File Name: Flash Gordon FS (Bally 1981) (VP9.9 PM5)

File Submitter: Sindbad

File Submitted: 16 Nov 2014

File Category: VP 9.x Cabinet Tables (FULL SCREEN)

Author(s): Sindbad
Manufacturer: Bally
Year: 1980
ROM: Link to ROM
Media Pack: Link to Media Pack
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

Thank you all for being patient. Here is the cabinet version of "Flash Gordon (Reloaded)"

Flash Gordon will always have a special place in my heart, because it was my first build, and I love this table (even sometimes it's a devil ...)

The test team gave their "Okay", so the table can be released. It's once more a PM5 version, and you will be surprised how much better it plays compared to my first build, even the table is still very fast. Hmmm... Very hard to explain it in English, my English is only school-English and I left school 37 years ago... I'm a fan of the tables that were played during the late 70s and 80s. They have their own place and their own charm. But DMD, flashers and toys are a "must have" for a good table today. So I tried to give Flash Gordon a little bit of a new touch and implemented some flashers. I also had for a very short time a version with a working DMD via UltraDMD, but that was too much of new effects. The new effects can be enabled / disabled in the options menu (via F6 key). Please take the time to check all settings in the option menu. The option menu doesn't show up automatically if you played my old build, because it uses the "old" qualifier to store the settings. So if you don't call the option menu, maybe you won't benefit from the new features. But even if the old qualifier is used to store the settings, the table is more or less rebuild from scratch. This table has no UVP support. I believe that there are no more UVP users. But if there are, inform me and I'll enable UVP support.

This version includes - as all my tables - day- and night-mode (changeable in the options menu)

If you run into problems with the table, please report them and I'll fix it. If you think that cosmetic things could be done much better - congratulations - and don't forget to periodically report your progress during building a better table. This was a bit sarcasm, but I read during the last weeks some really strange posts like "the table is too dark", "the table has incorrect angles", "the ball is too fast" and so on and so on. You should always remember: most of the authors have no access to a real pinball machine and are not able to compare their builds to the real table - only Y***ube helps them. They build the tables in the first instance for themselves to play them on their own computer or cab. Sharing them to the community is a very good thing, and sometimes a - let's say - smoother way of giving helpful information to the author would help much more...

Please don't forget:
This is a physmod table, you need VP9.9 physmod 5 in order to play this table, otherwise unpredictable (or funny) results may occur.

So it's time to present the real stars:

Credits go to:

The Loafer, Shadowsclassic, Nemo, Arngrim, dboyrecords, Zany: Thanks for all the testing, you're so fantastic!!!
Scapino: Lamp matrix, part of DIP switch routines
JPSalas: Lamp routines, flash routines, some sounds, some images
Koadic: Plunger code
Noah: Nudging routines
Destruk: Sound routines
UncleWilly, Dark, Zany: Thanks for all the awesome primitives
The VP team and the VPM team: Thanks for the awesome software.

There is no need - NO NEED - to ask for any permission, use my resources for whatever you want (but not for crime). There's also no need - NO NEED - to name me in the credits when you use resources that came from me.

And now hurry up, download the table and have fun!

Thanks for this very important and good question. Never thought about that.

Open the table and go to the script editor. Find the following lines in the script (should be somewhere at line 1700)

tmp = (TableOptions AND &H00000100) / &H00000100
If tmp <> NightMode Then

and replace it by

tmp = (TableOptions AND &H00000100) / &H00000100

tmp = 1
If tmp <> NightMode Then

whereas 1 means night mode and 0 means day mode. Then you can save the table with two different (but fix) modes.

This table is just fantastic! I don't think anyone could make this table any closer to the real arcade table.

Thanks once again Sindbad, you are a true perfectionist! :otvclap:

Thanks once more for updating your first table, what a job.

I invite everyone to remember to try the F6 options, the new flasher effect is incredible cool. It's not always about realism, sometimes bling bling is a cool options. Really though, just play this incredible recreation, it does the name "Flash Gordon" justice!

For me it errors in physmod. It says on startup, "invalid controller selected defaulting to Vpinmame". It never starts and terminates. Works in VP9.9 and will start but of course it's unplayable cause it's a physmod table.

when you say it terminates, do you mean it crashes?  If it doesn't, I am guessing here but it looks like its' trying to load either UVP/B2S and you don't have that installed.  Press F6, go through the first screen (options) and press "ok", this should lead you to the second options screen.  ensure you select VPM to test if this is the case

Sindbad:  I noticed in the F6 option, UVP is not listed but it is in the script.  Just an FYI

Great one again, thanks Sindbad and "all Stars" !

Is it possible in Script to auto-switch Day/Night Mode with a "local Time" from CPU ?

i think, it Should be similar as: if DateTime.Now.ToString("hh") > "19" Then tmp = 1 ... ?  (example after 20:00 h is night, ... sorry, i can't test it today)

maybe this is an idea for you and other Dev's, to create Tables with this Feature, and set it with one Variable ( autodaynight = 0/1 ).

STAT,

possible are a lot of things ... I'll think about it.

Loafer,

as described in the info far the table, I've removed the possibility for UVP. Some other authors already provide only BS2 / non-BS2. It's still in the script, but not selectable (in case anybody needs it, it can be quickly enabled again).

So for me it seems, that William has selected B2S Server as the Controller. If he does as you already suggested, it should work.

It crashes in any mode selected, any rom selected. Weird I checked Scapino's version loads. It works in vp 9.9, but not in physmod. I have no other problems with physmod tables or B2S tables. My B2S works just this table will not load.

I might add the old Sindbad version of Flash Gordon will not load either in Physmod, but that's OK as it's not a Physmod table.

William,

does VP crash or is it the table? You write it crashes, but one sentence later you write it doesn't load. What exactly happens?

... and the old version should load also, it doesn't matter if it's a physmod table or not. It's more or less unplayable because of different physics, but it should load and start.

William: did you change anything in the script before trying the table and did you rename the table and db2s?

Sindbad: just to be clear I was not suggesting to support UVP, just wanted to mention it's always possible someone could change something in the script to try and enable it so wanted to ensure you realize either it's missing from the f6 option screen or perhaps at some point remove the code from the script in case a user misinterprets. I think in 99.999% of the time, there should not be a problem the f6 option is there to facilitate enabling and disabling, anytime members don't need to edit the script is a good thing
