Baby Pacman FS

Version: 1.0.0
Category: VP 9.x Cabinet Tables (FULL SCREEN)

Author(s): unclewilly

Description:
Baby Pacman FS cabinet Table

Table built and scripted by unclewilly.
I'd like to thank terry for the vectorized backglass and plastic scans, billpa for the plastics redraw and el_timbo for finding the control panel image and pf.
The script is written from scratch but the light numbers were based on steve ellenoff's lighting as the manual was not clear on the lamp numbers.

This is mainly for FS cabinet users with 2 monitors as the video dmd screen is fairly large. I have a vectorized backglass for those that are interested.

I hope you enjoy it

-unclewilly

P.S. I have included in the table zip a readme and keycode document that explains how to set up the joystic to your cabinet setup. By default the joystick is set to the arrow keys. I use a usb arcade stick for the game along with joytokey to map the buttons, but the readme will allow you to map the buttons as you desire.

Darndest thing? I can no longer put the DMD Playscreen on the 2nd monitor. I've deleted NVRAM, cleared the registry. If I allow it on the main play field there's not problem, put it to the backglass and relaunch, it's the incredibly sluggish and hard to quit out of poop mode. I've tried old and new core.vbs files and replaced all ROMS and VPTs a few times.

The best I can do is hard code it in the script to pop to the lower right of the main board and then drag it to my main screen to play. No biggie but, it is such a creative recreation of the original. I actually like playing this virtual one a bit more than the original. Bring on Granny & the gators!

Hi Unclewilly,

Do you have the vectorized backglass for this game. I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

OK, I give up. 1st, I love the look and play of this game and how you chose to do the layout. I finally picked up a small USB joystick, Atari 2600 Style so I didn't have to use the keyboard. My key mappings work fine and controls Baby-Pac with no problem.

My issue is that since the joystick is recognized by Windows XP as a GamePad is is acting like a Test Roller inside all the Visual Pinball Tables so as Pac runs the maze, the ball in the cabinet is knocking around in the upper U. Even if I disable all keystroke emulation, the joystick itself will act as a test roller (as it's referred to in FP).

I've searched the registry, in game options, ini & VBS files as well as near impossible Google searches and can't find a way to disable roller inside of Visual Pinball 9. I know my X-Arcade acts only as a keyboard but, I'm not going to schlep out my Dual Tanksticks for Baby Pac and once again, it's near impossible to Google "joystick that acts as keyboard or only send keystrokes" because it'll only return keystroke emulation software for your joystick.

Is there a way to not have the joystick act as a test roller in Visual Pinball? Thanks!

I thought this was set up using keycodes? Mine are mapped to my flipper buttons (never tried with a joystick) but can't you use something like key2joy or xpadder to assign the joysticks to keys?

Also, anyone got a backglass of this? After I put one of the real DMD screens in, I moved the Maze to my backglass, would love to have it look closer to the actual game with the marquee that goes around the videogame.

This is a great table!!

Right, I have no trouble moving the character, I do use JoyToKey, it's the joystick itself that will act like a roller. I can go into any table and move the ball around like a fighter pilot and rack up enormous scores. If you have a USB joystick or USB Gamepad, you can try this as well (just start by pressing up and see the ball roll to the top).

I'm just wondering if anyone knows how to disable the test roller in Visual Pinball. I know in FP there is a toggle for this under the controller settings (please no program wars happy.gif ), just wondering how I might bump it out of VP.

THANKS!

Figured it out, in order for the Joystick/Gamepad that is recognized by Windows "Game Controllers" to not act like a test Roller inside of baby Pac-Man you need to disable PBW Accelerometer inside of Physics. If you do have a Pinball Wizard, you will still have nudge control.

I also found out that the single button joystick I picked up that mimics an Atari 2600 one stinks on ice. I have a USB Saturn Retroline that works great or I might pick up a USB NES knock off.

My only issue now is that since I'm able to score much higher now I noticed that the high scores are put in hierarchy based on the first few numbers, my hundreds of thousands are ranked lower than my tens of thousands.

I'll try to take a look at the code myself but, I'm really only used to adding plunger and DMD support. If you can point me in the right direction, Unclewilly, I'd be grateful. Thank you for all the time to create such great tables.

How did you map the flipper buttons to the joystick? I've been trying to do this but everytime I put the flipper buttons in for my cabinet, they don't work for baby pac. Tried that xpadder program, didn't work either.

Anyone have the code numbers for 4 flipper button cabinet, so I can control baby pac with flipper buttons instead of cranking out the keyboard all the time?

I'm not clear on what you mean by a four flipper cabinet but, Uncle Willy has a Read Me file with key code numeric equivalents to modify the VPMKeys.vbs file located in your Tables directory.

I am using a modified Pinball Wizard controller and use JoyToKey to handle the dead zone issue with the motion sensor. The particular gamepad I am using now did not work out of the box using the "keyJoyUp = 200, keyJoyDown = 208, etc" so I had to use joyToKey to create the mappings for the second GamePad. The important part for me was to disable PBW Accelerometer inside of Physics section of the table.

Another thing you might want to do is take a look at your Game Controllers Control Panel and make sure the only controllers listed are the ones you have hooked to your computer. I had a wireless keyboard/mouse combo that was showing up in there and it threw off my mappings.

only controllers I have show up is the Pinball Wizard one. My cabinet has 4 flipper buttons. Those are the buttons I want to allocate for the baby pac movement, as well as be able to play the pinball portion with the same buttons. I used Xpadder, and seems that my cabinet buttons show up as 2, 3, 10 and 11. But when I put them in the VBS file as those numbers, they still do not work.

If you are going to use your flipper buttons, you just have to assign the keys that you have assigned for your pinball flipper buttons on your IPAC. Another words more than likely LSHIFT, RSHIFT, LCTRL, RCRTL. You need to put those keycodes into the configuration for baby pacman.

I will admit, it's not the idea solution fro playing the game, (I have mine set up to UP/Left and Down/Right currently). THink I'm going to change it to Up/Down, Left/Right because I keep getting confused smile.gif

I think the machine and table use a second key for the 2-player start button. Much like Hyperball. What does the keydown routine say in the table script?
