Certain tables cause FP to crash when loading

There are a few newer tables...Fireball Classic for one...that cause my FP to crash when trying to play. They'll load just fine into the editor, and I have all the bells & whistles turned off, like "load images into table editor" being unchecked. But when I hit play, I'll get the splash screen, it'll load almost all the way to the end, "processing models", "injecting textures", etc., all the way up to "getting ready to play", and then it just closes with the error message "Future Pinball has stopped working". Using Win7 and the newest release of FP, running as administrator, etc. Any idea what might be causing this, and a way around it?

I have noticed that with many of the newer FP pins I must use the
FP editor to open then play them rather than just clicking on them
If just clicked on I get a message saying 'there was a problem loading that file'
it may play but most often the pin doesn't. But if using the FP editor they load okay
and play fine. Odd why they do that but it also seems they are the larger FP pins too
as well as being newer with more bells and whistles than previous tables.
Oh this is using Win Xp

always always always make sure the option "Load Image into Editor" under Preferences > Editor Preferences is unchecked. You really should only need this if and when you want to edit the tables. As for playing make sure its unchecked - close FP and open it again and launch your table.

"Load Image into Editor" is/was definitely unchecked. I've gone though just about everything futurepinball.exe and editor-modifiable that I possibly can, with no luck. I have a feeling that it's likely a Windows 7 or other non-directly-FP-related issue. BTW, just in case this might help, here are a list of several working and non-working recent tables (they ALL load into my FP editor, non-working just means that FP crashes when attempting to "play table":
WORKING:
Creature from the Black Lagoon
Attack from Mars
King Kong
Twilight Zone
Checkpoint
Funhouse
Fish Tales
Back to the Future
NON-WORKING:
Big Bang Bar
Fireball Classic
Addams Family
There were a number of others that I deleted when they wouldn't work. Many of the working tables seem (to me) very memory-intensive, that's why I can't figure why they would work and others won't.

out of curiosity - do you run the executable as administrator and in XP SP3 compatibility mode? if not then enable those 2 options on the shortcut.
Yes, that's exactly how I run FP, XP/SP3 compatibility and as administrator. I've tried running FP in other compatibility modes too, and also unchecked entirely. Still crashes when I try to play those tables. It's gotta be some particular thing about those few tables.....

I suddenly started getting this problem with Blue'n'Pink - even though it used to work fine.
tried most settings, but eventually discovered that if I enabled the 'Use texture Compression' then it works again
I have a 1Gb ram on an ATI graphics card, and I'm fairly sure I never used to have it ticked, but it sorts the problem for me so give it a try

Thanks Macro, I also have an ATI card, gave the compression thing a shot, unfortunately it didn't work.

I also have the same problem with FuturePinball except it mostly hangs at "Initializing Playfield Objects" here. I tried about 10 different tables and I only got "Attack From Mars" working.
It's also interesting that the only resolution I can use is 1.280 x 1.024. In higher resolutions the picture is not centered, some areas are cut off.
FuturePinball seems to be very very buggy...

recently, i built a 19"wide +15" 4/3 backglass cabinet, with future pinball only, and i had these problems (with other issues, like some textures problems, picture artefacts on the backglasses, ....) and i had an ati (sapphire) 4850 512Mo on a seven64bits system with 4go ram.
since i changed for an nvidia (gainward) gts450 1go, all my problems vanished and everything is fine now (with 160 different tables). and i have the feeling that everything runs smoother and loading times seems faster also .
hope it can help

Okay, problem solved! What I had to do was, in the Future Pinball editor, click on Preferences > Video/Rendering Options, then in the lower right corner set Model Quality to "High". This worked for all three tables that weren't previously loading - Big Bang Bar, Addams Family, and Fireball Classic - plus a fourth, Star Trek Next Generation, that also wasn't loading until today. As Kaiser47 noted, a better video card is really in order, as the pathetic Radeon that came with my HP is fairly useless, and that Nvidia GTX 550 is calling my name. But if you're having the same problems I was, try the above solution.

This worked for me also. Thank you.

Isn't that what The Loafer suggested in msg. #2, and what you said you tried in #3? Or is that a different "high" setting somewhere?

That is indeed what Loafer suggested, and I think what I must have done at the time was checked the "high quality pinball models" box instead of setting model quality to "high". Different settings and obviously different results.

Same problem here, and impossible to play Addams Family or Indiana Jones, and I tried all the tricks above. I got a lovely runtime error .... Damn you ATI and your 7970 Xfire !
Next card will be an Nvidia for sure .... Anyway, I still have Medieval Madness perfectly working to wait until the Geforce 790 gtx got released... Could be worse ![]()
