Big thumbs up on the quality of the packaging, Paul.  Mine is perfectly aligned.  It is going through its color shift as I type this.  I have drivers to install.  Really nice.

Hi,  I just ordered one and it looks great, but I cant do anything with it other than display PinDMD.com on the display.  Can you help a newbie set this up to work on Future Pinball?  I was told it works for future pinball, is this true?

Thanks

Hopefully they are not coming misaligned in shipping? I will try my best to align and tighten them down.

Latin625 have you read the install guide at
http://www.pindmd.com/default.php
Under pinDMD3 section. All future pinball files are there as well.

I have had a slight change of heart on making it pinDMD only though. If I was going to convert pin2dmd data for pinDMD it is only fair to have pinDMD data convert to pin2dmd so every one can swap files about and share all coloured dmd frames.

Ill look into it all shortly :)

Good to hear that maybe the community is coming together on this.
Does pindmd3 also support colored pinballx integration like pin2dmd does ?

Last time i worked with pinballx we had 16shades supported and was under the impression pinballx did not support colour at all. I will speak with Tom and see if we can add colour support as well.
Also is pinballx actually sending colour ed frame data in that video? Or is pin2dmd just recognizing the frames and colouring them it self?

It seems to display the colours from the source by using a modified DLL

I just read on another thread the colouring is getting done pin2dmd hardware side unless tht thread is out of date? As far as i am aware pinballx/xdmd only support 16 shades.

My understanding is that they are coloring with the hardware as a stopgap until Tom modifies PinballX to support color.  He stated he was waiting for the release of PinDMD 3 before he started that project, rather than have to address the issue twice.  Seemed like a reasonable approach to me.

BTW:  Does anybody know how to set up UltraDMD to use the PinDMD3?  I had it going on the third monitor, but now it doesn't respod at all.  The Web displays the backglass and table, but America's Most Haunted doesn't display the backglass and gives an error message that, :UltraDMD has stopped running."  I probably need to set it up again from scratch, but I was hoping I could just change a couple settings.

Lucky1 has informed me he has modified pinballx to send the coloured frames. I will take another look at this and add in full colour xpinball support as well.

The latest version of pinballx supports pindmd3 with 16 shades. Any all software that sits on top should inherit this support. There was a few files that needed updating from memory.

I will look into all this again shortly. I have been extremely busy with work recently but will be getting back into pindmd3 integrations shortly.

Yes, I read the install files, but I can not make heads or tails from it.  I am sorry for my newbieism (new word =) ), I am 100% percent new to this entire thing.  I know next to nothing about the PinDMD and just purchased it because it looked so cool and it was for my first ever build.

I tried following the directions but still can not get anything but the logo to show up.   ANy help would be awesome!  Thanks again for getting back to me.

Ok lets start from the begining lol.

First dowload the usb drivers from
http://www.pindmd.co...usb-drivers.zip
Then unzip some where on your pc.

(i assume you are windows7?)

Now with the pinDMD3 powered, plug it into your computer with the usb cable. The pc should start trying to search for pinDMD3 drivers and fail.

Run the appropriate dpinst exe (64bit for 64bit system etc) this will install the usb drivers for pinDMD3. Now if you go to Device Manager under com ports should be a virtuaPin pinDMD3 com device. If you see this your drivers are installed correctly.

Next part setting up pinMame.
Go to your pinmame folder and replace your vPinMame.dll with this one
http://www.pindmd.co...me/VPinMAME.dll

And also place this .dll in the same folder
http://www.pindmd.co...tion/pinDMD.dll

Run the pinmame settings tool and reinstall the vPinMame.dll

Everything should now be setup.

Awesome! thank you soooooo much for your help and understanding.

Everything is setup and running.  I have the beautiful pinDMD.com logo on my DMD changing colors and all! =)

but I can not find my Pinmame folder, Does your DMD only work with Visual Pinball and not Future Pinball? I saw videos on youtube running FP with your Dmds.     I think VP is the only thing I ever saw that had the pinmame folder in it.

I am trying to get it to run with Future Pinball.

here is what I get on my DMD

Many many thanks!!!!!

A note to anyone upgrading from a three screen setup:

For B2S Server to remain functional, you must edit your screenres.txt file.  Set all the entries for the third monitor to "0" except the DMD X offset (line 10).  Set that one to "1".

Replace this file in your future pinball folder

http://www.pindmd.co...ll/OpenGL32.dll

At the moment 16 shades is only supported. I am working with macro to have full colour.
Ah in this case also need to place the pinDMD.dll in the same folder ad the OpenGL32.dll :)

Ok, I did as you say.  Can you let me know how I can test the DMD or set it up with any future pinball table?  Thanks!

If you go back to pindmd.com and, under the PinDMD3 section, open the downloads folder and then look in the subfolder called utils.  In other words, go to:

http://www.pindmd.co...loads-v3/utils/

Download pinDMD3Demo.exe and pinDMD3config.exe.

The first file will cycle a demo to the DMD and, basically, put it through its paces.

The second will let you do some basic configuration of the board.  Most importantly, you can adjust the brightness.

Between the two, you should be able to determine that it is configured and functional.  Beyond that, I have no knowledge of Future Pinball, so I can't help you with making it work with that program.

Dstott has pretty much covered it hehe.

Can you first (before we go any further) confirm we have communicating with the ponDMD3 by either seeing if it is appearing in device manager under (com ports) or by running this application
http://www.pindmd.co...inDMDconfig.exe
And confirming it can find the pinDMD3 (if it cant find it will tell you / disable all ui controls) if it finds the board it will tell you the firmware rev at the bottom.

After this (and above test pass) just copy those 2 files i mentioned above into your future pinball directory and it will just work. No setting up necessary. Only 128x32 DMD tables are supported though! (Use the default future pinball DMD demo table my self to test)
More infomation here from the integration author Macro

:)

pinDMD3 is new hardware / new usb drivers so if every one could let me know how easy the installation process was / how good my instructions in the installation document was that would really help me out improving it if necessary.

Thanks :)

Ran into a snag installing the driver on Windows 10,

but it was a relatively easy fix.

Below is what I had to do in order to get everything running.

It's not as difficult as it looks, and some of it may just be because of the settings on my rig.

Windows 10 would not install the driver because it is Unsigned.

Follow this procedure to manually install it:

http://www.howtogeek...signed-drivers/

After that go to Device Manager and locate VirtuaPin pinDMD3 under Ports.

Right click - Update Driver Software - Browse my computer...

Locate pinDMD3.inf in the usb-drivers folder

Once I had the driver installed, I went ahead and ran the dpinst-x64.exe (or x86 for 32 bit).

It ran through it's thang and said it was updated.

Probably didn't need to do that last step, but I Believe in Overkill ;-)

(I could not get the driver installer application to work until I did all the above)

If you are using the pinDMD3 Installation Guide: http://www.pindmd.co...allGuide-v3.pdf

the link for pinDMD.dll appears to be broken.

I had to go to http://www.pindmd.com/default.php

to download it. Which is actually a good thing because you will need a few other files from there.

Click on FILES and just grab everything...

Once everything was in place and the new VPinMAME.dll was installed it was up and running!

PinDMD3 is truly a thing of beauty.

Coming from a third lcd is night and day!

I'll do a full review at some point, but now it's off to work...
