i haven't tried the vishay led displays but as they are a direct replacement for the original display / pinled (which i have both tested) i cant see why it wouldn't work. it will use the same io signals and timings (it must do its a plug and play replacement)

but i cant say 100% sad.gif

my board was developed for the original pinball dmd but works ok on the pin-led, i guess i should get hold of a vishay led dmd as well to see if it works on that
(this project is starting to cost me alot lol)

heres a video of it running 128x16, 128x32 and some 2x16alphanumeric games with my custom conversion code smile.gif

Have come across a Vishay board that is a replacement for the plasma one that is available in Australia.

Can you tell me if this one will work with your board?
Its 5 volt DC powered but I think the pin out is the same as the other models you have been referring to.

Took awhile but I finally got the price to come up for your Vishay board.
$324 just to get an orange LED seems a bit pricy to me.
(Sorry can't get the link to work correctly).
Even the red board seems expensive.

Turns out the DMD I thought I had in my parts box was a 16 segment LED from a Funhouse pinball.
Now I will have to find a DMD as well. (:

The way I look at it, a cheap 19 inch monitor here in Aus is about $130 delivered plus the price of the graphics card needed to drive it, minus the amount of @$%*ing around required to get every tables DMD in the right spot... money well spent. biggrin.gif

we shall get back to you on the vishay led displays smile.gif

pinDMD 100% works and tested with pin-led and original plasma vishay displays smile.gif

Congratulations russdx!! Very good work !! Worship.gif

I ask me if the dmd has an effect on fps ?

I would have wanted to know also all the material(equipment) which it is necessary besides the pcb and dmd so that it works in a cab ?

built the prototype pcb and it works great!!! gonna keep it turned on all day and test it a bit more but it seams to be working just perfect smile.gif

little video of 128x16, 128x32 and 2x16alphanumeric with my custom alphanumeric display code smile.gif

at the moment it will run any dot matrix game apart from 192x164(aless you have that size dmd)
im currently writing the code to support all the alphanumeric games (40% done)

due to some of the very fine pitched / small smd components its a bit of a nightmare to make my self. so if enough people want them i think i will have them assembled for me.

i really need to know how many people actually would like one so i can choose the best and cheapest way to get these assembled smile.gif.

the price will be $75+shipping (i think is quite fair due to the huge amount of time and effort i have put into this project + ordering large quantities of parts is going to cost me alot!)

Dimensions: 1.19inch x 1.09inch
Power: powered from pc usb (no extra power source is required)
Drivers: FTDI drivers MAY need to be installed when the board is first plugged in. (http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm)
Software: a slightly modified version of vpinball.dll needs to be installed. (i will upload)

YOU WILL NEED YOUR OWN DOT MATRIX DISPLAY

you can either use an original vishay plasma display, but will need a pinball transformer to power it
or you can use a pin-led display, just needs 12v
or a vishay led, seams to be a few different types, some use led 8x8 modules like the pin-led or the more expensive ones use separate leds (which iv head is ALOT better)

NOTE - i have not tested this device with any of the vishay led dmds, only real plasma and pinled. the vishay led are direct replacements of each other they should all work fine. i am 95% this is the case but can not guarantee it untill tested!
i am in the process of getting the vishay led displays tested as well!!! will get back to you asap with the results!!

so if you want one please send me a pm and ill see how many people are interested with in a week and get some made up smile.gif

One more thing smile.gif, i am just a hobbyist and this is a little project i thought a few people would like smile.gif but i cant be held liable for any thing that goes wrong when using this device. or if it dies. its just some thing i thought was cool and a few people would want. so must be used at your own risk!!!

Put me in for two.

Great work. I was waiting for someone to come up with this idea and make it work.

All the best.

the display does not skip any frames it runs as smooth as the virtual pinmame display smile.gif

you just need a dmd, my pinDMD board, usb cable and a computer and thats it smile.gif (and a 14pin idc cable for the dmd if you haven't gone one, but ill these in with the board for free!!)

the pinDMD board is powered through the usb cable from your pc thats sending it the frame data smile.gif

things are looking good think i got around 15 orders so far and its only been 2 days since i made this thread smile.gif, hopefully get more once i confirm vishay led displays work as well (99% they are cool but want to make sure as they are expensive and dont want to waste any ones money!!)

be cool to see how many orders i have come friday. ill then decide what size batch to run / how many components i have to buy lol

Can Future Pinball take advantage of this somehow, or is it only possible to interface with VP tables?

Awesome stuff!

erm, hardware wise it can be interfaced to ANY THING, i can write a custom app that lets you send data to the dmd and it will display what ever you want smile.gif

would need to speak to future pinball developers and see if they would want it supported - completely up to them!! smile.gif

the board it self just accepts a stream of frame data bytes. its the software on the pc that does all the interfacing smile.gif and thats the easy part to edit / expand smile.gif

Anyone know of a source for the pinLED boards in the states.
Or must they be ordered from Germany or the UK only?

Really glad to see this project has come to life, great work that man! good.gif I'm interested but just have a couple of quick questions....

I know there are not many of them, but is the board compatible at all with the 192x64 games? Will it just run them with less LED points?

Also what would happen if you tried a table which would have the separate segmented display such as Gorgar or Star Trek?

My best bet would be to buy a new Vishay LED so I'll be waiting for maxxsinner's feedback. Are you in the UK Russ, do you know of a Vishay supplier in the UK?

Thanks again smile.gif

Edit: also have you tried running this in combo with UVP using only one gfx card? I wonder if this would help with performance...

currently does not support 192x64 games, but this is purely because i have not written any conversion code for it YET
im currently working on the virtual alphanumeric conversion code so it displays all segments on the dmd as virtual segments

yeah im from the uk, i think mouser is my best option for vishay displays, any thing i order from the usa i am gonna get stung with the 20% uk VAT import sad.gif
