Can you see a new comport device in Device Manager? If so can you right click and update driver? Or can you right click on the ini file and click install. Another idea is (top of device manager) install legacy device.

Think ill will do some research into getting a proper signed usb driver so we dont have all these issues (plus be cool for windows to auto download a pinDMD3 driver hehe)

Thanks for the quick support.  i just did a user install of a driver by updating the driver in Device Manager, I didn't see the new COM port since I thought I was going to see an exclamation point, but everything looked fine in device manager.  Sorry don't remember what it was called but I know it was COM8.  Forced it to load and pointed it to your driver inf, after accepting an unsigned driver warning, everything worked great.  Well I haven't tried AMH yet with UltraDMD & stuff.  Thanks for your great stuff Russ.

time to sell some Vishay DMD's I guess :)

No worries glad you got it sorted.

Deffo gonna look into the whole signed driver thing is a bit scary but would be worth it. Be nice to just have (just plug it in) in the install guide and have windows just download and install for you :) will look at pricing etc

Is anyone offering a updated Vpinmame.dll that works with pindmd3 and supports newer stern games?

beautiful dmd, works perfect on setup from www.pindmd.com site just missing some newer game support

How do I use a ppm logo file?  I can't seem to find how to "flash" it to the PinDMD3.   Love this thing already, but having trouble with SetDMD 1.05 changing my VPinMAME to Colorize its roms by default.  I have to go in and test with setup just to check that box.

Anyone have any ppm files to share and how to use them.  (waiting to PinballX to support this also).    This hobby just gets better and better.  thanks

If someone can tell me what registry setting changes when you check colorize in Setup, that would be all I need as I could do a search/replace in registry as SetDMD adds all roms to registry)

The SAM version of pinMAME out there right now is unauthorized.

We're working on an official SAM release (authorized by the pinMAME team and done properly), and its release should be on the horizon.

I'll check and update you further.

Thank you.

Regarding xdmd

the pinDMD stuff does not seem to be in the latest release (that I can find)

If you replace these files in your xdmd install folder

http://www.pindmd.co...nloads-v3/xdmd/

and add this file

http://www.pindmd.co...tion/pinDMD.dll

xpinball / xdmd should now be pinDMD3 enabled. (16 shades only at the moment)

I will look into UltraDMD shortly (have never used before)

Let me know how that goes

Russ,

Thanks for the tip and the files. I getting closer now. As soon as I added your updated files to my XDMD folder, UtraDMD started working and the XDMDdemo.exe lit up the PinDMD3 correctly.

No change with PinballX though. I still get no display on the PinDMD3. I noticed that the PinballX install folder also has an older version of the XDMD.dll and XDMDNative.dll so I copied your updated files into this folder and then PinballX fails to start. See the error log below.

The PinDMD.log reads as though everything was fine

locating device:         PASS (COM5)

firmware authentication: PASS

I put the older dll's back in and PinballX starts again with no display on the DMD and no PinDMD log is created. Not sure where to go from here. Any ideas?

Thanks

AL

Regarding .ppm files place a .ppm file named pinDMD_logo.ppm in your Tables folder, this is where the pinDMD.dll looks for it. If it finds one it will display it when a table is closed.

Regarding pinballx

as far as i was aware pinballx does not handle any low level dmd stuff it self xdmd does all this so if it works in xdmd one place it should work every where? (my understanding) the log says "PinDMD2 Intialized" should that not be pinDMD3? I am not sure if maybe some pinballx .dlls need updating as well? (shouldn't do though?)

Strange thing is the pinDMD.dll did actually boot up and initialize ok as you can see from the log. But pinballx is not happy for some reason looks like it cant find the pinDMD initialize function? But it was called? Im confused LOL. These are all guesses at the moment though hehe.

Could you zip up your whole pinballx install with all the xdmd stuff for me (put on drop box or email or something) so i can have a play. I will also have a talk with tom(pinballx/xdmd) author and resolve the problem for you. Most likely just missing another .dll or one is still out of date :)

Russell Pirie

Rocketman did the Bass.dll sort your install problem? (i have reworded the installation document to mention this .dll)

Russ,

Sorry for the late reply.  Unfortunately, shortly after posting, I tore the PC apart to start mocking things up for the cabinet build (as the rest of my stuff from VP showed up with the PinDMD3).  So, it looks like I'm done with testing until I get the cabinet put together.  I'll try adding the Bass.dll to the folder next chance I get, and see if that resolves my issue.  Thanks again.

Regarding ppm, thanks it works by placing logo file in tables folder.  Anyway to just display the logo file with some sort of quick init program.  I would like to init on startup and still not run anything else since I mostly work on adding/modding tables on my cab and love to see my "Welcome" logo when I start out.   Can't wait to see where this product goes, just up and up.

Russ I hope you don't hate the video I posted as it was just a quick and dirty example to show people.

Yeah the start up messages / videos / anims I hope to leave that job to xdmd/ultraDMD when they can support full colour. For now though I can make a very simple app that you can run from a start up script or something that would just read in a .ppm file and send it to the pinDMD3.

Video was fine :) more the better :)

Ah nice.

I forgot to mention Glediator is supported as well.

http://www.solderlab...tware/glediator

Bit of a pain to setup but some very nice effects on it. (nothing to do with pinball lol)

I have attached an image of the settings I use.

Will also need to hunt down this file mfz-rxtx-2.2-20081207-win-x64.zip (glediator serial coms)

and put the RXTXcomm.jar in your /lib folder
