@darlimj which VPX version is included in the baller installer? (you can check under Help->About)
10.7.0 ![]()

Hi G,
Well, having wiped Windows 10, reinstalled baller, and tested multiple tables 4 times in the last 2 days, I think I had the wrong VPX exe, older VPinMame (or updated incorrectly), and probably brought over some ini or dll files from by backup that I shouldn't have. Also may have neglected to unblock a download install package.
Not sure. But soon I'll be back on the cab to see if my latest attempt stuck.
Cheers!

Well crap.
Same behavior.
It launched about 6-8 tables nicely from popper then she got hung up and crashed to the desktop.
Then when trying to launch tables from VPX, I had to double click twice to get the UI to appear.
I think I'm cursed.
But I can play tables through VPX and not popper.
Just have to keep using task manager to end multiple VPX exes running in the bg.
Sigh.
Hoping there is a solution found by someone who knows what they're doing, unlike me apparently.
Cheers.

So even if you just run VPX by itself, no front end involved
VPX fails to exit when closing it to launch another table?
does this happen on plain tables? no PUP no FlexDMD ?
Any difference between ROM and EM tables?
If you feel the need to empty your wallet in my direction, i don't have any way to receive it anyways

I have some short videos.
No front end.
Sometimes I have to double click 2 or 3 times before I see the VPX UI.
Then I see it running multiple times in task manager.
Does that make sense?
Regardless, I can play everything I think. EMs, VPW, PUPs, etc.
Just a slight inconvenience when popper hangs so I've been playing tables through VPX for now.
I can wait for the next big update and hope this goes away.

Hmm
Have you tried dropping the latest build from github in?
I do not know if that causes any issues to PinUP itself
To VPX in and of itself it does not, you just unzip it over top of an existing vpx install
But i dont really know much of the Baller Installer, nailbuster told me once never do that cause it will bust pinup or something like that
i dont know myself as i dont use pinup
It should not need this, but maybe try puting vpx.exe into windows 7 compatibility mode?
just to see if it makes a difference, it wont hurt even if it does not help.
I doubt this is it but you could try installing these two things
Visual C++ Redistributable Runtimes All-in-One (Jul 2022) Download | TechPowerUp
Download DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010) from Official Microsoft Download Center

I'm betting this is exactly it weisshund. at least from the symptoms darlim describes. Even with that the newest vpx betas still seem to have issues not wanting to start after a few tables are opened and closed and only fixed by closing vpx completely. The runtimes are critical for windows and should be a first check for updates.

The essential issue is just that. Newer builds, you can "try" to start vp; it just ends up creating a process. I'm not technical enough to know why. But, from experience; if there is any vp process running already shit starts raining on you. I haven't used VP fhat much on this new computer, mostly been firing up blender and fiddling about, and, I've been able to get several vpinball.exe running in task manager without really noticing - probably closing, not knowing that they where still lurking or believing I missed a double click to start.
I really don't care if it fucks up pinup shit. Not my deal. I play pinball - not videos. Been on 215 for quite a while on the cab, and from the github report from DarlimJ it seems to me that he already has given that a thumbs down; while I've had a whole tournament without any issues on the cab with Win7. HOLY shit - I love to give you all the finger on this ... I really hate Win10 and beyond.
From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Thalamus, do you have pinup on your system?
Im just trying to see if there is a catalyst, something that VPX may not be playing nice with or something
If you have the issue, but dont have pinup at all, then we obviously
have to look for some other software disagreement going on.
I wonder if anyone having this issue could try one of the debug builds, to see if it logs anything useful?
OS wise, i cant really point a finger at the OS, as i have quite a number of machines running Windows 10 and Windows 11
with no special configurations at all, but i can not replicate.
But keep in mind, they really dont have anything much on them besides VPX, and MS Office and VC++ runtimes
no front end, no DOF Framework, no PUP player etc
Not quite sure what the common thread is, or what other tidbit to throw into the pot
to make the issue happen

I have pup on the cab for a very few well done games - yes. TNA pr. example.
On my new comp - minimal vpx installed. NOT all the c++ runtimes - which I admit, is a valid suggestion. ( I was suprised ages ago, that I could inform freezy of a requirement - so, there might be gremlins there too )
On the new comp, with updates from github - It's a editing computer - first and foremost I want the very latest, always, since there is awsome stuff coming from other contrbs than our regular top guys (thanks a lot once again fuzzle/toxie ) - cough ... Vincent ! . Cab - has been a while on 215. And I've played a lot of games on that rel. - admit, NOT sober, but, not see any of the reported issues either. I WOULD know, even being drunk out of my mind if this was to happen on the cab.
My new comp is very clean, just os, vp - with "github" release ... in that I mean, I know how to run several versions and test everyone, but, I haven't really done it yet. Spent the money mostly because I wanted to export a table, import it and then fiddle about. It was already pre-installed with Win10 crap, and "latest" GPU drivers. Seems the guys I bought it from didn't add anything extra fucking anti-virus - buy me or die ... on it so I havent' bothered to make a real-clrean install yet.
Seen exactly what was reported though. Sometime, being "surprised", that nothing happens, and then I find a old VPinball.exe in the process list, kill it -I'm not 100% sure here, as VP hasn't been my main focus, but, I believe I've seen a could of old vpiball.exe running in the process list, (more than one), before I've taken up the process-list - killing them.
I can't remeber not having success, after this "kill", but, I just can't swear on it, it, might have. I've just seen it happen, and I haven't kept accurate notes. I probably should now, but, heaaaaay - as a win7 cab used, I don't fucking care - do I ? ![]()
Happy not to upgrade to that fucking spyware OS on my important install ![]()

A question for everyone that has seen this "GUI not visible" issue.
Are any of you running VirtuaPin Controller software? (I know that Darlimj is as he recently got a plunger).
Does this software stay resident or does it only startup each time VPX is loaded?
Wondering if this may be the common link to the problem?

I edit television on my rig here when not playing (Adobe Suite).
It seems an older VPX exe might have resolved the issue!
Was looking for VPX beta 112 but couldn't find it so went with:
VPinballX-10.7.1-207-d4b8595-Release-win-x86
I went 10 for 10 good launches this morning through VPX of tables that were stalling out yesterday.
About to test some more.

I do not have one, but i thought the software was just for configuring it?
I thought once set up, it just sat there like any other game controller?
I wonder of anyone seeing this issue would be willing to pull down and run one of the debug builds to see if it will catch what is going on in a log?
Whatever makes it happen, i dont have it.
I tried to replicate it, i gave up after 200 or so sequential launches

Yeah I don't have the virtuapin controller software either so cant test. I am a bit sus on the software being related to the issue though given that Darlimj seems to have started experiencing the issue around the same time as he got the controller board as far as I'm aware.

Thanks!!

Hi team,
Great work you have done, simply amazing.
I have a 3080 graphics card with HP REVERB G2... incredible experiences.
Question: I am using VPINBALLX_GL v10.7.1 Beta (Revision 121 1804158 32bit).
After running the same table 4 or 5 times (using f5) it crashes. There may be a memory leak or something left hanging...
Restart vpinballx_gl and all is good again.
-> Am I on the latest version? Can't seem to find vpinballx_gl in github.
Thank you so much.

VPVR/GL releases are here: https://github.com/v...l/vpvr/releases
https://github.com/v...ase-win-x86.zip is the latest build
Unfortunately, in VPVR there are still some mem leaks, like you also found. Its much better than older versions, but still work left to do.
