maxxsinner have u noticed any performance issues with the board / pinmame.dll?

Slight drop in frames but I think (as H4CK3R said on HP) it has more to do with the .dll file.
Once we are using destruk's version it should pick up.

built the prototype pcb and it works great!!! gonna keep it turned on all day and test it a bit more but it seams to be working just perfect smile.gif

special thanks to H4CK3R for taking this video

little video of 128x16, 128x32 and 2x16alphanumeric with my custom alphanumeric display code smile.gif

at the moment it will run any dot matrix game apart from 192x164(aless you have that size dmd)
im currently writing the code to support all the alphanumeric games (40% done)

due to some of the very fine pitched / small smd components its a bit of a nightmare to make my self. so if enough people want them i think i will have them assembled for me.

i really need to know how many people actually would like one so i can choose the best and cheapest way to get these assembled smile.gif.

the price will be $80+shipping (i think is quite fair due to the huge amount of time and effort i have put into this project + ordering large quantities of parts is going to cost me alot!)

Dimensions: 1.19inch x 1.09inch
Power: powered from pc usb (no extra power source is required)
Drivers: FTDI drivers MAY need to be installed when the board is first plugged in. (http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm)
Software: a slightly modified version of vpinball.dll needs to be installed. (i will upload)

YOU WILL NEED YOUR OWN DOT MATRIX DISPLAY

you can either use an original vishay plasma display, but will need a pinball transformer to power it
or you can use a pin-led display, just needs 12v
or a vishay led, seams to be a few different types, some use led 8x8 modules like the pin-led or the more expensive ones use separate leds (which iv head is ALOT better)

NOTE - i have not tested this device with any of the vishay led dmds, only real plasma and pinled. the vishay led are direct replacements of each other they should all work fine. i am 95% this is the case but can not guarantee it untill tested!
i am in the process of getting the vishay led displays tested as well!!! will get back to you asap with the results!!

so if you want one please send me a pm and ill see how many people are interested with in a week and get some made up smile.gif

One more thing smile.gif, i am just a hobbyist and this is a little project i thought a few people would like smile.gif but i cant be held liable for any thing that goes wrong when using this device. or if it dies. its just some thing i thought was cool and a few people would want. so must be used at your own risk!!!

Ok so I just ordered one of the orange 5v's. Can't wait..except, I have work to do now. I will have to recreate my backbox area for the LED as it was designed around the monitor I am using and I do not think these will be the same size. More woodwork! smile.gif

PS....I've purchased many many things on the internet over the years, and this is the first time I was asked to swear I wasn't going to sell this item to sanctioned nations...lol

Is there a way to transmit alpha numeric data to the did without using pinmame .

Just say i wanted to play an em table in my cabinet without uvp or bs2 due to performance, but instead wanted to just send the scoring to a real dmd .

Just curious as this is one thing that will help me come to a decision on investing in this board or investing in a beefier pc

i can at some point integrate this this vb scripts so tables that dont use pinmame can use the display.
the software side of this board is almost endless with what it can be integrated with smile.gif. you can have the dmd showing your pc system time if you want!!!

im currently looking at components for v3 of the board which will combine the ftdi+arm into a single microcontroller probably PIC32 this time round, same speed at the arm but MUCH faster usb smile.gif + will be cheaper
smile.gif due to it basically having 1 usb connector 1 dmd connector and a PIC32 lol smile.gif less / cheaper parts, smaller board = cheaper board smile.gif

Awesome.
I have a make cocktail cab with a 32 inch widecreen and i want to incorporate a real dmd to play pinball from one end of it. Don't want to add a backglass monitor, but would like to get the dmd off the playfield .
I could build a small box to house the dmd and use your board.

I would love to see some originals use the real dmd in the future and ems that's why i asked.

Appreciate the work you have done with this. It looks awesome.

Ill be ordering one soon.

When will you be using the new boards. Ill place my order then

smile.gif

iv added a feature where if you have a dmdlogo.txt file inside your tables folder pinmame will read it in between games and send the 128x32 image stored in the txt file to the dmd smile.gif

currently writing a conversion tool to create the .txt file from any 128x32 image. so people can have the dmd display there own custom logos between games smile.gif maybe have it do animations at some point as well smile.gif

if you just want the dmd to clear and stay blank just remove the dmdlogo.txt from your tables folder smile.gif

when i have free time i write a few tools so people can play with the display without even needing pinmame so it can display images / animations smile.gif

for any coders out there. the display just shows up as a virtual com port and all you need to do is stream it frame data and it will display it!!! so any one can write apps for it smile.gif

if any one is interested, give me a shout n ill write a little app note doc explaining how to construct a simple frame to send to it smile.gif
