Time for my first stupid question of the day. The first time I got a decent score on Twilight Zone, I entered and set all three
initials successfully. Since then, the flipper (Shift) keys will select an initial, but I'll be danged if I can recall which key enters
it so I can move on to the next one. I could swear I've hit them all, including the Start (1) key, but maybe I'm just going nuts!?

GSG

Hello GSG!

Something must be disconfigured within your VP9. I used right shift key to enter my initials and confirmed each letter by pressing 1. Every-time i enter my initials i use the same process and it just works...

...what version of TZ table are you playing?

I'm gonna play some rounds of Fish Tales today but I think I'm already far behind in the race! I take my hat off to you both! I still have some busy weeks ahead with teaching courses so my VP time is sadly limited. I'll get back to playing some more I hope!

Good afternoon, Harakiri:

Maybe bolt is offering you a contract; he could sponsor you in Las Vegas for a percentage of your winnings(?) biggrin.gif You seem to
be an excellent fisherman.

Sorry to take so long replying; I've been reading the High Score Topic from the beginning and observing scores. I think that after
seeing Noah's 5.89B+/339M+ (LITZ) and your 7.96B+/409M+ (LITZ), I'm not even going to ask what anyone thinks about my mea-
ger 1B, which required the buy-in. I'll just slink back into retirement... tapping.gif

My TZ table is the VP8 version 7.3 by PacDude/Others. I don't think there's a particular version-related problem, though...I may
have mistakenly used the Enter key and then thrown a fit when it didn't work. Memory of the old days isn't sharp, though; weren't
there some tables that used the right flipper to rotate through the letters, and the left flipper to set? Not that a game as recent as
1992 would necessarily do that, anyway.

Key #1 it is...all I've got to do is break 688M+ to get the chance to try it. Congrats on your Fish Tales mastery, and thanks for your
reply. good.gif

Hello GSG!

I believe you might be experiencing some scripting bug related to that specific version of TZ table. I play Groni's version in VP9, select my initials using left or right flipper buttons and set using the "1" key. I find VP8 very inferior to VP9 in many aspects and i think you wouldn't go back if you tried as well.

Score-wise, the formula is always the same, nudge like there was no tomorrow, find loopholes and play a table until you get to master it! smile.gif

I hope it helps, good luck with your future scores!

How long did this game take to reach 3,4B? Watch out for repetitive strain injury my friend!

To add to your "how to became a highscore fiend at VP9 tables":
Learn the rulesheet! A lot of tables require specific strategies to get high scores, especially the more complex DMD-style machines from the eighties upwards. I always have the same pattern when a new table is released: I score fairly high on my first tries, when I don't know the rules yet and all I do is keep the balls in play in any way possible. Then I delve into the rules and try to go for specific shots, this is a frustrating and depressing period where I don't have mastery over the table but do know what I want from it. Hence even lower scores. After that bump in the road I usually pick up and then I get to know if I have enough feel for the table to score big. Some tables are not for me, for example Jack-Bot seems to elude me which is sad because it is still fun to play.

Well those are my 2 cents, back to fishin'
Greetings Slam23

Hey Slam!

Been reading your insight on how to master pinball tables and mine is a little bit different. My first tries at any table are always disgraceful because i play sloppy on purpose. I delve on the rulesheet and practice different game patterns, strike for multiball whenever possible. In the end it's a matter of enjoying the table or not.

Tables i don't like:

Ripley's believe it or not (i hate this table more than pop music itself)
Elvis (It's pretty all in all but it lacks some depth, or maybe it's just me that dislikes the theme)
Jack-Bot (Nasty kickers, drain fest)
Cueball Wizzard (I don't like the theme)

I´m with you on Jack/Bot being a drainfest, I´m really curious how Bolt´s strategy works for this table cause he can score on it big time! Also, although I really, really like JP´s work, I have a problem with his slingshots having ADHD and shooting balls away on the slightest contact. I know GRONI did some `mods` of JP´s work and he adjusted them to react less powerful. I would like to put that in Jack/Bot, maybe I´m gonna ask him about that. Or would you know how to do that? Nice to read about your different approach to getting highscores. I can´t play sloppy on purpose because my personality is in the way I guess. It would be good to throw away some games on just practicing shots, but I always get sucked in the whole "I scored nicely on this ball, why not try to get that high score now instead of later"-thing. I did practice a while back on LOTR but that table I can play anytime because I´m in love with the theme, the deep ruleset and the whole layout and feel of the table. So I guess we´re eventually on the same line when it comes to the matter of enjoying a table.
Happy fishin', FisherKing

Hey!

Whenever i need to configure the settings of some table i usually ask Noah's help, he's kind and patient enough to put up with my requests. I try not to mess around much with it to keep the game feel as close as the original!
I would love to hear Bolt's insight about Jack-Bot, maybe i could give it a go once more.

I'm far from being FisherKing! I'm positive that you or anyone else could easily break my highscore. I'm also waiting for that challenge! smile.gif

Play, play and play the table. This table makes me very nervous. These damn Slingshot rob me the last nerve but I try to stay cool.
I shoot mainly the ramp and then get me the points under the left ramp. I concentrate just to keep the ball in play.

I love this table, it is fast and has a great sound.

But do the slingshots behave as they should? I can't imagine that they are that hyperresponsive in the real life cabinet. Unfortunately I can't check that, only option would be to find a Youtube video of actual gameplay. I do like the table though, fun theme that has been worked out quite nicely and in an original way with the option of doubling scores, cheating etc.
