By all means, finish it off.
Who knows when every table with alpha's will get the B2S makeover. It is not a quick process.
It will be nice to have it running in the display.

visual pinmame tables with a DMD display will always need a monitor / display of some kind. I doubt B2S will need to be updated to support a dot matrix pinmame display since pinbmame does a great job already.

Whohoo. First post so Hi everyone!

Put me down for one of these too please. I only found pinball cabinets a week ago but it's a must have for me. Just ordered a Vishay 128x32 LEE-128GO32-1 orange. Does anyone know if these are the 1:1 spaced ones without the grouping? I think they are.

Anyhow. This is the first thing I've ordered for my upcoming cabinet so I'm committed now smile.gif

Can't wait to get this underway.

Great to see people like Russ building great gear for hobbyists! Thanks Russ.

Cheers,

Arkay.

I bought that same unit. Each dot is an individual surface mount LED. Looks slightly funky close up due to the dots being square. Haven't tested it at a distance but I'm sure it's fine. Here's a couple pics of it in my whitewater (these are pretty close up compared to standing at the end of the machine)

The weirdness that you see in the first picture is due to jpg artifacting... those lines that make it look grouped are not visible in real life.

I saw the red dot (grouped) LED version on the new AC/DC at the release party a few weeks ago, and it looked really nice - just red, and it wasn't as bright as the orange ones. I'll see how I like the orange, if I don't, I'm sure one of you guys would want to buy it from me! wink.gif

Very nice work.
The alpha numeric will be good for people like me with a cocktail cabinet setup with no backglass monitor.

Appreciate the work you are doing.

Just curious, does this help with performance since the did doesn't need to be rendered

Oh yeah i know there is a performance boost when the dmd isn't rendered.
I was just more curious if there was a performance hit with the software that sends the info to the real dmd.

From what I've heard from h4ck3r, it works really well, but i know he has a super computer. My pc is not quite that good so any performance boost is a plus.

Thanks for working on this russdx.

That's awesome. I'm hoping this will also boost my performance. I feel like I'm about to dump my PC and swap it out for my flight sim PC, which I could probably overclock to 4ghz. My hyperpin one isn't a crappy pc by any means, overclocked to 3ghz, 4 gigs of ram, quad core, etc, but I'm finding some games where it is still having problems. Not having to render the DMD and having the code run in a separate thread that maybe could even be run on another core (?) would be excellent. I'm having a party in two weeks (the 17th).. so sooner than Todd, and I would love to have this little board in my hands before then too. (are you sure you can't accept payment now?) wink.gif

Yes I am posting, But this is only to help inform some of you.

Currently their is a 40 to 50 FPS loss difference with the DMD code in the Pinmame.DLL. Tho this is still in Beta, and Destruk hasn't Cleaned it into the code yet, and disabled the LCD DMD within it. I would say that after Beta is done, and the LCD DMD is removed from the Code, you will see a GREAT increase in FPS.

Not to mention that you can run both your Playfeild, and your Backglass on one GPU.

The only issue I see with the alfa numeric numbers is having both the DMD and the BS2 running at the same time. Hopefully There will be away to edit the pinmame, or have it call to a file that says to run the DMD or not for certain games. That as a end user can control, so that we can avoid a double score board. And update the Pinmame.DLL based on what games have been completed with the BS2 system.

I can personally say that the Real DMD is night and day, compared to the LCD DMD. And those waiting for a COLOR DMD, they are just using a LCD in full color for it. Not to mention that your Going to be waiting at least 3 to 5 years to get your hands on it, unless we as a community redo it ourselves.

Stern is coming out with a NO DMD system, and replacing the backglass with a LCD ( what most of us cab owners already have ) And the scoring will be taking place on the backglass LCD.

This is good for two reasons... One, the Stern Sam Systems games will be available for us in the not to far distance future. Two, and those of us with a Real DMD, and a LCD backglass will be future proof with sterns new system, when and if they are available.

Bottom line, Get this DMD while you can, you wont regret it. Also Russ is a great person to deal with, and has so far addressed every issue that has come along. ( Mind you I'm still beta testing it )

It's H4CK3R Approved,

H4CK3R
