Hey,

i recently switched from a NVIDIA 970 to a AMD RX 6700 XT and now i´m noticing missing textures a few specific tables:

- MM skitso mod and reloaded 1.0 - textures of the troll covers are missing: https://imgur.com/a/osExRsO https://imgur.com/a/okfPZsW

- CC VPW and TTNZ - texture below the mine is missing: https://imgur.com/a/xA4TGZ1

my video settings: https://imgur.com/a/UaG3TcU

I already tried enabling "alternative depth buffer processing" - textures are still missing.

I am running Windows 10 21H1 and AMD drivers 21.7.2.

How can I solve this? Am I missing a specific AMD setting?

I do not see anything wrong with your VPX settings except

You dont actually have alt depth buffer checked

And you can enable screen space and ambient occlusion update ingame
and if you like, ball trail/motion blur

and if you have a cab, you might check exclusive full screen

Though i dont think those will change you issue.

What settings do you have in catalyst?

I dont have anything special set in the catalyst settings - i´m running the "standard" global graphics profil.

Any other ideas? :(

It's pink
Almost looks like a missing material ?

Dont think it is an AMD thing specifically?
I have never run across that

You said you had upgraded graphics cards?
I wonder if it did not exactly upgrade cleanly or something?

as this is only a problem on a few specific vpx tables i would say yes ;)

any other ideas are welcome ...

if any amd user are reading this - which driver version are you using?

Have you tried turning on "Alternate Depth Buffer processing"? This is almost a must for AMD cards.

as I wrote in my first post - yes

sadly the setting does not change anything.

i even thought that maybe the registry setting is not enabled by the GUI, but "UseNVidiaAPI" is set to 1 if I enable Alternate Depth Buffer processing.

so it has to be something else.

Spiderman is really funky, but that is not any known bugaboo with AMD stuff or anything.

I would almost want to do a clean scrub of AMD drivers etc using their cleaner
And reinstall the drivers, and maybe reinstall DX9 just because, and see what happens

I cleaned the AMD driver with DDU and big surprise - using the "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" Driver:

Spiderman playfield has a texture again: https://i.imgur.com/UNS1dMU.png

sadly I can confirm its related to the AMD Drivers - tried the current recommended one 21.6.1 and the latest one 21.8.2. Both have the graphical problems.

Is there anyway to get vpx to output logs to further troubleshoot the problem?

That is strange, as i have the latest drivers on my desktop and do not have this issue at all

what if you jump back to the 19 or 20 drivers for giggles?

i cant go back really far as 21.3.1 is the first driver which added support for the RX 6700

Not really sure what is going on there as i know other people have RX6000 series GPUs and i have not heard this mentioned

Try testing something

In VPX video prefs, disable everything as if you were setting it to run on a potato of a PC

turn off everything except alt depth buffer, leave that checked, and check to force disable bloom

drag texture size to the lowest, drag detail to the lowest turn off screen space ambient occlusion etc

See if you get the same results

If you do not, go one setting at a time, bringing it back to max
test running the bad table between each setting change, and see what setting brings the issue back, it might shed some light on the cause

If trying that makes no change post back, i will try to thing of what else you can try.

Ok, so does not appear to be a vpx setting at all

Ok, lets make a catalyst profile for VisualpinballX.exe

And then disable everything in that profile

Vsyn, Freesync FSAA morphological FSAA, anisotropic, tuen everything off or down as far as it goes for the things that dont go off

Also, grab this

Download DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010) from Official Microsoft Download Center

and reinstall that (Make sure to run installer with admin rights)

As VPX is a DX9 application, it could be that some part of DX9 got chewed up at some point.

Now try vpx with that new catalyst profile
see if it makes any difference at all?

thanks again - here are the results:

- created a catalyst profile with everything disabled for the "VPinballX.exe"

- reinstalled the dx runtime

= no changes

as I could not find a "force dx9" startup parameter for the VPinballX.exe I configured it through dxcpl: https://imgur.com/a/s7lHnbm

= no changes :(

VPX wont start up any other way but DX9 anyways.

Not really sure what is going on there though.

I have latest drivers, but different card
Other people here have RX6700's and RX6900's but they have not run into that issue
or there would be lots of posts about it.

You said it went away when you removed catalyst and driver

What if, as a test, you remove that again

and then let windows pull the OEM drivers from windows updates
just to see if there is any change?

I mean you could back up the VPX registry key, and then delete it, which would in effect reset every aspect of VPX

and then try it just to see if any difference is made, on the very off chance it is a corrupt reg entry or something

dont know that doing so will accomplish much, but as long as you export the reg key, you can simply re-import it to put everything back

so while it may not help, it can cause no harm

I have tried a bunch of the advanced settings in amd, tried playing with all the video settings in VP. Made sure i was on the latest 10.7 beta. Reinstalled all of vp. Tried in windowed mode. Without drivers. old drivers, new drivers. I noticed this on Congo. I have vp on two machines. One my main rig, and a side project i have in the garage. The main rig got upgraded to an AMD 6700xt. The other rig stayed at an nvidia. No problems on nvidia. 1080ti, 1650, 1050, 750.  I have tried all those cards. All work. 6700xt amd, No go. Which sucks, because i love this card. I have also noticed it is only taking place on VPW tables. I think they are using some newer feature of 10.7 beta that is not compatible with the AMD drivers. Not sure, but that is my hunch.  I have not seen it on any table but a VPW table. I will check my skitsoo medieval table. I haven't tried that yet, but i know he is part of VPW, so maybe they could lend a hand in this? I will reach out to them.  They are good people.

LTD Alien Warrior (1983) - VPForums.org

See if any textures go missing?

If that seems ok

Try this version of medieval madness

Medieval Madness (Williams 1997)_Bigus(MOD) - VPForums.org
