables for TPA on Steam since they are just recreations that are not as good as many of the VP9/VP10 tables that are out there.  In my humble opinion, the only thing TPA has over VP9/VP10 is a dynamic camera and that's not really necessary to make playing pinball fun.
