If anyone really cares... eh, I'll document it anyways.

I think I found my cheap solution. After browsing around the net I purchased a refurbished Dell Optiplex Pentium 4 at 2.8 ghz & 1 gig ram for the low price of $114.99 + $4.99 shipping. It's comes ready to rock, all parts included. I should even be able to play some VPM tables on it. I ordered the controller along with it, so I can start building very shortly. I'll start a new thread on the actual cabinet construction. I think this thread is done now.

Anyone need an old-ass celeron?

SHOULD be able to play VPM tables? I'd say VPM is almost a given on that rig, requirements are lower than expected. You want a lock or something? Just send a PM my way and I'll get on it.

I just wanted to comment, back in 1999 I played mame on an AMD K6-2 CPU running @ 233 MHz, I think it had 32 MB RAM and a ATI 3D RAGE II GPU, played many 2D games fine (like bubble bobble and the like).

Yeah, in the end, I still think my Pentium II does just as good as this celeron. I even added memory from another computer in the celeron and tried linux mame. Some of the older games did OK, but just not the entire collection of games I intend playing. But it seems every pentium IV I try plays all my games beautifully. The new computer shipped late last week, so I should get it sometime this week, and the joystick, and I'll be building next saturday if all goes to plan. dblthumb.gif
