Now that I have my Avro Arrow Tribute table and King Tut MOD table released, I'm starting to work on Stern's Meteor in VP9 as a 4x3 and FS release. I have received permission from MartinB to use the playfield and plastics from his Amazing FP version of Meteor so I will use them as a template to re-draw them all.

I have started by separating the playfield out into layers by color at 2048 x 4096 resolution and I will be touching up all the tiniest details as best I can.

Here is a WIP in full resolution, but saved as a .JPG for space considerations. (The green background is so that I can easily find the holes that need to be filled in.)

Best Regards,
Todd.

I'm glad to see people are interested in seeing Meteor. Please be patient with me since the level of detail in this playfield is much higher than that of King Tut. (I could have gone crazy and tried to re-draw everything in King Tut but I was willing to accept KT the way it came out.) As good as MartinB's playfield is, I hope I can make it a few percent better. If I think I'm making it worse, I'll abandon the redrawing of the playfield and just use MartinB's work.

Best Regards,
Todd.

I know it's been a while since I was working on Meteor, so I did some work on it tonight and I thought I'd throw you all a bone. Here's another WIP screenshot. I haven't worked on the playfield redraw so this is with Martin Brunker's playfield for the time being. I hope to get out of this creative slump/depression/whatever-you-call-it and get back on track. (yeah, I feel a bit ashamed because I haven't been paying attention to the 90's workshop in the past few weeks either and I know WTIGER is making great progress there too.) I hope I recover from this soon.

Best Regards,
Todd.

Some more progress in since my last post. I have "finished" my re-touching of Martin's beautiful Meteor FP playfield in the gimp at 2048x4096 and I finished rubberizing the posts. Here is a new screeny. I hope you enjoy it. biggrin.gif

Best Regards,
Todd.

Work on Meteor is progressing slowly, but surely. I have placed all the plastics and the top cover, the apron, and the plunger cover. I have also placed all of the targets. I was able to brighten up the fireball image from Martin Brunker's original table and import it as a new layer into my re-drawn play-field image. If you look at my previous screen shot and compare it with this one, I think you'll agree, the new, brighter fireball image looks much better now. I must state, If it weren't for Martin's FP Meteor textures, I wouldn't have attempted to rebuild Meteor in VP9.

One of the other tasks still to finish on the playfield is to re-visit wtiger's tutorial for id4 to install all of the table lights.

After the lights are done, the next step will be to analyze photographs of Meteor and the VP8 tables and try to model the top two yellow pop-bumpers in VP9 to make them look as close to the originals as possible. I am trying to avoid using decals on them in an attempt to make Meteor as angle independent as possible. If I were to use decals to make the yellow pop-bumper covers, the Fullscreen conversion wouldn't look right since the angle would be incorrect. I am going to take a similar approach that TAB & JP do for their tables that have the "squarish" style of pop-bumpers on them.

Best Regards,
Todd.

p.s. if anyone has a tutorial how to maintain image sharpness when scaling the playfield & plastics down to 1024, please send it my way.

It looks great Todd. I would like to test the FS version if you eventually need a tester.
