no its the same process.

Download the vpinmame3.1_minimal [for fast flips] and unpack to Visual Pinball\Vpinmame folder

download freezy dmd ext 1.71

Download the Altcolor pal files [just search these terms]

copy the altcolor and DMD Device files [freezy] to vpinmame folder

run setup.exe [vpinmame folder] and setup the paths and defaults to colorise and use external DLL

It will show 2 DMD, just turn the Windows DMD off through the backglass [s] or Registry [ShowWinDMD=0]

If its all Orange then its not setup right.

1. Install Vpinmame31_ minimal fast flips

2. Install Freezy dmd ext 1.71 then copy the files in vpinmame\DMDExt to Vpinmame

3. Run the setup from vpinmame and in Defaults make same as Image 2

4. Run all exes as Administrator

5. Can you play any of the games in Image 1?

6. if you change the Colour of the DMD, right click the DMD>>Game Settings change the 100% colour to green etc,

7. The Altcolor folder must have other folders inside, same name as the Roms, inside those folders are pal files.

copy some different ones in and check Image 4

See image 5, should look like the top [external dll] not the bottom.[windmd]

  • do i put the roms in the matched folder?  -- No
  •
  • Virtual DMD owners:
  • To get Started
  • Download this file and unzip copy the folder altcolor into vpinmame
  • http://vpuniverse.co...olor-pallettes/
  •
  • Enable ‘Colorize DMD (4 colors)’ in the rom setup of vpinmame
  • Enable ‘Use external DMD (dll)’ in the rom setup of vpinmame  (F1) and turn off Show DMD
  • Download latest dmdext version (current v1.7.1) via https://github.com/f...nsions/releases
  • More Info
  • https://github.com/f.../dmd-extensions
    • Copy ‘DmdDevice.dll’ and ‘DmdDevice.ini’ to your vpinmame directory.
    • NOTE:  If you are a Virtual DMD owner you should not install dmdext… just move the two files described here.

you did not follow my instructions

2. Install Freezy dmd ext 1.71 then copy the files in vpinmame\DMDExt to Vpinmame

The folders [inside Altcolor folder] match the rom names not the table names

Does this setup use color roms, or is this just using 4 colors to color the dmd?

pindmd2 is a controller for monochromatic displays. It does not support color dmd.

so no ability to apply the color patching b/c aren't those 16 colors too?  I thought this pindmd 2 did 16 colors.  If not, what do you suggest I do?  Sell the xpin, pindmd2 and get pindmd 3 (which I don't believe you can just get the board but the full package of 300) or the pin-X-dmd?

I have been trying to get this to work on and off for a few days with no luck.  I think I have all the files in the correct location.   When I change the Vpinmame settings to use external DMD (using F1), the table will still play, but VP 10.5 will not shut down properly.   When I change back to internal DMD, the table shuts down fine in VP.   When I use the VPinmame setup tool I can test the DMD and it works fine when using internal DMD, once I change to external DMD the setup tool will try and open the ROM, and then even the setup tool window will close.  I may be a little confused on a few items (1) exactly which files stay in the DMDext folder, and which files go to the Vpinmame folder.  (2) should all .exe files be running and launched in administrator mode? (3) do i need to manually adjust the dmd config file with the location of my DMD?  (4) Do I even need the DMDext.exe file since I have a 3 monitor setup?

Exactly which files stay in the DMDext folder?  -- No need for this folder

I only run the exe's in administrator mode when absolutely necessary because if you start to run ones that aren't need it, Then they may all need run that way

adjust the dmd in the DmdDevice.ini file

Do I even need the DMDext.exe file. --   see below

which files go to the Vpinmame folder. --   see below

Damn   installed all like above and only ORANGE color dmd ( as external dmd )

Using 2 monitors , no real pindmd   ( windows 7  vpx5 )

In dmddevice.ini. file colorize = true

In altcolor : for example in afm_113b have  : pin2dmd.pal 16 kb         pin2dmd.vni  3672 kb    ._pin2dmd.pal   4 kb     pin2dmd - Copy.pal  1kb    pin2dmd pre_V2.48.pal  16 kb

Think this topic is 'fake news'  :console:

Hello everyone,

Sorry to bring this thread back , but I am also having difficulty with Freezy color dmd.

So far I have followed all instructions to the best of my knowledge and the external colour DMD does show up ONLY while using Vpinmame test option. In other words, if I test Congo, the DMD is showing up with the correct PAL files. However if I run the game through VP, the external DMD shows up, but in orange. Show DMD is checked off in the games option menu F1, external and colour are checked. Not sure what can be causing this but it's driving me nuts. Been at it all day today and no luck.

Any ideas on where to look?

Thanks fellows.

Fixed it with the help of member SVT. Thank you so much my friend!!

Ended up being a problem with a file extension. DmdDevice ini file had a txt extension at the end and VP was not picking it up. Changed it to .ini and all is good.

This may be a totally clue-less question (I'm a mac guy so using a pc and dll and ini files is confusing) but when I look at my VPinMame folder, I don't see any ini extensions.  My DmdDevice file just says it's a configuration file.  I'm on windows 10.  When I open the DmdDevice file, it does look a lot like what everyone is describing and the file described by te freezy instructions.

Excuse me if I'm being incredibly thick, but how does dmdext.exe know where to position a VIRTUAL DMD for FX3 if it does not use DmdDevice.cfg???

I can run dmdext test and get the virtual DMD on screen, however, this ignores the DmdDevice.cfg file as per the instructions. Therefore, the virtual DMD is always in the top/left hand corner of my playfield.

Obviously this is no good if you have a second or third monitor as a virtual DMD.

When I try and run dmdext mirror --source=pinballfx3 --no-virtual before launching FX3 it just says no output devices available??

My brain hurts!
