Okay guys now that Cftbl graphical update is done I thought it's about time for somebody make a HD graphic update for Twilight Zone too.

So i get permission from Unclewilly and started today to graphical mod his amazing Twilight Zone FSNM 1.2 version.

Very early screenshot(only playfield and playfield lights made, no plastics, GI not finished, old flashers etc etc...):

progress.png

This will maybe take long... , becouse this table have some challenges, and i want to learn some "base" thing what i still not know :(, like converting ramp to alpha, alpha flashers etc etc... so dont expect a fast release but i will do my best. (And i still need one permission for resources).

Best regards

Sheltemke

You're on fire, man :)

Thanks for all this work.

I don't want to sound greedy, but any way you could upgrade the non-night mod version of this table? While the night mod has some nice graphics additions, I think the regular table is closer to the original. So lifting the few improvements from the night mod and applying to the regular table (plus figuring out the proper layback / FOV settings without graphics glitches) would result in the ultimate version.

Also, for same reason the night mod's playability suffers compared to the regular table (at least that's what I feel). Certain shots are much harder (or almost impossible to make). So overall I think the regular table is a much better basis for modding.

You not sound greedy its no problem. However this beautiful nightmod is much closer to my heart than the 1.3, have many nice "resources" and lights which i can use. Unfortunately i am much better in photoshop than in VP :( And this is easier to mod... That's the truth. But i hope you will like this mod too when it will ready :)

About harder shots, don't worry becouse i want to change the physics too on this.

Still need contacting ROM at gopinball.com for resources permission so nothing is certain at moment yet. :( But started working on this.

hey there sheltemke,

I've actually started working on a mod like that for myself. So far I've added the pf, colour corrected it, created new inserts, new door inserts, new plungers, physics, slightly larger ball, alpha flashers. I was struggling with the plastics to be honest... here's where I go to:

Very nice thewool! Looks beautiful :) Will you teach me to do those flashers hm? :)

As i see your stay nightmod so what you think if i stay with my version and doing "normal" day mod? Or better if only you do that version? Or when you ready i mod it with my lights/playfields? There are many choices.

I want to hear your opinion, it's ok for me if you want to update this only too, doesn't matter, but i want to play with updated Twilight Zone in the future :)

All right, thanks for the reply. I'm sure I'll like your mod, since I liked the earlier ones too. Especially if you can make the whole table a tad lighter, not so dark (if that makes sense for a night mod, heh).

Oh, and if you're aiming to change some things, if there is any way to get the extra ball / lock shot to work closer like on the other version, that would improve things a lot. I think due to the graphics updates certain things have been moved so it's extremely hard to make that shot. Perhaps the cash register is more in the way, I dunno... or it may be something else.

This mod is based on UW's nightmod, but I've moved all the toys off the playfield for now. The good news is I can drop the standard 'day' playfield straight in as I already have the template to copy all the insert lights over, but I was going to add some more GI to this version (as it uses the night mod table). I initially intended to do both versions then hand them back over to Scott.

It already uses a HD playfield, and I think I got permission a while back to use the resources but would have to check. Also as this is a mod of Groni's original table, it would seem the right thing to do to get his permission as well. I created new insert lighting as the FP lights did not look too good to my eyes, at least nothing like the original.

I've been tinkering with the phsyics for about a year. The lock/extra ball shot is nice from the left flipper, as is the slot machine shot.

Wow. This is going to be great. Glad you guys are combining your efforts and strengths for this fabulous table.

With JP taking a break, it is nice to see such great works still coming down the pipeline. :)

Btw. Nothing was moved in this original mod. The ohysucs were just changed a bit so it would more match the real world table. The physics in the original table were set much too easy and for me made the table less fun or challenging to play.

Of course, I like night mods myself, but yea, that's pretty dark. It's still awesome looking though I have to admit. A lot of hard work and time went into this mod that's for sure. As long as the"dead end" works, and the powerball mania jackpot works, and I can make the shots when I aim properly, I'll be a happy camper. I remember on the day version originally the dead end didn't work properly(scripting issue) Also, I remember on this night mod that battle the power was a pain in the ass to beat. It's so cool to see different people's interpretations on tables. I think we all see them from a different perspective. Keep up the great work gentlemen.

....on a side note, I'd love to see a bride of Pinbot update. (My wife loves that table) lmao. I've tried doing stuff, but that's a hard table to tackle. UncleWilly did a great job on that one.

Agreed (although I'm not crazy for night mods in general myself). A little darker than the "day" version would be fine but hopefully the update will be lighter than the night mod.

Actually Sheltemke's screen shot looks pretty good to me as far as the light level.

As long as the"dead end" works, and the powerball mania jackpot works, and I can make the shots when I aim properly, I'll be a happy camper.

+1

I remember on this night mod that battle the power was a pain in the ass to beat.

"Pain in the ass" puts it mildly. It's closer to impossible (or I just suck at playing, lol)

Managing the lock/extra ball shot is almost as difficult, but a tad easier.

I played the real table quite a few times and don't remember managing these two being nearly as difficult.

For this reason, I pretty much gave up on playing the night mod and only play the regular version now - that's still hard enough for me :)

I'm sure that if Sheltemke and thewool cooperate, this update will be a killer release. This is one of the best tables ever. With VP's capabilities today, it can receive the treatment it truly deserves.
