Is my screenshot the standard response from Pinselect for not having all the images and wheel logos for the xml VP and FP table lists.  I have 430+/- FP and about 80VP tables loaded in Hyperpin all load up and play, although loading some slowly, w/o any wheel logos or images for the tables.  I havent gotten around to it, yet.  When I tried PS, I get this error noted in screenshot.

I will type it in case the reduced uploaded picture is too small to read:

Error loading database:  System,Format,Exception: Input string was not in the correct format:

at system,number,string to number(BLAHBLAHBLAH)

at system,number,parseINT32(BLAHBLAHBLAH)

at PinSelect database load:  (Bolean_compare to date)

I can navigate blindly through PS, using the default HP keystrokes....RShift and Lshift, but there is no text.  All there is is the blue image at the bottom of the screen.

I actually like the text in HP cause  I have 4 versions of MM (Day and Night of VP and FP), but with one wheel logo and no text it would be hard to tell them apart.  Anyways is there a workaround for that error, or does the xml database have to be perfect in order to run....

The VP games I loaded into Hyperpin (cause I didnt have any 16:9 tables just FS and B2S tables from Pinemhi) only have the exact executable name/game name and description like "Medieval Madness NM VP"  I did FP first so I decided to add a VP at the end of each description for the wheel.  Unfortunately the text I have made down to 4 font size and I still cant get the whole description on HP.  I suppose the wheel logo is set at a certain size/pixels of the 1080pixels to work with.

Just some issues after putting in PS into HP and launching.  Any comments would be appreciated THANKS

Your database has some format problems. PinSelect uses manufacturer, date and type for filtering the tables. Therfore you should update your db. The error in your screenshot pops up if you didn't use numbers, only numbers in the date field. The parsing could be made stronger but that would result in a strange filter menu presentation. Besides that adding text under the wheel logo will be added in the next update.

Great! Tnx! Little by little and you will have complete hyperpin functionality in there.

Version 1.82 is up. I added two new options in the PinSelect section of the ini file. ShowTableFileName and ShowTableDescription. Both can be set to Yes/No and

PinSelect will show you the respective text. Check the ps_readme.txt for more infos.

Sorry I've slipped out of touch in the past week or so, a couple questions if I may.

1. Can we pull up Flyers and Rule Cards yet?

  • If this is going to be worked on can we make the flyer as close to full screen as possible.

2. Is there a way to change the filter menu key to the genre key? Right now it's activating with my Instructions/Rules button which is isn't making sense to me.

3. Can we get PS to utilize the [Startup Programs] and [Exit Programs] in the settings ini? I'd like it to clear my led's on exit.

Thanks and sorry if this stuff has already been covered.

1. afaik it shouldn't be complicated to add flyers to PS because they are simple jpg images. I didn't understand why the instruction cards are flash files, I would like not to use flash at all as this is resource hungry and you

don't really know what happens inside flash.

2. I have to change PS to use the genre key instead of the instructions key. How about other users? Do you think this would be better/cleaner?

3. No problem...will add that in the next version :)

Weirdest thing:

i tried running simpsons pinball party (tssp), from Pinselect 1.82, and got 2000 FPS average, but occasional stutter made it unplayable.  Starting the same table from Hyperpin resulted in 1800 FPS average, but NO occasional stutter, and smooth gameplay.

so:

GOOD) table running with higher FPS when started from pinselect vs Hyperpin

BAD) stutter when running from pinselect

Only thing i can think of is that the continued processor load from Hyperpin is keeping my AMD phenom II awake, thus avoiding utilising energy saving features that cause microstutter?????

Full screen Flyers would be awesome, HP is only able to do that from within the a game exit menu and not from the main table browsing. Sometimes it's cool just to read the flyers, it's a pain having to launch a table just to get it bigger so my tired eyes can read it.

I agree about instruction flash files. I'm all for using less resources, that is after all why PS exists correct. Also the less we rely on external stuff like flash the better.

Hopefully others will weigh in on the filter key change, genre just makes sense in my opinion, especially since that's what HP is doing, PS just has a more complete set of filters that's all.

Hi fuzzel,

What is the exact problem by playing flash movies in c#? I would love to help but before I digg in it would be nice to know what the problem/concerns are about it? (The only reason I want it is to reuse the material from HyperPin) If, what else format should we choose to support? I can convert the movies to .avi If that is better?

The problem is that I couldn't found any good way to rotate the video and to add the wheel+icon as overlay to the video in c#. Another problem is to play those .f4v files, VLC can play them but the c# wrappers I checked

didn't rotate. And even if you can get VLC to work you have the overlay problem. If you have any idea on how to solve this let me know ;)

Good information! So the problem is not flash it self but more that it has to be rotated.

What if we use another video format? Would that be the solution? .avi ? I would have no problem in converting the files if I had a great frontend.

it's more a general problem...you could convert everything to XNA and use .wmv files but that would result in really big files because they must have an adio stream too...I'm not a .net expert but until now I haven't found a free library or other way, that's the main reason why there isn't any video support in PS ;)

I don't want it to be XNA  :-)

So .wmv is a "no go" because of the file size? What is your estimat for one movie?

And if we use xvid or another encoded format we need a libary?

Is that correct? I will start to looking for options to get this to work.

It's not the format at all. There are different ways to play a video in .NET or WPF but all are more or less limited in their features. Rotating a movie while playing it seems to be impossible :D

And another problem is: even if you have your movie playing fine and rotated you want to draw some overlays over it (wheel stuff) and bang another no go here ;)

I hope you have more luck in finding a way doing that...

I will give it a try.
It should be easy to do with html5/js. Wonder if it was possible to have a web view.
I will make a poc of that.

I won't be able to help here, but .f4v is a container for H264 video content, so it should be easy to convert existing animated videos to .mp4 or .mkv, if that format makes it easier to support/manipulate

the format isn't the real problem...I would love to play them out of the box because no one has to convert the HP videos, but if that
isn't possible any other formats with a good packing ratio are ok. But converting a .f4v into something different shouldn't explode the file
size. Today the HP videos are arround 10mb and that's ok, but 20+mb isn't...

Short question: Does anyone know a media pack which has more flyer images, e.g. images in inside1/2/3/4/5/6 folder and not only in the front/back folder?
