On to the next ramp…

This next ramp has an image at the bottom portion. For this we’ll import an image to use and make a ramp section for just the portion that has the image. We’ll then add more ramp sections to complete the ramp at various heights to make sure that it clears all objects below.

Import the Ramp_Yellow.bmp image below into your table:

Add a ramp section just above where the ramp flap is and make the end go to just where the plastic and metal guide below are:

Set the top height to 60 (since we want to clear our plastic and metal images which are at a height of 50). Set the bottom width to 85 and top width to 70. Set the image to the ramp_yellow that we imported and use ImageModeWrap for the mode.

Now we need to build the next section of the ramp. Add another ramp section starting where the previous one ended (you can click on the control point of the end of the previous to get the X & Y coordinates and manually set the beginning control point of the next section to those values). This section is going to be short because we need a certain height at a certain point to clear where a bumper will be added later. Refer to the image below:

Set the bottom height of this section to 60 and the top height to 80 (this will allow us to clear the plastic at the bottom of this section and clear the bumper at the top). Set the width for both bottom and top to 70. Set this section to be transparent as you did for the previous ramp that you built.

Now for the next section, we will end where there is a gate so if the ball doesn’t travel far enough it will fall through a hole at the top of the bumper area:

Set the bottom height to 80 and the top height to 118. This will give us plenty of height to clear the bumpers at the bottom and will not be too high at the top since we have a ramp that will eventually be above this one. Set both widths to 70 and make it transparent.

Now for the ramp and hole portion. Add a ramp object with bottom and top height set to 118. Set both widths to 70. Make it transparent. Since we want the ball to be able to roll to the left to fall into the hole we’ll build, set the Visible Wall Left Wall to 0. Now add a wall object and shape it as in the image below:

Set the top height of the wall to 118 and the bottom to 117. Set the top color to our transparent image.

Lastly, we’ll add a ramp object formed around the outer part of this wall object to keep the ball from falling off. Refer to the image below and duplicate the spape:

Make the width of this ramp object for both top and bottom to 8. Set the top and bottom height to 143 (143 is 25 units about the floor height of 118 which is half the height of the ball object which is 50 units). Make the image transparent by setting it’s image to our transparent image.

Now for the last section before the wire portion begins. Add another ramp section starting at the end of the previous section and shape it like the image below and have it end at the wire portion:

Set both top and bottom height to 118. Set both widths to 70. Make it transparent.

Your table should now look like this:

This concludes part 1 of the exercise for this ramp. Part 2 will go through making the wire ramps. I will hopefully post the next part in a few days…

Noah was kind enough to re-do the ramp decal (Thanks again Noah!):

Download it and replace mine in the previous post with this one.

Also, we need to add a one-way gate object to the flat ramp where we want the ball to fall through the hole if it doesn’t travel enough. Refer to the following image:

Make sure you set the gate’s surface to the ramp object (in my example the ramp section is ramp1) that it is on. Also you will need to adjust the length and rotation.

Sorry I haven't posted anything more. I've been on vacation to the bay area near San Francisco and didn't have internet access. I logged on here for the first time tonight in almost two weeks and had 7 pages of posts to go through. I'm trying to get all caught up with things. Hopefully I'll have time on the weekend to post the next part.

I got some time this afternoon and playied around building the wire ramp to complete the last ramp we did. I'm not happy with the results and it's been a while since I made one of these. I need to go back and do a little more research from some of the released tables to see how they were done and incorporate the process to the ID table...

I'm logging in here for the first time in about a week. As if things weren't busy enough, either I (or my drive imaging program) messed up last week and I lost two drive partitions. Of course one of them was the one with the all of my pinball pictures collected off the internet this year (I know, I was just about to get ready to make backups but hadn't done it yet) as well as all the VPM pinball tables collected in the last year too. I am in the process of trying to recover what was lost, but so far with the programs I downloaded trials of, they only look like they can recover about 10% of the losses (I also made another error due to frustration and tiredness and overwrote about 20GB of data to my hard drive that potentially could have been recovered had I not messed up again). When it rains, it pours!!! I probably won't get back to working on the wire ramps for a couple weeks due to trying to recover my data and some other obligations I have on the weekend.

Sorry to hear about this wtiger. Good luck recovering your data, I know it won't be easy.

Thanks for the pictures Destruk.

I will probably be spending most of my time this 4-day-weekend going through my recovered files. My directory structure was non-existent so both R-Studio and DiskInternals NTFS Recovery resotred my files without any of the original names. They found 159,000 jpg files and I will attempt to go through to sort out the pinball pictures from others. I was able to recover some of my .psd Photoshop files, but of course, the ID plastic file was corrupt and useless. I may take a break from this whole recovery task and play around with the wire ramps a bit. Luckily my actual ID table was not affected.

Wow, that's amazing wtiger! Definitely take as much time as you need. I know it's not much help, but what if I sent you my GiMP file of the plastics? If you like, I'll try and save it as a PSD. Send me a PM if you're interested in the plastics file.

Hey, no prob! I'm actually real busy with a WIP atm, it's coming along nicely and should be ready in about 8-10 days time. the table is down i just need scoring, lights, and sounds put in, a few more cosmetic touch-ups...but take your time we aren't holding our collective breaths or anything biggrin.gif , but we truly feel your pain, here. Go slow, get all your lost stuff up to snuff and then post with another goodie, we'll still be here!

Well it looks like Faralos is out of the game for a while with his PC dying on him. Is there any chance this project will resurrect itself like a pheonix? wink.gif good.gif

I hope the PC problems get themselves sorted out soon so we can get back on track! Good Luck everyone!

Todd.

I do hope this one makes it to the end. We lost the other two already sad.gif

I have plans for a new workshop format and will give that a shot once this one is completed or declared dead, but I have hopes for it yet.
