Thanks for the comments. I was out of town for vacation last week so I didn't get anything done. Hoping to make some progress this week. I like the thought of hidden buttons, I may do that. As far as rails go, I am not sure if I will use real pinball rails. Seem really expensive for what they are. I may just try and find some stainless angle and make my own. I have not re-visited my back glass issue in Hyperpin. I should have some time Wednesday. I will try the newest FPLaunch first, cannot remember if I downloaded that or not. That would be great if that was the issue.

Have not got much done this week. I did rough cut my backbox. I have not glued up yet, because I want to cut slots for the glass before I do. I am just going to slot the sides instead of buying the plastic guides. I guess I will need to hinge my top in order to remove the glass if I do it this way.
The only other thing I did was start to work on my backglass DMD mount. I decided to try and just mount to a piece of plywood. I will have a slot in the bottom of the backbox for my DMD monitor to go into cab. I mounted up first and realized I covered up the HDMI slots, so I had to unmount and cut a hole.
This is with the hole.

The other thing I did this week was experiment with pinballx. I can remote into my home computer from work, so I have been spending my lunch hours playing with this. I am very impressed. I think I will ditch Hyperpin afterall. Pinballx is easier, and I like the videos for tables, dmd and backglasses. It took quite a while to set up, but I am pretty happy so far. Have not tried on my 3 screen setup yet, but it works in principle and I have 82 tables set up so far.

Where did you get the other stuff for pinballx? I just have the roms and the tables..... Couldn't find any videos or wheels etc.
All the Hyperpin media packs work with pinballx. I already had most set up. I also signed up for a year at gamex (instructions on pinballx site) which has a ton of downloads for videos. I had most of the wheels and BG images from media packs, but got the dmd videos and table videos from gamex.
I wouldn't bother slotting the sides for you glass if you are not doing the rail plastics. If the cab is 22" wide, just install your L-brackets a 1/4" above the cab sides. Buy glass that is 21 3/4" wide and slide it in from the front of the cab
I was not clear. I did buy the rail plastics for the cab (playfield glass). I was talking about the backbox, I did not buy the plastics for the box, my plan is just to slot the wood and slide the glass in the wood slot for the glass to cover the backglass. Provided my 1/2 in cab will work with the cab plastics I am planning on using them. I have not gotten them yet to get a look at how they work.

I have an odd way of removing the plexi from the backbox..
If you look at the inside top, it is 3/4" plywood, well, the whole thing is. I air nailed that piece in the top like a real machine and when I get the plexiglass, it is 1/10" or 1/8" to keep it simple. I spaced that wood part 1/8" from the monitor and when I put the H channel in place on the DMD top(gotta fill a small gap)it will be 1/2 inch too short which it the thickness of the H channel. While the plexi it in place, you won't notice and if you need to remove it. Just grab the J channel and lift it up 1/2" and pull it out. I think you know what I mean but remember that wood thing is 3/4" so this will work great, in therory. I will let you know...Thats exactly how I got the piece of wood to mount the monitors and speakers but they are mounted to the back door so when I open the backbox, a bundle of wires comes with it. Once I get the flasher panels working, there will be a lot more wiring so I hope it works.

If it ain't broke, it's probably a good idea to take it apart anyway!
I just post here to hear myself type.

PinballX rules. I've been quite pleased with it and I was a total newbie when I first started using it a year ago. I've added support for FP, Pinballfx2, and 3 versions of VP with no issues. Totally seamless. The other thing I did this week was experiment with pinballx. I can remote into my home computer from work, so I have been spending my lunch hours playing with this. Hey noiseprisoner, I sent you a pm, but I will post here in case anyone else knows. I have pinballx set up with all the media for all my tables and it looks great. Also launches tables fine. My issue is my backglass and dmd show on my playfield monitor rather than my BG and DMD monitors (BG top left of screen and DMD top right of screen) this is looking at it the normal way not looking at the table. Seems changing monitor number and coordinates in pinballx settings does nothing to change their location. If I select use directb2s in pinballx, my bg is shown on the correct monitor, but dmd is still in the wrong place. When I launch a table, all is where it should be and the game works fine. Outside of pinballx all is fine. Seems that something is overiding the monitor and coordinates in the pinballx settings. Any idea what that might be? I have been looking at the forums. One thing is I have my BG as monitor 1 in windows, PF as monitor 2 (and main monitor) and dmd as monitor 3. I really just chose this order as it is easier to navigate in windows. But if that may be the problem I could always change. Seems most people have PF (1), BG (2) and DMD (3) in windows. I did not see this in time to test when I was home at lunch.

