DOFLinx / FX3 help please

I am building a cabinet with PinUp Popper, VPX, FP, and FX3.
I've got VP and FP working with dB2S and Plunger/Nudge working, but I am struggling with FX3 Animated BackGlass and Plunger/Nudge using x360ce.

 

First, I setup FX3 Animated BackGlass (several times). I've had it working about 10 times in the last 2 weeks, then after some period (sometimes 1 game, sometimes multiple games over a period of a couple days and multiple reboots) it stops working again. I don't know what is causing it to fail. I usually have to delete all files/folders in DirectOutput folder and reboot. I haven't found the root-cause yet.

I've read the Guide for DOFLinx, Active Backglass and No Toys post multiple times and it works, then it doesn't.

Once I get this resolved, what is the trick to 3 screen, FX3 with no Grill? (like I said, it works fine for VPX and FP).  Is this something that should be set with editing B2STableSettings?  I thought I could right click the BG like VPX, but it's not letting me click (ie: focus).  I've read and searched MANY posts, but can't find a good solution.
 
And finally, I installed x360ce (btw, I'm using a kl25z / PinScape Lite board) and have configured it based on posts, but not getting any response for plunger or nudge.
 
I would greatly appreciate your help.  I've had VP & FP installed on my Arcade for over 10 years, but upgrading to a dedicated VP cabinet is exciting. This has been my 'Rona Project for keeping my sanity!

Howdy.  Its a fun journey and I'm sure we can get you working.  I can help with some of this, I'm sure others will help with some other bits.

 

Firstly, you appear to have toys, ie a Pinscape and a LEDWiz.  Why have you decided to follow the "... Active Backglass no toys" guide / path?  If you did intend to follow that then you have missed the command line parameter for no toys.  This is a command line parameter to go in your Windows shortcut for DOFLinx.  Of course this only makes sense if you don't intend to be running any solenoids, flashers, RGB lighting, etc.

 

This line in the log is odd. "10-Nov-20 23:10:34.135 - Failed to attach to process handle = 0"  I've seen it before but can't recall the solution.  Usually not being able to attach to a process implies a permission issue.  Are you trying to run anything with "run as admin", if so don't, nothing needs it anymore.  The other thing to check is that DOFLinx appears to be trying to attach twice ....

What do you have on your PROCESSES= parameter line in DOFLinx.INI.  Perhaps post that file here too.

DDH69, THANKS SO MUCH for your quick response.  And Thanks for all of your work to make these cool toys work & talk to each other!  You are a legend in my book!

 

Yes, I have PinScape (Lite) but I don't have LEDWiz so I'm not sure how that was set.
I watched the "No Toys" video and since I didn't have any Toys (I didn't know PinScape counted) I thought this was appropriate. I'd like to add LED later, but figured I would upgrade as I learn more, but if there is a better INI, I'd prefer it now so I'm set for future upgrade.

I added the start-up shortcut to have “PATH_INI=C:\DirectOutput\DOFLinx_INI\ DISABLEDOF=YES” (but didn't understand what this was doing). At this stage I'm just following directions.

 

The line:  Failed to attach to process handle = 0, alarmed me, but I didn't know what this meant yet.

 

I will post the "PROCESSES= parameter line" when I'm back at the VP Cabinet in the morning.

 

And again, THANKS for your help.  (feels like Bill Gates help me with an MS error.  LOL)

Glad you're having fun ... that's why I do it!

 

Makes sense why you are using the "No toys" option.  Given you have a Pinscape you could use DISABLEDOF=YES or not for no toys.  The option is there for people who don't have output hardware.  Either way, the option is not being processed for some reason.  If it was DOFLinx would not try and detect any output boards, ie Pinscape and LEDwiz, etc.  So, maybe you're not starting DOFLinx using the shortcut?

 

The LEDWiz is likely the Pinscape emulation of a LEDWiz.  You can turn that on or off in the Pinscape software.  The default LEDWiz device when emulated is #8, yours is showing as ID=0, so you must have adjusted that at some stage.  Its no problem either way for DOFLinx, just be aware that you have an emulated LEDWiz device - if you don't want / need one, then turn it off.

