The Oculus CV1 is probably no more than 3-4 months away and is much better than the devkits (DK2).  I would highly recommend you wait. The price probably isn't that bad (sub $400-$500 is the likely good guess) but note you will need a super PC to run this, due to the high FPS this needs to run at (90 FPS).  Minimum PC is an i5/i7 at very high GHZ (.3.5ghz and up I think, could be wrong though) and an NVidia 970 or AMD R290.  It would work with some lesser hardware but if some games end up having judder, the experience is greatly worsened.

Before anyone blindly invests money in VR, I can't recommend enough that you should try and see if there are VR clubs in your town and try to check it out prior to spending a lot of cash on it.

I completely agree with this.  It's best to try it out at a friends or VR club first.  It will likely cost at least $1200 - $1500 unless you already have a modern 3D gaming PC to build a proper VR setup from scratch.

But sooner or later VR is the thing to do, so if everybody waits to sponsor something like this project until he is safe and has a pc which can handle it its maybe to late, since this project never come alive .

Dont forget that this project has also cab support which dont need fluid 90 fps and you

BTW i need paypal , then i can pledge

Yep, cab support and a regular desktop view will also be available and require much less horsepower than the VR mode.

Don't suppose you have a video of cab support in action? ;-)

Very excited about this project!

Hi nightgaunt98, In the 0.9 alpha build I added the ability to position over the playfield, rotate the display between landscape and portrait, etc.

JMG Tried it out here on his cab:  http://www.vpforums....e=5#entry320656

However it's not quite a true cab mode yet.  In order to do that you have to do what's called "Off Axis Projection" and in order to do Off Axis Projection you have to be able to modify the view matrix.  Unreal Engine 4 doesn't provide a way to set the View Matrix directly.  However UE4 does provide the complete engine source code and quite a few devs on the UE4 forums have already modified it to add Off Axis Projection to their UE4 projects.  It's just something that takes a little time and testing to add on.

I think that the discussion about "waiting" has done a bit of a disservice to this Kickstarter / project's potential success.  It seems maybe the people discussing the concept of waiting or not blindly investing money maybe meant more about the general "VR" experience / hardware acquisition, but it has come across with arguable ambiguity, is unclear what the "wait" should be for specifically (as evident from some posts above), and can / could hurt the potential now for this project's funding.  It seems kickstarter campaigns typically slow down after the first few days, but this has been at the slowest pace of backers / funding (coincidentally or not) since the discussion about "waiting" started - maybe just bad timing.  If nothing else, not really the best appearance and assistance for the project without being extremely clear on that point.  From what I understand there are a lot of posts "out there" pointing back to this thread as part of the awareness and now if someone is reading through they're going to see some potentially misleading comments about "waiting" or delaying action, which would be a shame if it affected this project adversely in any way.

For those that commented on waiting or delaying action, maybe some clarification about the VR specific concept would be helpful or at least some encouragement that this project is still a lot more to many people than merely what it can bring on the Occulus / VR side?

I'm still hopeful and optimistic that the Kickstarter can succeed but I think it's going to take getting it viewed by a good bit more people somehow.

There's also the chance we'll get picked up as a "Staff Favorite" on Kickstarter at some point too.

Here are the places I've been posting/tracking/promoting

(bolded sources have shown up as pledge referrers on the Kickstarter dashboard)

wearvr.com

About 5-7% of pledges have come from users searching on Kickstarter for things like "pinball", "vr", or "oculus"

Any suggestions for other groups or sites that might be interested?

Continuing to share on Facebook and tweeting will help.

Visiting the youtube videos below and giving them a thumbs up might help.

Aren't most of these are curated blogs/news sites?  i.e. you can't really "post" to them.  I agree it'd probably be worth emailing them about pinball labs in the hopes they'd write up an article though, i'll give it a try. :)

Oh, I'm just waiting on getting a paycheck past the holidays and then I'll pledge for the wizard level. Timing the funding of this project right at the holidays is probably not helping much either. Not much spare cash these days and unless you are truly a die hard, people's attentions are focused elsewhere. Activity may step up again after the 1st.

When I created my arcade themed bathroom I emailed them all with pics and they posted them and even wrote an article on them. Contact each site directly. They love to report on cool nerd/geeky software/hardware and creations in general. Millions of people view those sites.

Problem is though, that if everyone is waiting to tip in if it gets close then we may not ever get close at all.
