when i have free time i write a few tools so people can play with the display without even needing pinmame so it can display images / animations smile.gif

for any coders out there. the display just shows up as a virtual com port and all you need to do is stream it frame data and it will display it!!! so any one can write apps for it smile.gif

if any one is interested, give me a shout n ill write a little app note doc explaining how to construct a simple frame to send to it smile.gif

I am interested!

hope that shout wasn't too loud smile.gif

haha - ill write somin up later tonight The Loafer smile.gif

i noticed the other day that php has com port library's haha, if your cab is connected to the net, you could remotely send it frame data / commands and have the dmd display them lol

totally useless but cool!!! smile.gif

So theoretically, we can use this to display scaled down large DMDs, right? wink.gif Did you try it Russ, and it just looked too bad, or did you not bother?

Just curious, what algorithm did you use to do the scaling? It also is possible, if your board doesn't have enough power, to prescale it in the cabinet.dll.

all image manipulation gets done pinmame side smile.gif, the pinDMD just receives simple 128x32 frame data and continuously refreshes it on the dmd display smile.gif

best result i found was to simply just draw every other row so cutting it down from 64px height to 32px high, then just center it, so you do lose a bit of the image left / right.

seamed to get the best result smile.gif (still looks cack lol)

Are you integrating your code as a new branch or version on sourceforge?

Cool. I wonder if perl has a com port interface, I'm sure it has. I do a bit of perl coding so it might be fun to play with. What would be really nice is if there was some way to make FP put something on the DMD. I've had a look at some of the VBS and it looks like calling external programs should be doable. Problem is you'd likely have to re-animate your own DMD's per table to make it of any use?

If you could get your mods patched into the upstream code then the unity3D stuff would be able to write directly to it via pinmame as well which would be cool smile.gif

Those tables that don't currently use a pinmame rom could also use a library for people to animate new DMD info for existing or new FP tables?

Loving the options this board provides!

Wonder if there's any chance of convincing the Farsight guys to expose the DMD animations so we could have real DMD use in Pinball Arcade as well?

It's killing me that I haven't even started my cabinet yet.....

Cheers,

Arkay.

P.S. My DMD just arrived in the mail!!! Looks sweet biggrin.gif Can't wait for batch 2 now.

Vishay DMD arrived today!! biggrin.gif

After looking at it, how are some of you planning on mounting it? I have to make a new front panel for it and I'm unsure if the hole should only be as big as the "dots" or extend to the area around the dots that has the ledge so that it "fits" inside. Thoughts?

Another dumb question. Anyone know the part # for the ribbon cable that will be needed?

russdx,

I was thinking about a solution for Future Pinball... If the backglass/DMD is on the second monitor which is setup for 'windowed' mode, could a program that offers live smooth streaming, like Expression Encoder 4 Pro (pre-configured to capture just the the DMD area) pass along this stream of FP DMD graphics to the frame buffer on your board.... then onto the real DMD?

Thanks in advance.

hmm it could i guess, but would be a very nasty way of doing it hehe, best way would be to integrate the drivers into future pinball / have the dmd frame data exposed in some way smile.gif
