File Name: Gilligan's Island (FS Mod VP913)
File Submitter: rob046
File Submitted: 02 Nov 2012
File Category: VP 9.x MOD Cabinet Tables (FULL SCREEN)
Author(s): epthegeek
rob046 (Mod)
Manufacturer: Bally
Year: 1991
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Unspecified

Thanks to epthegeek for letting me mod, & he did a nice job with this table, especially the super complex rotating platform. koadic has helped to improve that further.

I think all the bugs are now nailed down but if not please let me know. I know at least 1 of the bugs had existed since the 1st ever VPM version of the table, so this may be the 1st time ever that the table rules function 100%.

Other changes. First is new physics. B2B collision installed, as is JF's flipper tap code. Before there weren't really any flashers, now I've added all flasher effects (fading). Volcano adjusted. Clear ramps are now alpha ramps. Alpha plunger added. New kicker area visually & a magnet there to help create saucer effect. Added cards to the apron, moved shooter lane down. Added just a little lighting. Yes the table could be darker & show off more lighting, but IMHO this is more of a day table anyways & wouldn't look as nice in a darker environment like many other tables do. Lastly I added some new sounds. I'm likely forgetting some things but these are the more noteworthy changes.

Original Notes from epthegeek:
This recreation of Gilligans Island by Bally would not have been possible at all without all the previous work that so many great table creators have done. It was only by looking at their work that I was able to do any of this. Huge, HUGE thanks to all of them - JPSalas in particular, as I'm sure I borrowed more of his genius than anyone else.

You beauty, thanks for following up with the FS version Rob.

Just one point, I keep hearing the plunger release 'thump' after every button press - flippers, credit button, start, etc. Can you check this out to see if you are experiencing it?

Cheers again for all the work, special mentions also to koadic and epthegeek. Virtual beers all round! :drinks:

I haven't updated to vp913 yet, anyone know what happens if I run this with vp912?? (p.s. not a critisim, just wondering)

Maybe I didn't install the updated plunger code correctly, this should be fixable I'm looking at it now.
oldskool, in that screenshot the lighting seems ok, I assume your issue is the missing inserts, which since you pointed out I did find & fix.

Shouldn't really matter. Though why not update to 913? Literally takes like 30 seconds. I just marked the file as 913 so that in the future people know which version of VP the table was original saved in. Though most of the time I worked on it was in 912, so it should be fine. I never thought that some ppl might be confused & think that they can only play the table in 913, but another reason I like to specify this is because the alpha ramps won't work in any version below VP911. Which is why I don't simply mark the table as generic VP9.

with the texture issue, I think I may have found the problem. & it was a strange one. Basically, I did import the image as seen above with some missing inserts, by accident. However, for me, everything still displayed OK. Like VP was somehow caching a correct version of the PF??? IDK, that one is baffling.

Cool :D

v1.21 is up

Updated FS & desktop versions. hate to put out too many versions, but what I hate more is for too many people to grab versions with noticeable issues. Yeah I really thought this one would of shown for me as well, its so strange that it didn't.

Though why not update to 913?

It was mentioned that T2 Chrome has some graphics problem in 9.13 if I remember correctly. That's why I didn't upgrade yet.

I've not had any issues. I don't play in FS though, which means I don't play T2 chrome. In fact, I've noticed a slight speed boost with VP913, & so far no downside.

FANTASTIC job modding this table!
It didn't get messed up in the rotating circle jungle AT ALL !!!!!
The jungle ramp always fuctions properly now too.
The lighting is so nice to see after all the times i've played that game without having it.
Now I know what I've been missing.
Thank you very much for making a FS version of this wonderful table.

getting error could not create offscreen texture in hp but it works in vp on it's own? have plenty of memory, 4gb ram patch installed, vp913 etc this is the only table that has done this.

My concern revolves around the major? changes koadic has made with the key mapping. In particular, I have both the Nanotech kit and an IPAC2 in my cab because I use it for M.A.M.E. as well as virtual pinball and I've put a lot of work into making all the buttons work in a particular way.

Nobody else has seemed to mention this with VP913 so I may switch over - I'm possibly over thinking this, I mean, If I don't change any of the keymappings inside VP913 settings, I'm probably not going to see any problems, right?
