I don't think somebody posted fake scores so far. I'm saying this because I think Visual pinball is a little easier than real pinball, nevertheless, looking at real scores posted in pinballhighscores.org, majority of scores are 4 or 5X higher than top scores posted here. So I believe is more likely that those scores might be fake, compared with visual pinball scores posted so far. I have not seen anything exceptional so far. An example?
LOTR Vp top score around 1.3 billion, undoubtedly an outstanding score, but nothing compared to 4.2 billion top score published in pinabllhighscores.org with a real machine.. If somebody would play with walls, I don't think would be so hard to reach such levels, other examples?
Medieval madness, top Vp score around 1.3 billion, top real pinball score almost 3 billion
The simpsons pinball party, top vp score 474 million, top real score 1.3 billion
Cirqus voltaire, top vp score 243 million, top real score 1.4 billion
Tales of the arabian nights, top vp score 218 million, top real pinball score, 3.6 billion!!!
and so on...
This is an interesting point to make, although I don't know if this proves the point. I don't get to play a lot of real tables where I live, so I have to remember my college days back in the early '90s and I would be hard pressed to say which is consistently harder,
VP or real pins. I remember killing the real Star Wars pin to the point the bartender of that particular joint forbade me to play anymore to give other people a chance, I kept playing that machine to replay but can't remember the actual scores. If I try that on JP's Star Wars, it kicks my @ss every so often. Getting to
VP LOTR 1.4B was really hard work, so a score in the 4B range on a real machine is mind-boggling to me and while I don't want to overestimate my own skills, it would lead me to think that the real pin maybe easier to play? JP's tables have been called very fast by some real pin owners that can compare the gameplay and physics between
VP and the real deal. Then you have a lot of techniques that advanced real pin players have mastered that aren't even possible on a
VP machine. Just watch the excellent Pinball 101 DVD, see
http://www.pinballvideo.com/p101.htm and you'll see what I mean. Think Death Saves for example and complex nudging moves where you coax the ball upwards out from an outlane. On the other hand,
VP tables can be more predictable and some have very liberal nudge settings. I think it's a complex issue but I would love to see some discussion about that (although I do vaguely remember having posted before in a thread about this particular topic....)
