Fireball II has the 'little demon' save post button, the same as Medusa's 'shield of the gods'.

Edit: We can't emulate Pinball 2000 games but anyway: Pinball 2000 has secondary buttons on both sides for selecting the start mode.

I added the two P2K games for the sake of completeness.

Fireball II has the 'little demon' save post button, the same as Medusa's 'shield of the gods'.

Thanks - just added it.

This has been an illuminating exercise.  There are way more of these than I thought - I only turned up about 1/3 of these in my initial searching through old posts.

There is an thread running on Pinside at the moment asking for games with extra buttons. I have no part in it but there are a few games not mentioned here.

https://pinside.com/...flipper-buttons

Bally Nip-It: extra button on right side to activate the gator grabber

-> https://pinside.com/...ns#post-2204339

Bally Speakeasy has a button on the left side. It cancels lit rollovers on top in order to put them in sequence for the chance to win an extra ball (costs 25k points). I know that probably doesn't make sense to anyone who doesn't know the game, but trust me, or maybe someone else can explain it better.

-> https://pinside.com/...ns#post-2204384

Volcano - Button for ball launch direction

Manual kick back button

--> https://pinside.com/...ns#post-2204648

Special Force has the rocket buttons

--> https://pinside.com/...ns#post-2204740

BMX and Hardbody have the extra buttons for the outlane flexsave feature

--> https://pinside.com/...ns#post-2204873

The Rolling Stones LE.

--> https://pinside.com/...ns#post-2205096

Also there is the information that on Revenge from Mars the extra buttons are used to line up the crosshairs on the alien ships in Attack Mars mode.

Can you update Sharkey's? Fren has posted its function above.

You mean the ball lifter, right?

I think I'm inclined to leave ball lifters to the proposed list of all cabinet special features.  There'll be a lot of older tables with these, and I think it'll get too cluttered to add them to this specialized Magna Save button list, even if the VP re-creations use MS buttons for the lifter.

mjr, how will you add a Game, thats not released ?

You mean the VP version isn't released?  I'm still inclined to add it to the list.  Fundamentally what I'm compiling here is a list of original tables with side-of-cabinet extra flipper-type buttons, so the important thing is that it existed as a real table.

I just split the list into "Authentic" and "Virtual" sections.  The Authentic list includes only tables that had true flipper-style side-of-cabinet buttons in the originals.  The Virtual list is for tables where digital re-creations use the Magna Save buttons as stand-ins for some type of unique control that isn't part of the standard virtual cabinet complement.

All of the old tables with manual ball-lifters could arguably go in the Virtual section, although I think it would be better to have a separate list specifically for them.  For one thing, there must be a lot of them, so I'm not too keen on doing the book-keeping.  For another, it's such a specific single feature that it seems better to group them together in their own separate list.

Ok. For virtual I have:

Apollo 13: Special Launch handle which allows left/right selection and launch

Black Rose: Fire button on lock bar

Jurassic Park (Data East): Gun like launcher with additional button

Riverboat Gambler: 4 special buttons on lockbar for roulette game on backbox. Can be put on fipper + magnasave buttons.

Star Wars Data East: Special launcher

Granny and the Gators: Works well with the game's paddle buttons on the flipper buttons and gun on magnasave

Baby Pacman and Caveman: Some people replace the joysticks with flipper buttons for up/down and magnasave for left/right.

Edit: Forgot Austin Powers: Fire button on lock bar

Edit2: maybe LAH should be in the list too - the magnasaves don't get used in the emulation but the smart missile button is an interesting special button

Thanks for the updates - added them to the list at the top of the thread.

Does anyone have confirmation or any more detail one way or the other on the function of the Apollo 13 launch handle?  I tentatively added it to the list per Cheddar's description, but ipdb and the instruction cards say nothing about it.

Someone clearly needs to invent a mechanism with a rotating panel that has a conventional plunger, a launch button, a gun (with a trigger and a thumb button and maybe a couple of extra side buttons just in case), and an up/down shift lever with extra button on the side of the handle, in a kind of Lazy Susan arrangement, that the LedWiz rotates into the appropriate position when you select a table.  That way we wouldn't need all this half-assed Magna Save mapping business!

Uh, go with Joe here. That was me guessing wrong. Should have added an "never played in RL", the skill shot made me think it does something special.

Okay, sounds good.  I actually have played a real Apollo 13, many years ago when it was in circulation, but I don't have any recollection of the special launch handle, let alone whether it did anything besides launch the ball.  All I really remember is the hilarious 13-ball multiball - it was the like the machine barfed up a heavy lunch of pinballs.  The poor flippers sagged under the weight until about half of the balls drained.  Anyway, it's a good bet that the handle is just a launch button, given that there are no special instructions about it on the instruction card or apron or cabinet (as far as I can see in ipdb photos).  I'll keep it in the list even though it doesn't really need MS buttons since I guess it *can* be mapped to MS buttons.

Two more things came up on that pinside thread I linked above.

1) Bone Busters

Bone Busters has the separate button for the lane change flipper

2) Alvin G. Head-to-Head tables.  A.G. Soccer-Ball / A.G. Football / USA Football. They had one pair of flipper buttons on each side.

Not the focus of this thread, but I consider those games pretty interesting :)

Here's a couple other oddball ones that technically fit the bill: Dinosaur Eggs and USA Football (the flipperless version that isn't in the archive here). They both have 4 flipper buttons that are just about as "extra" as you can get. The 4 on Dinosaur Eggs don't do anything at all.... in fact they are immobilized so you can't push them. 2 of the 4 on the flipperless version ofUSA Football are for your initials and for moving the "DOUBLE TICKET" light, the other 2 are immobilized.

Alvin G used up old A.G. Soccer-Ball / A.G. Football / USA Football head-to-head cabinets for these two titles, hence the unused flipper buttons. Just an interesting piece of trivia, so I figured I'd list them.

I can confirm that the handle on Apollo 13 is just a launch button nothing more.
You turn it 90 degrees right and the ball launches.
I have the machine in my collection.

Winner (Williams 1972)

Interesting game but not a beauty. From IPDB: "The Revolving Center Ball Shooter is a turret shooter and sends ball into play from between the lower flippers when the button is pressed on lockdown bar"

NBA Fastbreak: launcher on lockbar
Blackwater 100 -can't believe I missed that one. Secondary buttons l/r - moves flashing selection and lowers start gate
