I tried the 354 revision sometimes it opens right away Otherwise it takes about 6 seconds to open
so I went back and tried some older versions and they were doing the same thing
I probably was just not waiting long enough but I don't understand why sometimes it opens right away and sometimes it don't

That is strange. It opens lickity split for me every time. So baffling! Is it a windows problem maybe?

My system is i7-6700 CPU 3.41 GHz, 16GB ram

Windows 10 Home 21H2

Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB

Avast antivirus (no defender)

OS running from a 500GB SSD but all VP and other emulation running on a 2TB hard drive

Hello, just a few words here, to thank's the development team !

I finally go from 10.7 to 10.7.2 and for me it's working fine ! (VPinballX-10.7.2-277-3054)
The few tables not working with 10.7 works now perfectly !

No problem noticed with my configuration (10400F and GTX 1070)

Thank you again, your work is amazing !

:otvclap:

Hi guys! Coming back from some days off, i see that a looooot happened in here.  :)

First of all thanks a lot for all the testing, this will help vbousquet to finish up the VPVR<->VPX unification efforts a lot!

We need all your elaborate testing to spot all the new regressions, as simply way too many tables and configurations are out there for us to be able to test them all.

I will also try to do a new RC 10.7.2 build soon, which will both (hopefully) workaround the startup problem and which will also NOT include all the new VPVR sync work (as its too risky at the moment, given all the necessary vast changes).

So here hopefully the to-be-10.7.2-final release: https://github.com/v...es/tag/10.7.2RC

Let me know how it goes, it should hopefully work on all setups struggling with the startup issue, BUT does not include all the latest changes to the rendering pipeline (vbousquets VPVR merger).

(so its roughly the same as 289 ( https://github.com/v...runs/3116927980 ) , but build the same way as Thalamus did for the startup-hang testing, plus some more recent fixes)

IF there is any issues with toxie's build : I'll provide you with a second link, it is just a drop-in replacement for VPinballX.exe ONLY. Let's hope the above works for everyone, but, well, since I've compiled it anyway, it is maybe still usable for some : https://www.dropbox....nballX.exe?dl=1 (this is built from master)

Again, it should NOT be needed !

Uh. my build IS different, it has more of the fixes from vpvr. I did checkout master instead of the 10.7.2RC. Still though, only a few needs this and it is just more stuff and fixes in it. Or, breakage ;)

I'll provide you with a new build that is exact.

https://www.dropbox....nballX.exe?dl=1 (this is from 10.7.2RC )

This one should now be 100% the same as Toxie's 10.7.2RC build.

MOST people won't need any of these !! It is just an alternative if you get hanging processes, and we don't know yet WHY this happens.

TRY TOXIES LAST BUILD FIRST, THIS IS LAST RESORT, IF YOU SEE BELOW AND ABOVE, THE NEW BUILD HAS BEEN DONE ONCE MORE AND WE ALL PREFER THAT THE OFFICIAL IS TESTED. I LEAVE THESE HERE STILL, ONLY IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING ISSUES. SO, IF YOU DO, PLEASE LET US KNOW THAT YOU NEED MY BUILD OR NOT !

Everybody, please hold your horses for a moment.

Seems like my build still has the same startup issue (for reasons nobody understands so far :/ ) and Thalamus' build is from the wrong branch.

(edit: i fixed the github package with Thalamus build)

Ok so I grabbed 10.7.2RC (rev0) and its mostly ok after testing a half dozen games of all types. It never crashed. I just exit the game, close in editor opened another, lather, rinse, repeat. Then I tried gb-le 1.2 and lord have mercy it took a long time to load and eventually gave me a rom not found and crashed closed. I figured ok, too many games ran in a single session. Open task manager, found 2 video apps running (pup), end task. VPX wasn't running in background so all clean- try again from scratch and this time it worked and exited properly including pups.

I also grabbed rev 363 and honestly it "feels" better, faster and more robust than RC0 and had no problems with gble. Much more testing to do, however. Thanks guys!

The difference between my builds and github, is that github - at least, used to be setup to run the latest compiler Microsoft provides. That is VC2022. I'm not sure what they did for the last build. They know in details what I'm running and how I'm setting up the compiler on my end. It is 2019 with some older libraries. So, I expect that when toxie says it is the same, they have changed something to become closer to my compiler setup. I'm yet to try the latest github, but, the first build of 10.7.2RC, did still give me those hangs. I told them this and since then, the NEW 10.7.2RC build has been made. I don't know all the details. Just use theirs, first and foremost. ONLY revert to mine IF you have issues. AND, let us know IF for some ODD reason you need mine please.

Basically the github linked pre-release IS your build.  :)

For the others in the thread: The issue: At some point in time the mysterious startup hang on certain setups was introduced.

Doing a search over revisions, the problematic revision/build found actually can not cause this hang.

So there must have been some other, unrelated to VPX itself, reason.

Fast forward: Thalamus found that his build works (i.e. no hang), while the github builds do not.

Turns out its related to still using an older compiler version (VS 2017 with additional XP support) while github can only use VS2019 or VS2022.

Now the part that is in addition still confusing: If i use the same setup to compile, then one still gets the hang.

So a) there must be something special with Thalamus compilation setup, at least compared to mine.

and/or b) there is something like a glitch in some of the code, and by accident it gets suppressed by Thalamus slightly different setup.

So for now i simply packaged Thalamus compiled exe into the github prerelease package.

Any additional feedback so far? For example Thalamus build (=the github 10.7.2RC package) crashes for me when loading scottacus' Pirate Gold (dloadable on the other forum).

Checked the 10.7.2-363 release x86 today - still can't open it on my vpin

Thalamus special revision opens 100% of the time.

I have not found any negative feedback yet

Pirate Gold works for me in rev 363
Physics are wonky, but it isnt using vpx's physics so

For now its only about testing https://github.com/v...es/tag/10.7.2RC

The 'normal' development builds for now(!) remain with that issue.  :/

I'm testing 10.7.2Rc and it seems to work very well om my laptop, since I'm not home just now. It has an Intel® Core™ i7-1065G7 CPU @ 1.30GHz, and an Intel iIris Plus GPU. It is not the fastest laptop I have seen, but good enough to do some editing and playing when I'm not home :)  I'm running Windows 10 Pro on this laptop. No problems for now.
