Converted? No, because I was never an "adept" ;)

Look, I'm just an user and I stay away from those fights ;)
I like to play stuff and build stuff :)

Hey neohusky,
What do you mean? The camera zoom or via software using BAM!'s camera FIX?

I was reading a lot of ravarcade posts and they indicated the the Head Tracking works best with InfraRed (IR) LEDs. As standard the ps3 eyes actually filter out (remove) the infrared wavelengths. What they have been doing is modifying the ps3 eye camera by removing the IR filter and replacing it with a daylight filter so that the camera only sees IR. The daylight filter can be a proper bought filter or even a piece of magnetic tape from a old floppy disc.

I offered my time to recreate some toys for Future Pinball.

Here's what I sculpted yesterday, for the Tales of Arabian Nights FP recreation:

SWEET!!!  That lamp is gorgeous!  I've been watching that TOTAN WIP thread with great anticipation for weeks.  Thrilled to hear that you're contributing to the cause!  Can't wait to see what other goodies you crank out, Kris!

Hi Kris,

Wait a sec, Did I understand correctly that you got it to work without modifying the 2 cameras?  Those videos you posted were done with two PS3 cameras, but without the cameras modified???  I though Rav said that was a necessary part.  COOL!  Ok, I'm going to have to figure out how you did that, I already have the two cameras!!!

Yes! No modifications needed, just two PS3 Eye cameras. But here's the catch: it only works when the room is dark. During the day any light glimpsing from the background is enough to confuse the system.
I bet that modified cameras work better for well lit environments as well, so maybe that's why he was being a little emphatic on that :)

DCP,
I believe there's no driver available just yet, but he is working on it.

Gamester,
thanks! I will try to help improving some of the current models, so stay tuned!

Check out the info on gopinball forums. I found this thread about BAM hardware useful:
http://www.gopinball...php?f=74&t=3303

Also there's bits and pieces in the original BAM thread:http://www.gopinball...php?f=74&t=3249

Not a very elegant way to do it, but I got his point, LOL!

Similar, slightly less violent :)

Some info Rafal sent me via Email:

----

If You break lense or find PS3Eye Toys with imposible to remove filter You can order parts to replace whole lens:
lens:
mounting:
filter:
----

So it is not very expensive, if something goes wrong.

Not expensive except for shipping from China. If something goes wrong it's cheaper just to toss the broken camera and get another.

Funny thing is, for cheap filters who has floppy disks or photo film lying around anymore? I think I tossed out what I have years ago.

I bought a couple of cameras for $5 each the other day. Much cheaper than getting replacement parts. The store has 4 more so I might get some spares in case the mod turns ugly. I've got plenty of old floppy discs to try this with. I've read that some people used isopropyl alcohol to 'rub' the coating off the IR filter. Has anyone tried this?

Afraid is a strong word. I like to think I respect mine... a lot... (to the point of ALMOST fear!!!! LOL :P ).

As I said before, I'm planning to rebuilt several toys (if my free time permits) for FP tables, but they can be used as pre-renders for VP tables as well if anyone is interested.
I'm just REALLY excited about everything happening around FP at this point, including the new recent developments involving physics, 3D support, head tracking, DMD support, LedWiz support (normal and specular maps as well, via BAM!!!!! :D ) etc and since it's a real 3D environment, I can finally build some real 3D toys that will look pretty cool in stereo ;)

Here's another 3D model I started yesterday: RUDY! Still a lot to be fixed, including model and paint. Sculpted in ZBrush. Rendered in Maya/VRay render.

Amazing!
Show us the Genie, show us the genie!!

(already seen it on other forums, but show it to us HERE!) :D
I just began to redo my cab for FP tables with ps3 cam's.
The testing i've done with BAM is SICK!, really really cool, the future looks great for FP!
(Especially now with new physics and that we got some kick ass 3D artists in the "scene")
