Greetings,

Trying to use new file structure but can't seem to get the path right. Did a lot of searching for help, but no luck. Current attempt:

C:\USERS\DLK\DOCUMENTS\TABLES

        \24

        24 (Stern 2009) v.2.4.vpx

            \PINMAME

                 \ROMS

                  twenty4_150.zip

The path in PINMAME is set to: C:\USERS\DLK\DOCUMENTS\TABLES but testing returns the "ROM set is missing" message.

TIA for any suggestions.

DD.

Hi

The default Path is:

C:\Visual Pinball\Vpinmame\Roms

C:\Visual Pinball\Tables

I would not change these default path

also, you can try run Vpinmame Setup64.exe. There, you can change some of them

Hi,

Appreciate the reply, but I'm attempting so set things up under the new scheme in 8.0.1 where there is a separate folder for each table which contains the ROMs. NVRAM, music, etc.

Thanks,

DD

I've always heard that you never use any "system provided" folders for installing anything VP related (so I don't).

This means no use of C:\Users\  ,  C:\Program Files\  ,  C:\Program Files (x86)\  , etc ...

Weird (sounds like the Batocera way) but whatever ...

Try C:\VPX\  ,  or C:\VPX801\  ,,, something like that   ... generic or specific as you choose.

Your setting isn't looking all wrong, might be a plugin that you haven't enabled ? I myself has not yet bothered to adopt to this scheme yet. I will the day that I abandon windows for good. Seems m$ forces that day to come soon.

In this case, have you enabled the pinmame plugin ? That is what the doc says it needs. Btw. this is still to be considered beta and I don't recommend that you fully convert to 10.8.1 just yet. For experimentation though, go at it.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Thanks for all the replies.

Thalamus - Yes, the GitHub link is what I'm using for reference and PinMame 3.6 is enabled per the instructions.

Still tweaking/searching, but no joy yet.

Will update if/when progress is made.

If you're using the windows build (can you post the EXACT build you downloaded?) the plugins are all disabled by default. You need to enable all the ones you want to use. But your folder structure looks correct.

Here's the link for the version I'm using:

https://github.com/v....1-3788-2151290

and, here's part of the VPinballX.ini enabling PinMame:

-------------------------------------

; # Plugin settings

[Plugin.PinMAME]
[Default: 1]
Enable = 1
PinMAMEPath = C:\VPinX81\VPINMAME
Cheat =
Sound =

------------------------------------

After setting the Path in VPinMame, I try to load the ROM via Test, but it can't be found.

And yes, only attempting to get one table running...

This is a severely outdated build. You need to download 10.8.1 from the "actions" menu in GitHub and the download links only become available once you log in with a free GitHub account.

To download the latest - you first will have to create a github.com account.

This is free.

When that it in place. Go to ...

https://github.com/vpinball/vpinball

In the top of that page ... there are several menus. All you need to do is click the 'Actions' button.

What will happen next is that you will see each commit that has been created ... that is a developer who has changed something and via so called github actions - new versions are built. I recommend that you pick the first one that says 'master' as blue text behind. The blue text is called a branch. Not very important for end users who want to test things though.

IF you press that link ... and are logged in. You can scroll down and get the version you want. I recommend ... looking for BGFX .. windows and x64 and release. Those are the words that should be found in the download link as long as you actually ARE running windows.

BE AWARE THOUGH !

VPX 10.8.1 has many changes. You should NOT overwrite your current working setup. It is now designed so that you can exacts it to eg. c:\beta\ or whatever. VP itself is self contained and if you extract it over your current setups - a backup might very well be something you wish you made. I recommend that you don't extract it to typical system folders but instead create a simple folder under c:\ ... d:\ or whatever drive you have.

What I'm currently using is ....

D:\Downloads\VPX_10_8_1\2026-07-03\VPinballX_BGFX-10.8.1-5272-eaef67158-windows-x64-Release

I just download a new version - make a sub folder with todays date, put the zip there and extract it. That way I can more easily go back in time and maybe help the devs explaining where something broke or got fixed if needed.

Of course, there are other versions there, for different operating systems and hardware.

Comments from a launcher I wrote - 2023-10-06 For Standalone - Added pinmame path to ~.vpinball/VPinballX.ini for it to find the roms and other files.

So inside my /home/ron/.vpinball/VPinballX.ini is where I set

PinMAMEPath = /home/ron/Pinball/VisualPinball

I have my pinmame files in my visualpinball folder (including roms folder) and all works well.

Find your vpinballx.ini and set the path there.

Hope this helps.

You don't have to build anything, just download from the actions page

Thank you for your latest replies. Unfortunately, I'm still stuck.

I logged into GitHub and navigated to https://github.com/vpinball/vpinball

I select "Actions" and land on the page "All Workflows".

I click on the first item tagged "master" [Fix Build"] which takes me to a page with the header "vpinball" and contains a "Release" link. Selecting that presents a list of releases, but the latest one is from July '25.

What am I missing?

@Diamondman

If want reliable version, keep on 10.80 Release 2051. 10.81 are in beta and not reliable.

The version BGFX not work properly. Backglass not showing anytime for me.

I play in 3D mode that is not working. Black svreen in any 3D mode.

We need to wait a little bit I think.

Can you send a print about your Paths?

Which plugins are talking?

I could not understand what does it mean

If you follow my directions ... you will find it. I said - scroll down after clicking a link that contains master. Actually, if you do that right now some jobs have failed. That is why the icon might be red, it means that not all "flavors" of the build went through. It can be that a linux build has failed, an android or windows - whatever. One of those has failed. But if you follow my guide and there is a release when you scroll down that is named what I said before, you can get that to have the latest and greatest ... well - sometime it isn't ... but, that's development releases for you. :)

Thalamus: I did follow your instructions from your earlier email - I just didn't scroll down far enough to get to the Assets section.

Got the latest build now, and am going back to see if I can resolve my initial issue.

@diamondDan

Yeah

I just download the Thalamus version.

2D version works at moment and BG too

A bit hard to set on table runtime with F12. Looks like Reshade menu.

At least, It works fine 2D for me at moment.

Feedback:

The version Run only for the first time.

Second time, try to start the table and then close the programm.