 

I'm sure I'll see the INI when you get it posted and either myself or someone around here will be able to help.

Really appreciate your help. This has been driving me crazy for a couple weeks.

I'm open (and would actually prefer to start over) if it would help. To tell you the truth, I've tried so many fixes and changes that I'm concerned I've mixed strategies (ie: No Toys and LedWiz??).

 

Here is my current DOFLinx.INI

This is the command I added to the INI shortcut:

I placed the shortcut here, to execute at startup and it is the only one (I removed it and DOFLinx didn't run (trying to understand why it is starting twice).

And the weird thing, when I restarted it to get a fresh DOFLinx Log, the BGs WORK NOW!!??  (when I created the log last night in the previous post, the BGs were NOT Working.    Argh, so frustrating.

 

I launched PinUp Popper and played 1 ball in Attack from Mars.  Looks like it is working well (for now, until it mysteriously stops working again).  Also why is it referencing

  "Failed to find FX3 configuration file WMSFunHouse.FX3" and "Processing parameter 'FF_ROM' with data 'FX2_ALIENS' in real-time" at the very bottom of the log?  I don't have either of them installed and no FX2 tables at all.

 

Once all of this is digested, still trying to remove the grill/DMD from the backglass.

Well if things are working there is little to diagnose until they don't !  In general all looks good.  I wonder if on occasion you are exiting DOFLinx then starting it back up not from the shortcut.  That would have the effect of DISABLE_DOF=YES not being processed like I saw in the earlier log.  A reboot is then forcing it to start from the shortcut and all is well again. 

 

At the base of the log the FX2_ALIENS ROM is loaded because its loaded the DEFAULT.FX3 file with WMSFunhouse.FX3 missing.  Have you loaded all of the FX3 files into your C:\DirectOutput\DOFLinx_FX3\ folder?  If not you should.  You are certainly missing WMSFunhouse.FX3.  Even if you don't own the game, the FX3 file will be sought out as you move over the menu.  The system will work just fine with it missing, but best to keep it neat.

 

A number of the ROMs that get loaded for FX3 games have FX2 names, that's just fine, I didn't rewrite / rename them all for FX3.

 

Overall, other than perhaps a missing FX3 file, all looks good.

I'll post the log when it fails again.
I've had experienced playing a table 2 or 3 times in a row, then the BG disappeared (same game and didn't exit FX3 or PinUp Popper).

I'll also look at adding the new FX3 tables.

Run FX3 in Window Borderless
Nudge/Plunger  -- USE x360ce Version 3.x  https://www.vpforums...e=2#entry413506

Put this in the DOFLinx.ini file DEBUG=1
Restart DOFLinx when the window opens right click for test menu for B2S
Then you will be able to run the back glass and right click it
Make sure you save it then go in though XML file and just duplicated for each backglass --- I think this will work

I changed FX3 settings to Windows Borderless (Is this correct? I thought I was initially told to set it to Full Screen(?). I also loaded the missing WMSFunHouse file.

I'm already running the latest version of x360ce (v3.2.10.82 for 32-bit games)  Guessing this is for the Nudge/Plunger issue. For now I'd like to take these one at a time, finishing the removal of the Grill/DMD from the BackGlass. Then I'll tackle the Nudge/Plunger.

I changed the DOFLinx.ini file DEBUG=1.
Opened the test menu for B2S.
 
Not clear how to open the backglass (right click what?)
  "Make sure you save it then go in though XML file and just duplicate for each backglass"
Are you saying to manually duplicate it for each table/backglass (I have a lot of tables)?  Can you be more specific, please?
 
 
I've tried to read this process several times and get lost with all of the generalities (this looks targeted to VPX, hitting F1 and unclicking DMDs). I do have it working for VPX and I have already gone into those BGs (right click) and removed the grills / DMD.
Can you point me to a specific set of instructions for FX3? I still can't get focus to right-click the BG. I believe I've tried everything included, but I'm open to retrying it if there is something specific I missed.

Also, is there a link or description that explains all of the options/settings set on the B2S screen (if I can ever get it to appear for FX3).

