Hello,

As the Topic Title states, DOF is only working on Visual Pinball and DOFLinx doesn't appear to be working on any other system.

My systems are:

Visual Pinball - DOF Works

Future Pinball - Nothing

Pinball FX2 - Nothing

Pinball FX2 - Nothing

Pinball FX - Nothing

Pinball M - Nothing

Zaccaria - Nothing

DofLinx loads just fine with no error messages and I'm using the same settings I used on my last drive, but I decided to start fresh and make sure all my software was up to date, get VP 10.8, etc, and now DOFLinx doesn't appear to be working at all and DOF only works on Visual Pinball.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated as I don't know where to begin troubleshooting.

Thanks!

In my above post, I said there were no errors.

I hadn't yet fully tested Future Pinball.

I don't know if this post should go in this thread or a Future Pinball thread because it's only happening with Future Pinball and DOFLinx.

No matter which game I select in Future Pinball, when DOFLinx is running, I get an error message stating Unhandled Exception Error and it talks about DOFLinx.  I can click continue and the table will still load but then it closes DOFLinx.

Please help.  I don't have a clue what could be causing this.

Thanks!

Can you detail the error?  Is it a DOFLinx or FP error?

Can you detail the error?  Is it a DOFLinx or FP error?

It's definitely a DOFLinx error because it mentions DOFLinx 3 or 4 times and when I close the dialog box, the DOFLinx process is gone/ended, then Future Pinball continues to load.

I have an update as well.  I have it working properly on Pinball FX, and it works great!  That's the ONLY system that I can get it to work on, though.  I've tried FX2, FX3, Pinball M (The option to turn DOFLinx on isn't even shown in the program like it is for Pinball FX), and Zacarria and none of them respond or do anything, however, there are no error messages on anything but Future Pinball.

Since Pinball FX works perfectly, and I'm using my DOFLinx.ini file from my previous build when everything worked for all systems, I'm stuck and don't know what else to try or do.

Please help if you can and thank you so much for this awesome program and the time and effort you dedicate to making it and to helping with tech support.  You are much appreciated.

Still need the detail of that error as a first step.

I have tried literally everything I know and every option I can see and I cannot figure out how to attach a JPG file to a post.  Can you tell me how to do that?  If so, I would be happy to take a screenshot of the full error so you can read it for yourself.

Thanks so much.

Still need the detail of that error as a first step.

I think I figured out how to post images.  The error is VERY long and the window it's in isn't resizable so I only scrolled down about 1/4 of the way and took 5 pictures showing everything from the beginning of the error to about a quarter of the way down.

If you need to see more of the error, let me know, and I'll scroll down further and take more pictures.

As soon as I clicked quit, DOFLinx was closed, but it didn't go into the game, either.  The backglass and DMD were showing but not the table.

Here are the pictures.

doflinxerror20_t.jpg

doflinxerror30_t.jpg

doflinxerror40_t.jpg

Let's see if I did it right and you can see the images and read the text.  They should be in order from the top of the error message down.

Thanks,

Just one note to Zen's FX2, FX3 and M - only the official steam-based versions are supported by doflinx. No other ("offline") versions.
Zaccaria have no doflinx support at all.

As last option you could use the "fallback" of doflinx.ini to use dof effect for the shift keys (mostly use as flipper buttons)

Additional Note to FP: try Pinevent tables by Terry Red - these tables use Dof natively. NO need of doflinx for these!

Hello,

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I was using an older (few years) DOFLinx version less than a week ago before I decided to "upgrade" everything and DOFLinx worked GREAT on my FX2 and FX3 "offline" setup.

So are you sure they won't work now?

If that's the case, can you tell me when that changed, because I'll have to try to find a copy of the last DOFLinx version that did support "offline" FX2 and FX3 tables as I really miss the DOF effects on all those tables, especially FX3.

