I've noticed something that's been in all the 10.7 versions i've used.... just switching from edit view and backglass view in the editor.... it asks you to save when exiting the editor, and no other version of VPX editor has ever ask before
i just wanted to point it out

10.7 asks you to save pretty much if you touch anything, even change the editor view from table to backglass

i guess it's a better safe than sorry approach?

I even asks me to save if i have clicked on a layer, but not actually done anything, not even hid or unhid said layer, just touched it

was to load it into the table and use in flexdmd so you dont need extra folders

 

and it looks like something is on the way with the new version of flex... so all looks good

Hi JPS ;) It's not the first time i ear talking about registry... It works fine in 10.6 since the beginning... it's the second beta of 10.7 i try... 

I tried searching a key in the VP10 part, but i didn't see one speaking about FIND or case sensitive find...

 

If someone has the registry's key ?

as i modified my answer :

 

Praticly RESOLVE !!!!

 

Ok JP, it was the registry !!! i have deleted all entries in the Editor part all but not the Dock Windows.

 

And it works now if i write all in little letters.

If i type a big letter, and if the case sensitive is not checked, it should search for both little and big but it don't... For me it's ok like that but perhaps there is something not logical there  ;)

This test works fine in 10.6.

 

Toxie ? perhaps could you give us the name of the entry in the registry for deleting only one ?

 

I cannot explain this behavior at all unfortunately. To all my knowledge there is no registry entry in VPX for this, i also could not find anything related.

And even if, as for the search itself, we use standard windows functionality, and there is no configuration/parameters to actually enforce your described behavior (just checked again).

So i have no clue.  :/

 

No problem @toxie, i can use smal letters and it works now like that !! ;) ;) ;)

It works with small caracters only if i search 1 word !!!!

 

If i search for 2 words : "turn off" for exemple it doesn"t work ! i have to check the box even if the words i'm seaching are in little caracteres...Very strange issue !! and of course if it is like that in the script !"Turn offé it won't find it...

It's strange because it's not an old installation... All is new, system and all...

What happens when you search notepad

As VPX does not do it's own searching, it uses the same search API notepad uses, i am wondering if it is broke elsewhere?

It works fine with notepad and notepad++ ;)

 

It doesn't work at Chucky too..

Hi... VPW folks are looking for a spot when to hop onto 10.7 finally. Been busy with authoring, but now have time to look into 10.7. Really sorry to come late into loop.
 
One of the most important tools for me is the debug editor. I use it all the time and really cannot do my debug in VR version as it is lacking this editor. So even small updates to that would help table authoring a lot.
  • For example if I just could resize it? It becomes quite small when tracing some debug prints.
  • Or that there would be some sort of "code completion" feature so I wouldn't need to type so long commands time after time.
    • Debugging and adjusting flashers would benefit a lot of this as there are quite many commands. I use cheat sheet atm.
  • Or that ESC-key would exit it; currently using alt+f4.
 
 
Then another rendering related thing.. This happens in 10.6 and was hoping 10.7 would cure it. It is not. :|
 
I'm using Radeon 6900xt on one of my PC's and I'm seeing this rendering issues with elements that are supposed to be under the PF. I do have "Alternate Depth Buffer processing" enabled and it doesn't affect to this particular thing.
 
This issue is not visible if I start the table with F6! Or that I run it in VPVR. It happens only if I start the table normally using F5. And only with Radeon; Intel and NVidia are ok.
 
I did spend some time to mess with depth bias values and video settings, but couldn't come up with a way to make it render correctly. Example below. Those black squares are walls that are blocking light bleed between under-pf inserts. Also on red insert you see how the plywood edge gets rendered on top of PF. If someone has idea what to try or even help me debug this further using visual studio, I'm totally in for a challenge.

Either way, the internet told me that maybe(!) dropping in the files from https://www.indirectsound.com/ into the VPX directory may help you.

Yes, I have a 5.1 setup on this PC.

 

So I dropped in those files and just did about 10 launch and loads, and didn't see the pop-up.  I think you nailed it!  That was some great detective work, thanks!

Well the error means
 
DSERR_BUFFERLOST

Buffer memory has been lost, and must be restored.

 

It is a directsound error, not a vpx error per se

 

Unfortunately causes are kind of generically broad

Bad DX9 install

Bad audio drivers

Bad audio configuration

Bad or missing Codecs

Faulty audio hardware

Faulty DirectSound configuration

Faulty application

 

But since the issue is not being seen by others, faulty app is kind of ruled out i guess.

Seems like the indirectsound fixed it, as it seems to be a common issue with other games using direct sound, too, so all good.

You posted while i was :)

 

If indirectSound cures the issue, then it is going to be a driver or dxsound issue
one possibility is the audio implementation you have does not have good win10 drivers, or some piss poor backwards compatibility

the DX sound part, you could try running the DX 9.0c installer, as sometimes various updates seem to mess it up.
I have to occasionally reinstall it on my desktop because some OS or driver update will kinda break it making some of my older games not work right.

 

If it is a case of driver implementation which i more suspect, sometimes there is not much you can do but use external fixes, like indirectsound

A lot of people have to go that route to maintain multi speaker sound support in older games.

 

I have to use indirectsound for the old battlefield (1942 / vietnam) for it to see surround and starwars battlefront and some others
And have to use a different but similar set of dll's based off of old soundblaster drivers for things like diablo II, so they can do the environmental effects.

 

I think one day, rather soonish, it is going to be hardware drivers that force VPX to get redone in DX11 or 12

I know i'm not a dev and getting the bits right for devs is so much more important.

so please don't take this wrong. My only knock after playing all week:

been playing build 225 all week vs 169. I thought 169 had almost perfect default physics.

curious if others are seeing noticeable play differences in 225 (my way to describe it is super-fast, less gravity, less friction) from prev build like 169. 

Especially on a lot of early SS and EMs, regardless of whether they have "old" physics or brand new JP 3.0s in their own build.

For example play Supersonic 3.0.0 from JP which has his new physics, it's (almost too) FAST in build 225.

I'm on a 10900 cpu with NVidia GTX 2080 Super GPU on a 1080 120Hz GSync monitor, if that helps.

Keep up the great work and tell me to take a leap if this is not issue for anyone else!

It does not exactly.

 

For many older games, when they go to poll the audio capabilities of the hardware
they just get a generic stereo as an answer.
I guess that could cause an issue for VPX when it says Hey, we want do do 4 audio streams, and it gets back a messed up response

 

It does very much depend on the audio hardware/drivers

ABC chip as implemented by company A might work fine and ABC chip as implemented by company B may suck bilge water.

 

 

I dont have to do anything for VPX, but for some other games i do.
Which i use depends on what the game responds best to.
One is IndirectSound, the other is a modified DSound.dll and EAX.dll yanked out of creative alchemy.

 

Some stuff works better with one as opposed to the other
