Hate to say it but checking the difference in the sound between the versions, it's about the same as the VPM 2.4. It is better now since VPM 2.4, but is still short.

Something I was wondering about though. When David Foley/Ultrapin licensed the rights to use Williams/Bally ROMs and allow non-commercial use by the community, doesn't that license include the right to use the game-specific Bally SaT decoding Lookup Tables? The SaT decoding lookup tables are ROMs, aren't they? The story goes that each Bally SaT/Say It Again uses a custom set of encoding and decoding lookup tables. The decoding lookup tables are necessary for proper SaT playback.

I was wondering if these decoding lookup table ROMs are licensed exclusively to someone else outside of Global VR who is manufacturing the SaT replacement boards which would explain why these decoding lookup tables ROMs are not included in the Williams/Bally/Mr. Pinball/Planetary Pinball ROM downloads or available through the Ultrapin license.
As far as I know, not even Globall VR has them. Their version of Bally Fathom is dependent on VPinMame for SaT.

I have no idea. And I doubt very much that David Foley ever licensed any the williams/bally roms for use by vpforums - Rick of Planetary Pinball said he didn't care what we did with the roms as long as we don't sell them - or offer the modified non-ghosting LED roms.
Ultrapin licensed 12 romsets for use/sale with Ultrapin - which isn't related at all to this forum.

Something's not right.
The TMS5200NL VSP chip with the alleged game-specific internal custom LPC lookup tables is being sold to replace any Bally SaT TMS5200 chip, so either the story of custom game-specific SaT LPC lookup tables is fiction (Bally using the standard 5200 tables), or the pin repair sites are not telling the truth when selling the replacement IC or they are depending on external lookup tables which are included in the public-available ROM sets, or the lookup tables being used in Mame are somehow incorrect for Bally, but here we go again around and around.

Or the emulation is missing the 16 level VCA output. Not sure if the VCA has that much effect on the voice, but it might, especially if the VCA control voltage envelope is taken after the low pass filter is applied to the analog pre-output signal or if the envelope voltage is provided from digital data.

Does anyone know for sure that the public Bally ROM downloads do not contain the lookup tables (in HEX) in one of the files? Is all of the EBD sound files data being used by the emulation?