Thanks,

Are you running FP as "administrator" ?   The issue is that DOFLinx does not have permission to the FP process.  This is usually due to running FP with upgraded privileges while DOFLinx is running as your normal user.  The best solution is running nothing with special permissions.  You can work around by running DOFLinx as "administrator" but that is not my recommendation.  Running anything with elevated privilages will lead to issues sooner or later.

Ultimately its a Windows permission issue.

Hello,

No, I'm not running anything as administrator.

Do you have any suggestions on how I could fix this permission issue?  I have absolutely no idea where to begin.

I have all anti-virus and defender turned completely off and it's a Windows 10 build, BTW.

Thanks,

Check where you have FP.EXE installed.  Is it a user folder with general permissions, or is it below the Windows structure with system permissions?

Within DOFLinx the System.IO.FileInfo is failing with the Access Denied response.  Google that call getting Access Denied and you will find some help.

No, it's installed on a totally separate partition on the hard drive.  Windows resides on C: and all my Pinball stuff resides on E:.

Ok, I'll Google right now and see if I can figure it out then report back.

Thank you again.

I Googled it and did every step they said to do and still got access denied errors when trying to add permissions for "Everyone" in the appdata directory which is one of the recommendations they gave on the Google search.  I don't know what else to try considering I tried everything that came up as a possible fix.

I just plugged in an external drive I have where I started to create a Future Pinball installation with several tables but then never got around to installing more than a dozen tables or so and gave up.

I just found that hard drive so I plugged it in, went to the Future Pinball directory on that drive (Drive F:) launched FPLoader.exe from the BAM folder, loaded a game, and everything worked fine.

I was thinking about just copying everything over to my new drive from the old drive, but then I'm stuck with the old file versions of everything and won't be able to run the Pinevent tables and newest tables out there, according to TerryRed.

As I say, its a Windows permission thing and I'm not an expert in that area.  I wonder if the old drive has ownership of the user who wrote the files originally, not the current user.  A few thoughts  to try and move forward .....

1.  Don't just assign everyone permission, also take ownership of the files and folder

2. Try copying the FP EXE directory to your new drive and run one table as a test with DOFLinx, does it then work?

3. Try manually starting DOFLinx as "administrator" as a test to see if the error goes away.  This will confirm if its permissions.

I did step number one exactly as you said.

I copied my old setup from my old drive to my new drive and now Future Pinball is working without any errors, but the problem is, I'm running very old files.  I tried only updating the BAM folder and nothing else and when I did that, Future Pinball now loads the game, waits 5 seconds, then crashes, so I'm thinking it has something to do with BAM but I'm not sure.

I copied the old BAM folder back over from my old drive and while Future Pinball is working now, DOFLinx still isn't working.

I'm using the EXACT same DOFLinx.ini file I used on my previous build where DOFLinx worked just fine.

Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

DOFLinx not triggering with FP or the same crash you had previously?

Both.

Two different directories/installs of FP.

Old drive's FP folder copied over to new drive, everything works except DOFLinx, but there are no error messages.

Brand new install in brand new directory with nothing in it, followed every step in the guide one by one religiously and still get the same error.  I click quit to quit DOFLinx then the table loads and shows itself for 5 seconds then crashes and everything disappears.

Thanks,

This is the scenario that we should chase.  Can create a log file with the working FP version? https://doflinx.gith...Create_Log.html

UPDATE!

I have a major update to share with you and @TerryRed.

I ended up finding one of his AIO packs from March of this year, installed it in a fresh "Future Pinball" directory, followed every step, and now when I load a game I get absolutely no crashing.

However, I also have a major update on DOFLinx.  I found out simply by happenstance that if I simply double click FPLoader.exe from the BAM folder to open Future Pinball, then select a table, there are "0" errors and DOFLinx keeps running.

But... If I load a table through Pinup Popper, I get that same error every single time.  If I click quit, it exits DOFLinx and continues loading the table and still does NOT Crash and you can then play the table with no problems.

So the error is being caused by something in Pinup Popper.  Now I have absolutely no idea where to go from here.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