If you do your set up like I have in here your grill will disappear automatically for games that use the B2S server (As far is I know)

When using an animated backglass with FX3 just like VPX

When using the test menu for the B2S it will start the back glass then you can right click it,  But if you do what I have above I don't think you have to worry about that

Well, I determined today that the grills for the Zen tables are not there (I hadn't noticed this before, as I enjoy the Originals and play them more often), but all of the Bally & Williams table still have grills/DMD.

Somehow during my continued attempts to resolve this issue, I have lost the DOFLinx Window, so I can't launch any of the Test activities.

I went back and completely rebuilt the DirectOutput folder with the new version again, but still no Window.

 

Can someone Please review my Log and see if there is anything that stands out that would help me re-activate the DOFLinx Window?

I have Debug set to "1", but I think it is not directly DOFLinx related. I'm concerned I accidently set something, but I don't know what it is.

You will have to go into windows registry and search for  -   DOFLinx
Sometimes the location for that window will get out of whack you need to set the X and Y Back to 0

Thanks for the recommendation, but no improvement.  Still no DOFLINX Window.

 

I changed \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\DOFLINX  Main_X  and Main_Y  reset to 0.

 

Sorry for all the questions and troubles. I wish I understood this better, Thanks for your assistance.

Just delete the DOFLinx tree in the registry, this will then force windows to open the DOFLinx window according to "standard" Windows rules ..... obviously be careful when editing the registry to not damage anything else unintentionally.

Thanks for the advice, but still no DOFLinx Window.

I deleted the DOFLinx tree in registry, and it recreated it and reset it to 0 and I'm still getting a Debug Log, but no Window(?)

(Do I need to delete the DirectOutput also??)

 

Appreciate your help, this has been very frustrating.  Thanks Again!!

Please let me know if I'm missing something or doing it wrong.

Given that Main_Y is set at 2092 I'm not sure your delete did what you thought it did.  The 2092 means that DOFLinx has been closed with DOFLinx 2092 pixels down on screen 0, so unless you have a 4k screen in portrait tou are not going to see that window!

 

I'd suggest either, set the Main_Y to 0, or again delete the entire tree.  Perhaps try Main_Y = 0 first.

I originally set both Main_Y and Main_X to 0 and that was the previous post.

Then I deleted it in the registry, rebooted and it was set to 0. Then I cleared the Log, rebooted, and posted the results, so something is setting it to that value(?)

I can try it again.

 

Yes, I have a 4k, but I thought it is landscape and rotated 270.  So is this displaying it out of scope of the Playfield?

If you agree, I'll retry deleting, resetting Main_Y to 0 and confirm it again. Not sure why it jumped to 2002(?)

No problem.  Always happy to help, and I always learn something new that leads to improvements.

 

Definitely work trying to set it to zero, and if that doesn't work remove the DOFLinx branch entirely.  If the branch is absent the DOFLinx main window opens in the Windows default position, the positional settings are saved at exit.  Of course make sure you have DEBUG=1 to see all of this.

I spent about 2 hours on this tonight.  Something is FUBAR.

I reset Main_Y to 0 about 10 times and can't get it to stick.  Main_X, no problem, stays at 0.

Tried resetting and deleting DOFLinx branch multiple times. When I reboot, it still shows 0, but as soon as I execute DOFLinx.exe, it resets to 2092(?).  Also tried Refreshing it and End Task DOFLinx and re-executing, bam 2092 again.

If I Alt-Tab, I can see the DOFLinx Window, but can't Focus on it or stick it to the desktop.

 

About to pull my hair out!  PLEASE help.  I'm going to Google it tomorrow, but done with it tonight.

 

The DOFLinx Window was working last week, then disappeared and I don't know why.  I didn't deliberately change any Registry pr settings, that I'm aware of.

A quick check of my assumptions vs your assumptions.  When you delete the registry branch or set Main_Y to 0 has DOFLinx been shutdown or killed?  You can shutdown DOFLinx with DOFLinxMsg QUIT

 

While checking the code I also noted that the window starts at 50,50 when there is no DOFLinx registry branch, not the default Windows position.  This is not material to the problem at hand, just clarifying.
