Well PinballX looks almost exactly like hyperpin...at least that’s where it got it’s look from. I don’t see a problem with having the same look at all.
I think this is a great project! But I’m now using the popper system but still test this out now and then and is looking like a great front end already!

How do you delete a table from the database?

I had two versions of a table & meant to add the newer one but accidentally added the older one. I then deleted the older table from my Tables folder but PinballY still shows all the images so now I have duplicates.

It appears I can hide the table, but since the old table no longer exists I'd rather just delete it from PinballY.

I opened the Visual Pinball X.xml database & tried to deleted the old table but it won't let me. How do I delete it?

Initially I tried to delete all the Setup information for the old table but that did not work because images still displayed. In the future if I want to delete all the Setup and/or Media information for an old version how would I do that? That would make it easier to differentiate two versions because only one would have images.

Have you got a SpecSavers over there? Nice one for mentioning another FE.

Problem? Well, would be a problem to run all three at the same time.

I mentioned about this being spitting image of PinballX and now we're talking about your fave frontend and what you're running.

Last reply, you're obviously looking for an argument and I don't have time to waste doing so.

HyperPin was too much of a ballache by the end of it. The FPLaunch etc. I don't use PinballX, I did for a short while and did advise on some features there.

For YOUR record, MJR can do what he chooses to do, I'm not trying to stop him or piss on the parade. Take the wheel system out of the equation and you have the style of PinballX.

Why wouldn't it let you?   Some error?  How did you open it?    I am able to open the xml files and delete the bits associated with one table and save it.  PinballY is not running when I do this...

Also I've moved the xml into the pinballY path, not pointing at the pinballX xml anymore...

I only have the PinballY front end & am using Windows 7. PinballY is not running.

I go into the folders, PinballY > Databases > Visual Pinball X and double click on the Visual Pinball X.xml file.

It opens up and shows the game name, description, etc. I then highlight the 8 lines of text pertaining to the game I want to delete. Then press the Delete key on the keyboard & nothing happens.

A light bulb just went off - I just realized it opens in IE 11. I then opened the Visual Pinball X.xml file.in Notepad & was able to delete the game.

Glad you were able to track it down in the XML and delete it.

But now that you mention it, it would probably be nice to have a "delete game details" command in the UI to make this a little easier.

I am not seeing any captured playfield videos? Checked that video is enabled. VLC player is installed. It is creating playfield images okay and placing them in Media/Visual Pinball X

There is also not a feedback dialog box showing time remaining.

Were you seeing them in the past?  I.e., is this a new problem in Alpha 10?

It doesn't matter whether you have VLC player installed or not, by the way.  PBY comes with its own libvlc DLLs, so it doesn't matter what other VLC you might or might not have installed.

And for the video files in question, are you able to view them in a standalone video player (like, say, VLC)?  That would help tell whether the capture is failing or the playback is failing.

Given the lack of the countdown dialog, it sounds like you might be having a capture problem.  Try turning on the capture logging in the Log File options, run a video capture, and see what comes up in the log file.

I think a few builds ago I ran it and briefly looked in the folder but it must have just been an image capture. Was too busy messing with FP table launches at the time.

I can click on any MP4 on my system and they launch.

I get the starting dialog box and it will count down current item. When current goes to zero, it shows remaining, like 50 sec and then the dialog box disappears. The table stays up in attract mode but nothing further happens. If I hit escape it asks to bring up the VP editor.

Is it supposed to build the MP4 and then put it in (or create directory if first time) Media\Visual Pinball X\Table Videos ?

hl53 - If you are on 4K, that would be it. :)  STV and I have been trying to figure why that's not working - probably something in the parameters I'm sending to ffmpeg that doesn't work for 4K, like codec selection or something.

It looks like your log file didn't have Capture logging enabled when you ran it - or if it did it didn't work, since it should include the FFmpeg command lines and results back from FFmpeg.  If Capture wasn't already enabled in your options, try enabling it and running the capture again to see if we can get some feedabck from FFmpeg about what it thinks is wrong.  I'm pretty sure that's where the problem is.  I'm still on 17th century HD technology at my end so I can't do the 4K tests myself.

I'll check some more stuff in AM. Movie time w/wife.

Well PinballX looks almost exactly like hyperpin...at least that’s where it got it’s look from. I don’t see a problem with having the same look at all.
I think this is a great project! But I’m now using the popper system but still test this out now and then and is looking like a great front end already!

He's obviously a talented guy and this is a good thing for the community. However, the only thing copied from HyperPin iin PinballX is the wheel system and I added compatibility with media which I kind of had to do.

I barely looked at HyperPin when I created PinballX. I looked at a few videos and that was about it. This guy basically copied all the features, then gave it the same name. Nothing to do with the looks.

I also credited HyperSpin and Bill and did not call PinballX Hyperpin2. I also gave Bill a heads up before I released.

I think most nice people would agree it was a shitty thing to do calling it PinballY considering everything is copied.

He will cover his ass though and gain a lot of respect. I just think he's not a particularly nice person. Nobody cares though.

Anyway, like I said - I am over it.

Oh, in that case it's something else.

For the capture logging setting, go to the options dialog, Log File page, and check the box for media capture.  Captures done after that's applied should add more information to the log.

Is it supposed to build the MP4 and then put it in (or create directory if first time) Media\Visual Pinball X\Table Videos ?

Log file:

Media file lookup for Big Game, for capture: Playfield Video, path C:\PinballY\Media\Visual Pinball X\Table Videos, found C:\PinballY\Media\Visual Pinball X\Table Videos\Big Game (Gottlieb 1971).mp4

Right - exactly.  That log line there about the "Media file looking for ... for capture" is saying where it's going to try to store the captured video.  At least, that's telling you what the media file lookup is coming up with.  When you get the capture logging enabled that'll show you the exact command line it's sending to FFmpeg, so we can double-check that the file specified there is the same as the file we're assuming from the path lookup here.

Just to reiterate on the open source thing. My original point is not with Open Source is with the abuse the front end will get with people doing shady things.

So to get to my point, please do us all favour and stipulate no commercial use. I was upset but that was what I was getting at.

Make sense?

If it doesn't make sense, see this for example:

https://www.vpforums...599#entry411976

PS: Again, I have no way to contact you, so apologies for public posts.

This is not possible with the GPL license the project is released under.   Proper open source licenses do not discriminate against commercial usage.

See:

https://opensource.org/faq#restrict

VP and VPM are under the old MAME license which has this type of verbiage.  But even the MAME team switched to a GPL license as there were concerns over the enforceability of such a clause

See:

I also tried the 32 bit version and still getting the same behavior. Capture starts ok but appears to hang as the table never exits. Tried Alpha 8 and Alpha 10 builds,

No ffmpeg.exe running?

Nothing is blocked if anyone asks :-)

EDIT: My Alpha 8 build (also tested on cab system) Tested on my other sys (Win 10 home vs pro on cab) and it built a MP4 video. However, when I run it just winds automatically to the end? And yes MP4s play fine as I do a lot of guitar recording videos. Shows 748KB and 15 sec length, If recording with sound I got a sound Mix error. I'll have to look at that one.
