File Name: Space Patrol (Taito do Brasil - 1978)

File Submitter: jpsalas

File Submitted: 25 Apr 2019

File Category: VPX Recreations

Author(s): jpsalas
editoy
Manufacturer: Taito
Year: 1978
Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

Based on the Taito table from 1978.
This is a tribute to Taito's table, with new table graphics, since we couldn't find pictures of the real table. The ROM is also lost, so the rules are also similar of what they could have been in the real table.

B2S and backdrop images redrawn by editoy. A picture of the backdrop was the only picture available of this table, and it is as close to the real one as a redraw can be.
Thanks to Carlos Guizzo for suppling the backdrop to editoy for redrawing.
The playfield was inspired by the backdrop image and colors used by editoy.
Thanks to foxyt for the DOF commands.

The Plastics were inspired of the Space Patrol comics from the 50's.

Cool! A fantasy version of a lost game. Neat idea and looks great.

I'm assuming the picture you guys used was the tatio ad/flyer picture.  I was doing some digging for more pictures and this is the only one I could find.  I also stumbled across a few odd backglasses.  Feel free to take a look, I'm sure you guys have all these already but you never know. https://www.dropbox....nsDYCdGKwa?dl=0

Hi Rocco,

Thanks a lot for the pictures you found. And yes, the only image avaliable of Taito's Space Patrol playfield is the one on the flyer, but its resolution is too low... :(

Just for you to know, the Hustler table, which BG picture you made avaliable at Dropbox, is on JP's to do list. ;)  Maybe it's one of his next tables. Who knows... ;)

Thank you so much for your collaboration.

Greetings

And remember, guys, this is a tribute table.  ;)

I'll keep looking for images.  Someone out there has to have one.  According to someone on a brasil (I assume) forum claims to have played the table when he was younger.

I researched several people about playfield photos but did not get. This machine is very rare and the only thing that i know it was clone of the Recel Lady Luck. The first tables of Taito were clones of the Recel (Criterium, Check Mate) as well as Space Patrol but only this one had a new design of the playfield and backglass.

Almost all TTL tables made by Taito were destroyed when the microprocessed tables came out. That's why they are very, very hard to find nowadays.

Thanks again, pal! :)

We have lots of hi-res pictures of this table, that were taken at the Brazilian Pinball Museum.

JP will come up with this gem in some time. ;)

Thank you JP and "Taito team". A bit sad to know that we're soon reaching the end of these re-creations.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Thanks in advance for all these rare tables !

It's really exciting to play all these tables we'll never find in the real life

I've a question I already asked in some other topics :) , do you plan to convert to VPX some of VP9 Spanish tables from MFuegemann ?

Thank you for another brilliant table!!!!!

Some old tables have cool sticky cards that support Highscores (e.g. Boomerang). I'm a little lacking them in your tables... Is it a big problem to add them? It gives a lot of fun - there is a bigger competition in the company :)

I have no plans for now. We'll see what akiles50000 means later. I know he still prefer VP9 to VPX :)

Those Taito tables keeps the Highscore, as you can see during the small attrack mode. I have added that post-it to my latest Spanish EM tables (the one that Loserman made or use in his tables, I simply changed the ramps by flashers)

I must admit that as a beginner I do not know where to look for "small attrack mode". It seems to me, however, that your  table remembers only the last highest score (I can see it right after starting the tablet as a flashing HS on the counters). Unfortunately, it is not possible to enter an initials. In Boomerang or Cappersville a tiny sticker takes care of everything. In addition, it doesn't interfere with anything, it's so small that it doesn't destroy the graphics, but it fulfills its important .
I would like to point out that this is just a small detail that I wanted to mention. Besides, I'm the biggest fan of your tables!!!!!  :))

Excellent. :otvclap:
Thanks JP, Carlos Guizzo & Editoy
the collection of Brazilian taito pinballs is epic, in quantity and quality
In Spain we had two pinball machines manufactured by petaco recel: LAY LUCK and FORTUNE, they were electromechanical, but they had the same playfield