You should really change screen order in windows to PF (1), BG (2) and DMD (3). And also be careful that the tops of all 3 screens are in same height - I recognized totally crazy performance issues if setup otherwise...no idea why

I'm certainly no expert but I'll share with you what worked for me. Your directb2s screenres file is probably correct since you said that outside of Pinballx, the BG shows on the correct screen.
I attached my Windows display and PinballX display setup screens to show you what is working for me. In Windows, I have PF (2), BG (1), DMD (3). Make sure all of the tops of the screens line up at the top when setting them up in Windows. I hope the screenshots help out a little. You'll notice that in Pinballx setup, my monitor numbers don't match what Windows shows...that may be where some of your confusion is occurring. Maybe try switching those up again in the Pinballx settings?
I haven't tried the new directb2s function in Pinballx yet so I can't really speak to that at all.
Good luck!

Thank you!! Exactly what I needed. I had mine set up almost exactly like that, but my monitors were not all the same height. The number one monitor top was not aligned with the other two. I guess that was the issue because now it works like a champ. Thanks so much for the screen shots. Below is a short video of everything working now.
Now that is working, I just have to go back through the BG images and clear off the grills on certain machines. I can set it to use directb2s for the BG, but the transition is slower than I like. I think I will stick to the images for now.

That's awesome that you got it fixed! Yeah, I had to go through all of mine and do images/videos without the grills too. I'm not sure if you know this but when you're in the game and the backglass looks how you want it, you can press "printscreen" to take a screenshot of it. You might have to click on the backglass first to bring focus to it. Then, just use that screenshot as your backglass image.Thank you!! Exactly what I needed. Hmm, tried photobucket and youtube, can't get the video to embed in the post. Not sure what I am doing.

So, got a little more done. Got the glass grooves cut in my backbox. Then glued, nailed and bracketed the backbox together. I am going to cut a slot in the top so the glass can go through to the slots from the top. I bought a piece of glass at Home Depot, have to cut to fit. I then checked my monitor/DMD assembly to make sure it fit (probably should have done that before I glued and nailed together). Looks like it is going to work out great though. I also cut the grooves in the cab for the side glass guides. I will add this to another reason you should not use 1/2 inch plywood. I will end up having to trim the guides on the outside edge. Structurally though, should not be a problem. I did not center, I moved more to the outside so the glass will still be resting on the same amount of plywood. Pay no attention to the fact that the grooves are filled with sawdust. I used a rototool instead of a slot cutter, so it spun the dust into the groove behind it. I will clean that up later.

I have been busy at work, not much time to work on this. I did get some things done this week though. I cut the wood for the back of my backbox. I bought a panel of window replacement glass at home depot for $10. I think it would be too thin to use for the playfield at 3/32, but I thought for the backglass, why not give it a try. Of course that would mean I had to cut it, which turns out, is pretty easy. First cut went well.
I did not use the side glass rails for the glass in the box, instead I used a rototool to route a groove into the sides. Then I routed a bigger groove in the top of the box for the glass to slide down in. I figure noone will be able to see the top of the backbox, and I may cover with some type of topper at some point. Hard to see in this pic, but this is me test fitting the glass. At this point, it is still too long and sticking out the top. I wanted to get my DMD panel cut before I made the last glass cut to ensure I didn't cut the wrong height.
Here I cut the DMD panel, and put in the H channel to mark the glass with a sharpie.
Last glass cut went well, and now I have a backbox with glass.
I just have to drill my holes for the fans and air intake holes, hole for the lock cam, sand it all up, prime and paint, add the hinge and my backbox will be complete.

Also, I am very excited to get my artwork done. Even though it will be a while before I finish the cab, I have hired Stuzza to design some art. It is partly inspired by the great work of member Knorr, who's had art I really liked. The center focal point is Addams family since it is my favorite game, and then I gave Stuzza a list of characters I wanted on the art. I think it turned out phenomenal. I highly recommend Stuzza if you need some art designed. He was great to work with, and very quick on changes.
I was thinking about potentially doing it in black and white, but I like the color version so much I don't think I can do it.

I cut a few holes. Don't have a 4" hole saw for the 120mm fans I intend to use. I have a circle attachment that hooks on my rototool. Seems to work ok, but when you get to the end of the circle, it is not smooth. Hopefully I can sand it out. If not, I don't think it will be noticible anyway. I will have fan guards on it, it will be black, and it is on the back of the machine anyway.
I just have to cut out my DMD panel, and the backbox will be ready for sanding and painting then assembly.
This will force me to get back to work on the cab.

Did a little more work this morning before work. I put a coat of primer on the backbox. I think I will use my sprayer when I get to the painting stage on the cab. Just the backbox was a PITA. My back is killing me. I should have used some saw horses.
While the primer was drying, I finally did some more work on the cab. I put the legs on. Now it is starting to resemble an actual pinball machine. Drilling the corners was a bit of a pain, but after the first one they got easier.
I also test fit my monitor and monitor bracing system. I am going for a ridiculously simple mount, just a piece of plywood, hooked to the TV in the mounting plate, then I installed some braces on the inside of the cab to hold it. I think it will work fine, and will be easy to remove if needed.
I am debating whether I want to get everything up and running and wired now, or paint it first before I install everything. Painting it first would result in less work I think, so I am leaning towards that. At least painting the inside. For some reason, I really want to get it working faster though. Also, I hate sanding. Not looking forward to that.
