We will soon be conducting a contest to determine the best newly-built original table.

Once we determine the participants, we will provide a "starter table" with a few locked objects for the participants to build a table around. These objects must remain locked and unedited, though the color and images can be changed to fit the table. This is to ensure the table is a fresh start and not one already in progress.

Other guidelines are as follows:
  • VP9 will be used.
  • All starter objects must be visible and collidable.
  • Non-licensed themes only. The theme must be original.
  • Table objects must be completed by the participant ONLY, though the participant may enlist help with the scripting. (Scripting helpers must be credited in the script and table info sections.)
  • VPF Staff members are not eligible.
  • VIPs and other members deemed "experienced" table authors will be put in a category of their own.
  • This contest is only open to subscribers of VPF, VIPs, or charter members.
  • Prizes will be awarded based on the number of participants.

If we have enough responses, there may be an opportunity to set up multiple skill levels....we'll see.

The contest rules are subject to change at any time. Prizes may vary.

If you would like to participate, please post your interest to do so here along with any comments or suggestions you have about the contest.

Thank you.

No VP8 (perhaps to disallow any half-completed tables already that would have an unfair advantage) and the minimum of Photoshop trickery then? All objects have to limited to the VP editor, so no reels and no virtual toy images can be used? It makes sense if you're thinking about it this way, it keeps the contest focused on raw design and the use of VP itself.

Well, I consider reels VP objects, too.

If you can use reels to make a great original, I encourage it.

Btw...any and all tutorial requests will be fulfilled during this time. That not only encourages me to upload them all, but helps me know which are needed first.

2 bad....I have two originals, but they are both licensed themes......

I guess one of them could be a real table. I work on it for 1 Year now.

My current VPX Tables I am working on:

Attack from Mars/Finished - The Walking Dead Pro/90% - The Lord of the Rings/75% - Family Guy/90% - The Simpsons Pinball Party/15%

It's the same, for the most part, with added features...

so, it's just more, not that much different.

so you can have someone code but no help with the photoshop stuff?
That sucks cause i can code but photshop is my enemy.

Oh and who would you consider an "experienced" table author?

Just curious, i'm not the best with table designs, that's why i work on recreations.

BTW, i think this is a great idea to get more people actively involved with table productions, or at least show people what goes in to building a table.

Although i think Eala makes the most kick a$$ originals smile.gif

If there were 3 categories, you'd be in the middle.

Staff aren't allowed to participate, or I'd be tempted to try another original.... smile.gif and yeah, I have no clue what I'm doing with VP.

My computer runs VP 9 but only with hardware rendering off. Does this put me at a disadvantage? (I still would like to participate anyway)

Also, how will the tables be judged? I think you should have three categories: aesthetics (with a weight of 25% of overall score), layout/fun factor (worth 35% of score), and rulesheet/completeness (worth 35% of score) and one bonus category for the general effect of the table (worth the last 5% of the score). Whatdya think?

I might have to join this... I am still working on my Avro Arrow table and the scripting is driving me crazy! I think it's a great idea Noah!

So, regarding Licensed themes, you mean specifically, nothing can be used that appears on ipdb (obvious) but what about licensed products? Like, beverages? or a movie/tv-show themed table that hasn't been made yet? Are those off limits too??

. Am flying out to KY.(USA) tonite for my Dad's funeral, will be back Monday-ish.
will leave soon to drive to my cousin's house to pick up old (working) computer to try to fix mine hope to get computer fixed using that old motherboard with my drives. But after the dust settles, I'd love to get in on this contest for original table authors! If I still can't get my computer fixed, I'll continue to use this one, but it's at a friends house across town, so can only get on here a few times a week. I can't wait! I love originals both playing, and creating!

If new originals have to be built from scratch, how long a time scale will you be giving for this contest?

well he did say that we'd start with a base table with a few locked items on it that we had to incorporate within our table. so we aren't really starting from scratch per se.
