This is a contest in which teams work together to create the best overall original design. The tables will be scored on the following criteria ...
  • Originality
  • Layout Quality
  • Game Rules
  • Graphics
  • Sounds
THE CONTEST is open to both programs, Future Pinball and Visual Pinball. They will be scored in two different categories. There must be at least three teams in each category for there to be prizes awarded. Anyone can enter.

THE TEAMS must consist of no fewer than 2 and no more than 4 members.

THE TABLES may be of any theme or era. The content can vary from rated 'G' to rated 'R'. Nothing pornographic, please.

SCREENSHOTS must be submitted to Contests every 5 days to ensure the tables are not already a WIP and to create a cool morph of your work as it progresses when finished. Please do not post WIPs! Only I, Noah Fentz, will be privy to the screenshots to avoid discussion that could affect the outcome of the scoring.

THESE TABLES MUST BE STARTED after the registration closes, no sooner, no exceptions.

REGISTRATION will 'close' the moment we have three or more teams in a given category. New teams may join afterward, but will obviously have less time to complete their table.

THE JUDGING of the tables will be done privately, by our staff, without discussion. We will score the tables on the above criteria on a scale of 1-10 in each category. The points will be added up to determine an overall score. VPF Staff, of course, cannot participate in this contest.

In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by a panel of VIP Members not involved in the contest in the same manner as detailed above. Please do not turn this into a discussion of how it should work. These are the rules! If any confusion arises regarding the rules, rule interpretations are left solely to the VPF Staff.

Bear in mind you have only the month of AUGUST, so keep your submissions simple to manage and complete. Part of this challenge is to experience the 'crunch' of deadlines many designers faced and the necessity of working as a team.

At this time, please post your team name and members, so we can get this one started!

oh that sounds so cool! I can't wait to see what tables are developed due to a time constraint! and multiple peoples on each as well! many of us original authors tend to work alone (with a little help here and there)

Sounds like a fun concept to spur on some new tables Noah. I'm going on vacation for 2 weeks this month, so I'll have to pass on this round. I'm hoping it does well enough that the opportunity comes up again. Best of luck to all who get involved with this contest.

well I started my table this morning before I heard about this so is it eligible? Not that my first table ever would win but ya know smile.gif

well I started my current wip last nite, (yeah half done in one 24 hour period!) but I would think it would have to be a joint effort even on the design of the table so i wouldn't think that either yours or mine should be eligible...

Surely it doesn't matter what the "rules" are, or who's in what team - the idea is that it's a bit of FUN - if it ain't fun, don't play!

Working on the assumption that discussing how the teams should be recruited and generated isn't the same as discussing how the contest itself should be run (correct me if I'm wrong), I suppose the thing to do first would be to compile a list of people who would be interested in the contest and what skills they can bring to the collective table.

Everyone has to recruit their own teams in their own manner.

I don't see why this always has to turn into a discussion of how it should be done.

Just DO it, if you want to participate, otherwise it'll just get beat to death with non-productive posts.

If you're not looking for a team, don't post.

Let's get this back on track. I am still currently looking for a team. Preferably I would like to be working with FP since I have used it for the last 4-5 years and I know it inside and out, but I am adaptable to working in VP as well. My strongest area is in generating ideas and working with a table layout. I have decent abilities in Photoshop with editing preexisting images but cannot do anything from scratch at all. Post here or send me a PM if you are interested in letting me join a team.

If anyone forms a VP team, contact me via pm, I'm currently using all of my (very limited) spare time on my High Speed WIP, but I can lend a hand and do some original artwork for the VP team if given a scanned sketch or drawing or something. (don't ask me to script 'cause I'm terrible at it at the moment)

With the time constraints the contest imposes, creating realistic layouts quickly on the fly and rulesets to go with them would be my strongest point, if I have a strong idea to work from.

Well, you're not asking me, but I think if there weren't any time contraints, how would the contest ever be able to be ended? I could work on a table if I wasn't on staff, for 10 years, and the judging wouldn't be able to be done until my team's table was finished. ? maybe? And how would anyone know that you hadn't started said game 10 years ago - without the imposed rules the way they are? I'm not saying that everyone would cheat, but the rules make sense to minimize that possibility.

If you have a team or the beginnings of one, it would be a good idea to post something. I'd like to know where we are on team-forming.

Keep in mind, guys, we aren't looking for perfection. We're looking to see what you can do as a team in the time frame allotted. This is for fun, and we're not going to criticize on how great your table is, but how well you performed as a team under time constraints.

I thought it would be fun, since real teams had deadlines. You can experience something similar and have some fun with it.

I have an idea for a theme for a table. I am also available! I think if we just post a table from the get go and repost it as we are building on it that should show that we are indeed building them from scratch! i have no problem with wipping out tables real fast, as I am currently out of work due to a hip injury and will be at least till my doctors appointment on the 12th! So I have an ace up my sleeve as this means I can spend all day on it! biggrin.gif just letting everyone know...i know i am not the best coder, hell far from it, but I persevere and with help i think we can get some kick-ass tables out there (yoohoo... calling Itchigo, practice dummy,...any takers?)
