From the Newsletter ...

The entire VPF community has, for months, been asking, discussing, and debating the question, "Will Future Pinball expire, or will there be an update?"

This has brought on various methods to circumvent the expiration, which we here at VPF neither support nor condone. So, for the sake of getting to the bottom of it, I contacted Black (FP developer), and this is what he had to say ...

"Don't worry I will release a version before then ... I wont leave the community starting [the new year] without a version that they can use."

- Black

Never have so few words meant so much to the FP community. So, rest easy, continue developing the tables you're currently working on, and don't worry. By next year, this will all be history, but Future Pinball certainly won't.

Great News! Hopefully this will stop the numerous threads about this subject!

Nice to hear Black hasnt forgotten about us. Now the next question is, will the update contain anything new or just be simply a fix for the expiry, either way it will be welcome. Perhaps any agreements he had with nanotech may have expired and he might be able to release the changes he made... but thats perhaps just wishful thinking.

Chris is a good programmer. It would not be a surprise to me if FP is improved a great deal.
I would be more comfortable and optimistic if Jump Man was finished though. He got a lot of help from Randy G. on it, and it was very close to complete. The truest remake I ever saw.

Huh?

But I thought Black was Public Enemy Number One! He closed the FP forums, didn't he?

Or has that mantle passed to... oh, I forgot his name. He had the developer version of FP, right?

Yeah, probably one. But there are so many that you just have to live with them.

As far as I know, the physics were tweaked for the nanotech version, whether that version ever gets released publicly is anyone's guess.

Does anyone actually have one of the nanotech machines? They were meant to be for sale but I have no idea if any were ever distributed.

@Noah Fentz - very big thanks for the question. tup.gif
You are so right.
I love it to play with my Future Pinball Cabinet. I forget that is "only software on a display".
My dad is 57 years old, he wasn't ever a great gamer (play never pc games), try my pinball cabinet with Future Pinball and can't stop to play
Other people - all not gamers - they ask me "...that is only software, that isn't real or is it? That looks so realistic, so real!" Worship.gif

Must say "without the great table designers we would haven't it" - but without Black we would have not the platform.
For me it is the same with Linux.

Hope for a great Future for Future Pinball.
(sorry for my bad English)

While this news makes me happy, I cant say I am surprised.

I know Black loves FP, and is not the kind that would let his own baby die. I will not be surprised if the approaching release contains some nice improvements, though I know he has had other things going on that may have claimed a lot of his time, just like the rest of us.

Thanks Noah for answering the doomsayers with the truth of the matter, and thanks black for FP and your ongoing commitment.

Just wondering why does future pinball have a expiration date anyways?

As I explained earlier in this topic, the expiration date was included to force the users to use the most recent version of the program. As new features were added, new tables would be only playable on the latest version. It was easier to make people upgrade to the newest version than listen to many questions about why certain things won't work.

I see... well I hope he does more than just remove or extend the expiration date. I would make the switch from vp if it had rom support and tweeked physics! The Guy has done a amazing job so far. I don't know what happened but I hope he can look past it and press on.

You know, there's always the thought perhaps he's just moved on to something else, at least temporarily. THis is a good thing, allows one to recharge the batteries. Whatever the case, I appreciate even just an extension of the expiration date; leaves hope for the future.

I don't give a damn for the ROM support; hoping for better physics and if model importing is no longer allowed, I hope that the models thus created get imported! There are so many good ones I would really hate to see them fall by the wayside.
