From my experimentation, a 1:1 X/Y ratio does indeed represent a equal 16:9 render in VPX. I now just use greater or is that lesser -Z scale values and a y offset to zoom the table view for desktop rendering, whilst keeping Field of View / Inclination equal form 46/46 to 52/52, using the higher values for deeper cabinets/tables with ramps. This usually for the most part works fine on almost all VPX tables without the need to adjust other table lighting elements. Also layback should always still be zero for all desktop renders as by it's very nature a desktop render is a lay backed render, layback is and always should only be used for full screen rendering.

I believe/hope you meant to say Z offset not Z scale, other than that I pretty much concur but for some reason keep finding myself drifting to 42/45  for Inclination/Field of View as my default settings

Oh yes Z offset it is indeed. :)

Wow you all over the board here best to keep x and y close as you can to 1 ratio if you do not like the black spaces on the sides add  some to the y scale. Iike to keep it within 10 percent.

Inclination should be set to what the table is early em 0 middle ss 5 and at most late dmd 12.

I think you are confusing inclination with Layback. Layback and FOV should be adjusted so the bottom of flippers show and the back bumpers are facing a bit backwards and your toys are standing straight.

X and Y and Z scales i leave at 1, always 1

ZScale NEVER TOUCH!

It will break the table, because it physically either compresses the table or pulls it apart, it is not just visual

I use Z offset to bring camera closer to table, better than stretching and distorting the textures with X and Y

stretching X and Y is the same effect as taking a picture and artificially enlarging it, Z offset simply brings the camera closer
Nothing gets stretched or distorted

If a tables dimensions cause black on the sides, so be it.
If i do not like it, then i can throw in a backdrop image, or i can add some side rails, or a cabinet box prim

If it is vertical dead space, i might get creative and make a frame with a flasher at the top of the table that plays
old beer and bowling alley ads etc

Inclination has 0 physics effect on the table

it is visual only so it does not matter what you put for inclination
what ever looks the best for you, and makes a multi leveled table like black knight playable.

Layback is basically offsetting the camera angle, are you behind the flippers, over the top, leaning forward of them etc, for cab mode usually something around 60 works good to start with.
It is only visual, has no physics effect on the table
then fine tune from there.
For desktop mode, something like -9 or 10 might look better

If you feel the need to empty your wallet in my direction, i don't have any way to receive it anyways

Spend it on Hookers and Blow

I'm a desktop user and here are the settings I use for the majority of my tables

desktop.jpg

I just have to adjust YOffset & ZOffset to get a full view of the table

Sometimes I set inclination to 40 if I need to see some elements at the top of the table (for example, hidden by ramps, etc...)

I add siderails and sidecab when missing, and create backdrop images when I find good ressources

I would like to be able to have all the tables configured with the position of camera 2 of TPA.
But the absence of a modifiable angle prevents me from leaving the lower edge of the table near the 2 flippers without losing the opposite upper limit.
