I upgraded to the latest 1.0.0 version. I tried the previous version and it worked nicely with the various recommended script changes. With this new version I am finding that the VirtualDMD window which dispalys UltraDMD/FlexDMD no longer closes on table close. Is there a new option in an ini somewhere?

Apart from that it seems to work nicely (although Champion League 2018 "sometimes" crashes when selecting a team, but its not related to FlexDMD as thats why I converted to Flex in the first place to try and resolve this issue.. which sadly it didn't)

I notice that too at times, though i do not know if it is a fault of flexDMD or VP 10.7 beta

I am still on 10.6 (VP VR). This only started happening with the 1.0.0 release of FlexDMD and only effects UltraDMD tables (normal VirtualDMD pinmame close fine).

The 1st picture is Champions League (Season 18) TT&NZ v1.0  UltraDMD table being controlled by an UltraDMD
You can see the 0 Zero is white and the credits and ball are Red, Plus the image on the right side is more clear

Attached File  Untitled-1.jpg   112.73KB   3 downloads

The 2nd picture is the same UltraDMD game being controlled by FlexDMD
You can see everything is Red and It would also appear that it's using a different font than UltraDMD
-
And The version converted to FlexDMD and being controlled by FlexDMD is working the same way
-
Is there a way to have the FlexDMD presented itself in the same manner as the UltraDMD

Ironically enough, although my Champions League 2018 crashes most of the time after selecting Team, when it does finally work, the FlexDMD renders perfectly with my default text color of Powder blue. Would post an image but couldn't for the life of me find the "attach image from local drive" option.

Edit: I finally tracked down the cause of my 'intermittent but very regular' crash on "Champions League 2018" table after selecting Team. It didn't like spaces in the Music Filenames. I swapped all spaces for underscores in Music folder and script and it never fails now. Oddly enough, it worked sometimes despite all music tracks having at least one space in them. I had a crashing issue with the Iron Maiden table too, so I suspect this is probably the exact same thing.. Happy days!!

Thanks to Thalamus.. here's the FlexDMD image

To add screenshot - you can always use VPF Image Host - just look at the top menu of this site. Basically, you upload the image via that and generate html code that you paste into your post.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

@Outhere, there are 3 things here ;

  • the image is more clear on the right due to your Freezy's dmd setup ; afaik UltraDMD renders dots as squares, where Freezy's DMD renders them as dots (you have a few option in dmddevice.ini for the dot size). This is what make the difference and it is the intended behavior (same render for PinMame or Original tables).
  • the text at the bottom is in the color you chose ; that is ok.
  • the text for the score is rendered using UltraDMD's DisplayScoreboard00 which is an undocumented function Stephen add to UltraDMD before abandonning work on it (as it seems). I will have a look to have a better matching behavior. If someone has some information on this function, that would help.

On a side note, since the 1.0 release, for UltraDMD, I strongly advise to use tables with their original scripts and untouched UltraDMD_option.vbs from VPX: the latest release should have closed the gap to a full replacement (beside the DisplayScoreBoard00). For tables like Champions League, it allows to use the UI developped by the table authors for color choosing.

Regards

Thanks you once again Vincent ! Happy to see that you are doing your best at getting FlexDMD to be a complete replacement ! :otvclap:

That's part of what I'm liking about FlexDMD; while you can GET UltraDMD to render through Freezy with round dots, my experience is that it was incredibly fiddly to get it to do so, and our first pincab computer I couldn't get it to work at all (in spite of it working on the desktop that's now the pincab computer), while with FlexDMD it just simply is without any fighting whatsoever. This has done wonders for making the DMD presentation on the cabinet absolutely consistent between VPX Originals, VPX using VPinMAME, and FX3.

No doubt having FlexDMD control UltraDMD 100% with the ease of Freezy is a nice accomplishment on your part and thank you for your continuous support

Hi,

I did no longer belive that it´s possible, but I solved my problem.

It really easy.

I got a pin(2)dmd. With freezy 1.80 everything worked exept CL 18.

Now I took dmddevice.dll from lucky.

In combination with flexdmd everything runs smooth and coloured.

Thank to all of you and Lucky.

If you mean the F6 menu in (Champions League) when you say UI developped it does that work when Controlling the game with a FlexDMD

Can you adjust the dot size in flexDMD
changing it in dmddevice.ini did not seem to effect it, but maybe that is only for ultraDMD?

If I change the global size it changes all games
For individual doesn't affect any game

Hmm i was trying that in dmddevice.ini, no results

[virtualdmd]
dotsize = 0.5

but maybe, since there are 2 dmddevice.ini's i have to do it in the one in the xdmd folder, rather than the one in the pinmame folder?
I will try setting it in both

Nevermind was my mistake, got two [virtualdmd] sections by accident

Best way to set up flexDMD,  Have the flexDMD Files in your VPinMame folder

That is where i have them
the dmddevice files, it was recommended to copy to the xdmd folder

What video format is flexDMD or ultraDMD most adept at using?

I tried mp4, but it did not seem to like those at all, blank DMD
wmv does play, but it does not seem to like them terribly, if you exit the table and relaunch it a few times
it decides to not unload and you have to kill VP entirely.

It is cool if you just leave the table running, and it is cool if you exit VPX after you return to the editor and restart it.

so rather than run through every possible codec/container bitrate etc, figure i will just ask

EDIT:
I am going to need to poke at this a bit more
It may only be an issue in the VP 10.7 beta
But i will still be happy to take advice on best vid format to use, i would like to use what ever is most efficient for it

You do not need any of the Freezy files in your XDMD folder if your using a LCD
And if you use flexDMD with a real DMD no need to have freezy files in the XDMD/ultraDMD folder

I have not played with 10.7 very much
May only work with .gif

Regarding the installation : everything in the same folder, which should be your VPinMame.

Regarding the video format, all the one supported by Windows Media Foundation (wmv, avi, mp4,...) + Gif are supported by FlexDMD. Note that wmv, mp4, avi are the container format. Then you have the codec format for audio and video (H264,...). To choose the most compatible, solution, I would use GIF like most original table authors do; this format is largely sufficient for something small like a DMD ; it is what Champion's league use and it has complex videos. If you really need another format, then you are likely doing something more complex and would benefit from a pinup solutionwhich is fully designed around playing videos, instead of a Ultra/FlexDMD.
