I've been doing some experimenting to recreate an 'animated backglass' image instead of the static one's used with VP Tables.

During my tests (with a 4:3 IJ table) all ran smoothly, so no table/ball stuggering.

'Flying Dutchman's Animated Backglass'

No 'rocked science' .. It's in it's very early stage, but it could be at your doorstep soon wink.gif

I'll keep you posted.

Cheers,
FD.

Holy smack, I almost fell out of my chair there. 160 megs? I hope there's going to be some kind of more compression there.

EDIT: Oh, it's an example video.

Thanks for your constructive reply Gordon .. as said it's only a test and not a final result .. only if it was possible or not ..
Please don't play a real pinball machine .. you could be distracted by the 'flickering-lights' on the backbox wink.gif

Cheers,
FD.

Looks nice. Is the lights coded so that the rom controls it or is it a loop animation?

Kiaininja, unfortunately (it's still) loop animated so no rom control .. any idea on how to accomplish that within VP?

FD.

Because you asked so nicely.

You will notice that the lights seem to come from behind the glass and not in front of the glass.
It involved a black mask layer as well as a few other layers.
I recon I could perfect this is required.
This is an animated gif so it may take a moment or two before it has fully downloaded and starts animating.

I did some more 'animated one's' and share with you the example on 'Scared Stiff'.
'Scared Stiff' BG is presented in a appropriate way emulating the real backglass activity, and with redefining it the results can be very realistic (for example: look at the little 'torch' light detail in the attached pic.). wink.gif

The video (taken with a photo-camera) isn't a good quality at all, but you get to see the 'running' result anyway.

It adds a lot to the overal gameplay to see the backglass actually being 'alive'.
