This question probably has been asked before, but I couldnt find an answer anywhere. Is it possible to connect Doflinx to a Gamepad to activate the rumble motors for feedback? If not, are there any alternatives? Thank you very much.

DOFLinx does not drive the rumble on an XBox controller, it simply uses the XBox controller an an input device.  All Output devices for DOFLinx are DOF based.

In theory it would be possible.  How would you see it working and why?

Thanks for your quick response! There is a pretty new way to play VP with a VR HMD. And it is just awesome! Ok, there are flaws here and there, flasher and bulbs lights dont look good most of the times. But overall it is an awesome experience.

I built that neat Pinsim controller and have xbox 360 rumble motors in it. Pinball FX2 and Stern Pinball arcade give output to the pinsim and it is just amazing. I bet some people would enjoy it, if Doflinx could do this. Is it a lot of work to implement it? Do you know any other way to let VP give some rumble to my Pinsim? Thank you very much.

With the software available today you could hook up your rumble motors as any of the toys available via DOF.  This of course would you require you to have a DOF output board (ie LEDWiz, Pinscape, etc) and wire direct to your controller's rumble motors.

DOFLinx could be made to use the rumble motors as an output device, but then you would need to link them logically to a toy or toys.

Did you have any idea of what triggers you thought could be the ones to trigger the rumble motors?

The Teensy doesnt to the trick here? I have no idea about cap building. What is the best board (price/performance ration) here to get the motors working? On FX2 VR the rumble acts for Bumper hits, kick outs and sligthly on target hits I think. Not sure about flipper hits and special events. Knocker hits would be nice as well. Is that all possible if we let the motors be toys?

@blindpeser

I have the same question than you: I'm also using teensy based pinsim.

I am not aware of the Teensy controller being used for toy based outputs, only addressable LEDs.

Hi, I designed the PinSim being discussed. Just to clarify, the Teensy emulates a XInput Gamepad (essentially an Xbox 360 Gamepad), and what these guys want is for the gamepad to rumble whenever a solenoid fires in the game. If VP doesn't natively support gamepad rumble, I'm not sure there's much they can do besides roll their own Doflinx hardware solution.

Thank you Jeremy your brief input has made it all "click" in my head.  I was still thinking of the Teensy in the way I use it for an addressable LED controller - silly me !

Given that the PinSim has all of the ability to run rumble motors then this looks more like a software solution.  @blindpeser seems keen so I might continue conversations with him and test a few things out.

OK, so today I've added the ability in DOFLinx to run an Xbox controller (1-4) left or right rumble motor.  You can set the speed for the motor and the duration to be triggered in DOFLinx from any of the key linked toys being LF, RF, LS, RS, ML, MC, MR, BL, BC, BR, SH, GR, KN, FN, SR, BK.

Its as simple as adding another line to the DOFLinx.INI file like the one below;

XBOX_RUMBLE=LS,1,L,60000,1500,BR,2,R,50000,1000 ..... etc, etc, etc

The above will trigger XBox controller #1 Left rumble motor at a speed of 60000 for 1500Ms when the left slingshot is hit.  It will also trigger XBox controller #2 Right rumble motor at a speed of 50000 for 1 second when the back right solenoid is called.  The parameter can be setup with any or all of the 16 triggers listed.

I've tested this with FX3 and notice that FX3 takes some control of XBox controller #1 so the run time of the rumble motor is not exactly as set.  I presume this is because its also trying to run XBox controller #1 for some table events and doesn't consider that some other process may also want to play.  Having said that, I've successfully run it with LS and RS on controller #1.

I believe this is what was being sought.

To run this you will need to install DOF (for the DLL's) and DOFLinx then configure a basic DOFLinx.INI file  I'll PM the beta DOFLinx.exe to @blindpeser now, let me know if anyone else wants a play around before I finalise.  I was surprised how easy, and how cool this.  It was a sight to see as I played AdventureLand on a cabinet while also holding an XBox controller in each hand  :juggle:

Hi. I was wondering if you could send me a link to your beta? I've been building a mini table and want to install a Xbox controller for the rumble. Cheers

Will do

No way to have it working with VPX (yet), but is running with FX2/3 and FP.

Id also love to get force feedback working on my PinSim with VPX VR. (And VPX as well I guess).

If you get to a point where you want another beta tester let me know. My PinSim however is modified to have an amplifier for the force feedback and larger motors so my settings will be mich different. I use an.extrrnal power supply to run my feedback and its working perfectly with pinball FX2 and FX3 with their native force feedback support for the Xbox gamepad.
