It looks like my announcement here yesterday got lost, so I'm reposting...

The batch of boards from the first group order arrived yesterday!  I've already shipped out boards to everyone who has already sent a PayPal payment - you should have received an email from me with a tracking number.  If you paid already and haven't heard from me, drop me a note at [email protected] to make sure I didn't miss you.  If you haven't contacted me about payment yet, email me at the same address so we can work out details.

Also, I ordered a few extra, so if you didn't reserve anything earlier, I might still be able to accommodate.

The boards are here, but unfortunately the documentation isn't.  I got sidetracked with the software upgrade to support the new hardware, and I'm still not finished with that.  I'm going to try to get that finished as soon as possible - it's pretty critical because it will make configuration much easier with all of the new hardware options.  Once I get that done I'll start working on the build guide, but at this point that obviously won't be done fast enough for people building boards from this first batch.  So instead, I'll try to offer an interactive guide by answering questions on the forum.  I've started a new thread for that:  http://www.vpforums....showtopic=34102.

I recently discovered this topic.

I'm currently building my own Virtual Pinball and this looks like a great solution!

I've ordered the PCB's and components and I'm really looking forward to seeing the result...

Is there a way to get the blank boards somewhere?

Send me a PM, shipping from Canada is notoriously expensive and I don't believe mjr was shipping outside of the US... though I thought I read someone was doing an order for the UK folks, not sure why I think that, he that person has any left that would likely be your cheapest option.

Regardless, send me a PM with your city and I'll get you an estimate. My cost for the 3 board set was $16 Canadian, so that plus shipping is what you would be looking at from me.

There is even a much cheaper method to get those boards in Germany: buy them locally. You can get them here  :dblthumb:

At 8,90 EUR per board from that site I'm actually offering them cheaper shipped from Canada! I figure I can get a set to Germany for less than $30 Canadian... granted you will get them MUCH fast from that link. Mine are coloured too, not all green :)

I can confirm roar is cheaper than my local store :D

Besides that i rather support the forum than some random store, just trying to make profit.

And I appreciate the support :) 7 more sets of boards to move along to the brave souls willing to try this project :) No doubt they could have gotten you the boards faster, but me selling at cost is hard for them to compete with, they've got to make some mark-up.

I do indeed! I just cleared out some PM's, try again. Send me your name and address and I'll get you a shipping quote. The last package to Germany was $26.80 Canadian. That is without tracking to get it there the cheapest, but please don't quote me on that, I'll get you a quote in case it gets packed a little heaver or bigger.

Ok. I'm currently is the assembling-phase but a number of items can't be found. Via Mouser they are but unfortunately the shipping costs are enormous in comparision. We can't find the following:

  • Metal Film Resistors - Through Hole 1/3watt 4.02Kohms 1%. Can I use a 4.02k 0.4W of 4.02 0.25W instead?
  • Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors MLCC - Leaded 4.7uF 10volts X5R +/-10%. Can i use a tantalum-variant instead?

The other stuff is in house already but these parts are missing unfortunately. Or does anyone know where to order these in Europe other than mouser? As said before: shipping is expensive for these small parts...

For the resistor, either of those alternatives should work fine.  In fact, if you find something +/- 0.1K or so (3.9K to 4.1K), that'll work too - it doesn't have to match exactly.  I put the 4.02K on the parts list because that was the cheapest thing at Mouser in the right range.  The power rating on this particular one also isn't vital; the Mouser option happened to be 1/3W, but 1/4W or higher should work equally well.

For the capacitor, you probably want to stick with the ceramic.  Tantalum capacitors are polarized, whereas the ceramics aren't, so it would change the circuit a bit to use a polarized.  It would probably still work, since this is all DC logic circuitry, but I'd have to double-check.

But I really think you should be able to find an equivalent 4.7uF ceramic from a local shop - this is an extremely common size and type, so you really should be able to find one locally.  You don't need the exact part on the parts list; any generic 4.7uF ceramic disc capacitor will work.  And it would undoubtedly be a lot cheaper than a tantalum; those tend to be about 10x the price of the ceramics.

(Posted in wrong thread - please disregard)

Hey Mike. I've created a fan-out board to make distributing connections a little easier. What PCB foundry did you use for the boards you produced? (I've been doing a bit of research, and there are tons of options out there. Some of them have better feedback than others. I'm satisfied with the quality of your boards, so I figure that is a safe way to go.)

Thanks.

-Pat
