I'm having trouble with step 9 of this:

9. Next, you need to set ShowBackglass.exe to run as administrator (right click on the exe, compatibility, run as administrator). Now, after that, If you run this running and run pinball fx2, it should change images as you select tables.

I have done the rest of the steps and the initial backglass comes up, but I do not have the option to run an exe as admin under properties with XP 32-bit. I thought the fact I'm logged in as an admin might be enough but apparently not. Any idea how I can fix this? At the moment I just get the first Pinball FX2 backglass change and then nothing. When I log back in remotely I get a "The security log on this system is full" error. I think because the program is not running as admin. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Which front-end?

I'm following the guide at the top of this thread but I'm running Hyperpin. I'm using Sir Cheddar's ahk file found here:

I'm running W7 on my cab and have never tested running ShowBackGlass.exe under XP, but if you are logged in as admin under XP you are admin.
XP doesn't have UAC, it was introduced with Vista. The problem lies elsewhere.

Ok guys, I have some updated backglasses for the recent tables up to the new star wars tables.

http://thebigboss.or...glass_pack1.zip

Remember, because new files are added by Zen, you'll need to repeat steps #4 and #5 of the guide in order to get the permissions propagated to the new table files.

I'm having trouble with step 9 of this:

9. Next, you need to set ShowBackglass.exe to run as administrator (right click on the exe, compatibility, run as administrator). Now, after that, If you run this running and run pinball fx2, it should change images as you select tables.

Your issue is that you're not logged in as an administrator account. I am not sure xp even has "run as". You might just need to log in as administrator and upgrade your user account to administrator. Your specific error is discussed here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/867860

You use the windows 8 version? I haven't looked into what to trap for the images on that. The steam version is far superior graphically and has more tables so I've abandoned the windows 8 version entirely here.

Thanks for developing this program. I am using it with mostly success. I'm not sure how to run fplaunch scripts so trying to get it to work with a batch file. Do you know the proper lines for this? It mostly works but cannot get it to detect when fx2 closes. Also, I would rather disable the user security pop up but when I do, it won't load properly.

Incidentally, Now that Pinball Arcade has a Steam version with Portrait mode, could this utility be modified for use with that game? This program would be GREAT for that game since there are already hi res backglass pics created for each of the tables.

I have created a doctor strange backglass for today's Dr Strange release. Drop into your images folder and don't forget to reapply the security auditing permissions on the tables folder via the instructions in my initial post.

Ive setup pinball FX2 with a menu item and theme within HyperSpin - added all the tables to the second menu with graphics and themes.

I've mapped out my X-arcade stick to use Pinball FX2 well - however, I have failed to figure out the specific command line for steam to kick off a specific table.

I've used "Steam.exe -applaunch 226890"

And I have used the IDs for specific tables but no mater what id I put - it loads Pinball FX2 as if I clicked it from the desktop in Windows 8 - then I have to select a table to play.

Does anyone have the AHK script OR command line to launch Pinball FX2 from a Windows 8 command line?

Hi, I'm new on this forum, sorry for my english.

Thanks for your tips to have differents backglass within Pinballfx2 in my pincab.

But i have problem with configuring file audit on my windows XP SP3.

Try lots of configurations without success.

if i'm fallowing your procedure, i cannot have security event viewer entry on file access from pxp files in /data_steam.

I just have log entry on access on the folder /data_steam with Event ID 560.

I'm administrator of windows

It work on another win 7 computer (have READ_CONTROL access with ID 4656 on the .pxp table file).

Maybe need windows update or it's because I use tiny XP version.

If someone have the same issue.

Thanks for your reply.

Great tool, is there any chance of getting a new BMP imageset for all FX2 tables? Would like the Table Logo on the image.

In my cab setup I abandoned HyperPin and PinballX and just play Pinball Arcade and Pinball FX2 with Steam Big Picture as launcher.

Is there a way to detect if you are in Pinball FX2 or Pinball Arcade? If I fire up Pinball Arcade after playing FX2 before, the backglass kepps the last FX2 Table image, until a Pinball Arcade Table is fully loaded. Would be cool, if it could show a generic Pinball Arcade Image, when PA is loading. Same with FX2, after planing PA.

The main EXE of the games seems to be read very often, so it can*t be used with activity log to change to a generic backglass image.

Ideas?

Greetz,

Duglim

I created new backglass images for my 2screen cab setup, because I need them in 1280x1024 resolution.

If anyone is interested in this images, you can see them here in my gallery: http://www.vpforums....llery&album=142

Or simply grab them in one zip file here: http://bit.ly/1j2bDP1 (about 90MB, 39 table backglass images)

Used the existing widescreen images and added table logos and a speaker grill.

Greetings,

Duglim

I have ditched hyperpin for steam big picture as well. I will look into a persistent mode where it can just stay running and show the right images.

Does anybody know if there is a calculation to the height - width measurements to avoid the banding in the DMD?

I wrote a quick little program to help with positioning your DMD. You can download it here: http://pinballbulbs....x2dotmatrix.zip

Simply run this, move the window into position, size the window as you want it, click "refresh" to update the position controls, then hit save. If you need to rerun it again, just use open to locate the file and open it again. By default this opens/saves to the default steam directory. If you store your files elsewhere you'll need to browse to that directory (where pinball fx2.exe is located).  This will create the dotmatrix.cfg file if it does not exist.

Just wanted to say thanks for the util, it really takes any difficulty out of setting up the DMD on the second monitor.  Just move the window, hit refresh, hit save and it even found the proper location to save it in.  Well done BigBoss, thanks!

System:

Windows XP Pro 32-bit

VirtuaPin.net mini-cab setup with 3 monitors

HyperPin wheel launches Pinball FX2

The Security Audit log properly fills with the successful access notifications of the pxp files

Xpadder swaps into arcade key setting like a champ

FPLauncher fires up Showbackglass.exe properly

All the Pinball FX2 tables have their DMD in the right locations

And upon exiting, keys are changed back to default, Showbackglass.exe is killed off and all is well.

However, just as a couple people posted previously, showbackglass.exe refuses to adjust the backglass image to the table accessed.  I'm becomming convinced that either XP simply cannot handle this job, or there's something missing from the FPLaunch commands to play well with XP being a needy little OS.

Thanks so much for the guides and everyone's hard work in here.  I'm really looking forward to additional support for B2S animated backglass options or even Pinball FX2 using the backglass as a potential additional playfield.

Don't mean to revive an old thread, but this was the primary source of information I had to go off of while searching both via google, and other sources.

For those of you wondering how to get this beautiful sucker working with Windows 8.1, due to there being a slight difference in where the information is located in the above step 3 (further steps are less different), here's the steps I was able to take:

  1. After getting to gpedit.msc, Expand the following tree:
Local Computer Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Advanced Audit Policies - Local Group Policy Object -> Object Access
  2. You should see, on the right hand side of the policy editor, a list of "Subcategories". Right click on the one called "Audit File System" and select Properties.
  3. Check on the checkmark for "Configure the following audit events".
  4. Check "Success".

And there you have it! How to enable the logging on Windows 8.1. It's pretty much the same, just slightly different.
