Would a "BAM view" be coming to a version of VP at some point?

I experimented a lot with BAM on FP but I never got a realistic camera perspective. I do not know if this is the answer to everything...

It's interesting that the desktop view is relatively exact but the cabinet version is lacking depth completely. Especially the height of higher objects like ramps can not be seen at all.

Yep, I agree with that - I got rid of the BAM-idea (and FP) after many, many hour of testing. Sure it looks nice and it is great if you want to brag about your cab (wohoo, look what my cab does!), but it is completely unnecessary. I dont know what you guys are doing in front of your cab - I am standing relatively still in front of it - so I dont need any head-tracking...

BAM is not simply all about Head Tracking.

I admit I haven't seen BAM specifically in real life, but when Johnny Lee first put up his stuff about using the WiiMotes to do head tracking, I was blown away.  I finally got around to implementing it and in real life it doesn't look that great (at least for me, maybe I'm sensitive to real 3D?).  When you watch a 2D movie showing a 3D effect on a 2D screen, your brain fills in what it would look like in 3D.  But when you're watching a 3D effect on a 2D screen (mean both eyes are seeing the same perspective of an image but that image is moving), then it doesn't look 3D; to me it just looks like something is changing perspective in sync with my movement.  I don't get that popping out of the screen feeling I got when I watched the videos on youtube because I think my brain filled that in (sort of like when you cover up one eye you still feel like you're seeing in 3D because you're familiar with your surroundings so your brain is taking previous knowledge of the area as well visual cues such as perspective lines to fill it in; but if you remain on eyed for too long and/or go into a place you're not familiar with, you'll have difficulty telling just how close/far something is).

Yes, you can "look around" objects, and it definitely does have its uses, I just was so blown away by the vids on youtube and when I finally did it myself I was not nearly as impressed, the effect just isn't there for me like it when I watch a video of the effect.

It would work great for me since I lack depth perception!    :pokey:

Kind of a similar story, there's a dragon that appears to be following you around a room.    I built it and the illusion was really awesome for me in person.    People with normal binocular vision that I showed it to were way less impressed.

perhaps a combination of BAM headtracking and 3D glasses would provide the optimum effect?

Now that would be mighty impressive.  I know there's a 3d option in VP right now, but I haven't seen or read any one doing it (I know it would be difficult to show in a video, but you could showcase the technology).

I've used BAM as well, and it's very cool, but your brain doesn't allow you to lose yourself in the illusion.  if you close one eye, it looks great and effective.  that's why it looks so cool on video because esentially you're looking through on "eye" (the lens)

so after the initial coolness factor wore off, I was back to VP for the superior gameplay.

Guys! I said "Note that this is separate from head tracking, which is a different issue." So the whole headtracking discussion here is a red herring. I was talking about the camera projection. The dragon is cool though :D

All in all the visual should be more like looking on a real table, adding more depth. Like on the RS photo I posted. No head tracking required as soon as the visuals are right.
