directx9 installed - not something newer? Does dxdiag show successfully? Any errors or does it just shut down.."stopped working" etc?

Yes to dx9. Windows pop up a message that the program has stopped working.

I found more ideas to fix it and one where to install version 9.9.0 and that helped.

Got switching the .dll to the non cabinet 2.5 Mame fixed everything for me - was getting really frustrated trying to get it all up and running the 1st time tonight!
