Hello. I'm a first timer. I'm sure that a SIMPLE answer that I seek is somewhere out there, but don't have a clue where to look without getting more confused.
Here's the issue. After I download a table and it's Roms, when I go to open and play, this is what comes up.
"Machine terminated. Before initializing, check the rom path or file Games roms invalid."
When i downloaded the roms, I did not extract them and placed them in the proper VppnMAME folder
In the box that pops up.."VpnMAME is looking for ROM set is missing, can't run the game" If I press don't care continue anyway, I get the table that looks like it is ready to play. The coin drops, but no ball comes out and no flippers work and cannot start the game. If I press OK then a box comes up "Games Roms invalid."
This happens on every table that I have tried after I download the games and Roms
I hope that the solution is a simple one. I'm not a tech guru.
Thanks

I think the simplest solution is to point you in the direction of the Installation Guide.
If, after going through the steps in the guide, you still have trouble, let us know.

I overlooked one small point. I got it now. Sorry for the bother, but at the same time thanks for the quick reply. The one thing that I don't know how to get rid of is when playing a table (Big Hurt/ Medeviel Madness ETC), there is a BIG rectangular box in the upper left corner that has scoring on it that blocks out a portion of the game while playing it. Tried all of the keyboard letters and numbers to get rid of or reduce it, but nothing seems to ged rid of it. Thanks again for all of your help.

Hello, rooftop35, and welcome to VPF!
To move the rectangular box (dmd, or dot-matrix display), simply click-and-drag it to a new location. To change its size or shape, right-click on any part of it and select Show window border from the dropdown menu, then drag an edge or a corner to where it looks good. If you don't want to keep the white border, right-click again to get the menu, and click Show window border again to un-check it.
Happy Pinballing!

Hi me again. So far EVERYTHING has been going quite well. But i noticed on a "few tables" that this has tendencies to happen
Here's the issue. After I download a table and it's Roms, when I go to open and play, this is what comes up.
I get the table that looks like it is ready to play. The coin drops, but no ball comes out and no flippers work and cannot start the game.
One example that I'll give is is Batman Forever,
Back To The Future has tendencies on this issue as well.
I am MAKING SURE that i download "ALL" of the roms that are available.
Other than that, for the most part, been having a lot of fun.
Any ideas on how I can get the "STUBBORN TABLES" to start easier?
Thanks again.

It could be that you need the pre initialised nvrams for some tables , mainly gottlieb system 3. Un zip them to your nvram folder
http://www.vpforums....u...l&f_id=1362
another thing being a Sega table, is it could be that the coin door being open. Try pressing end and then try again.
Hope it helps.
Also the quick easy way to reduce the big DMD window, you can toggle with F5. If not, do as explained before with the "Show window border".

I followed your link aand downloaded and unzipped as instructed. No luck with the Batman Forever. No biggie. There Are PLENTY of other tables to play. The Batman's forever design rather intrigued me though.
Thanks for your reply.

Make sure you are playing VP8 tables in VP8 and VP9 tables in VP9. When DL'ng a table, you will notice that it specifies that it is either a VP8 or VP9 recreation.
Thank you. I'm still in the learning process. I did what you mentioned in the quote above and it helped on some of the tables that gave me trouble getting started But I'll tell ya.....that Batman Forever is a real stickler to get it to play.
Still no success even when I did what you mentioned in the above quote. I get the audio, music, sound effects, and coin drop, but no ball and flippers to start the game.
Even if this one never plays, I want to thank everyone that has replied to all of my posts in helping me in getting started and learning. I am jam packed up to my eyeballs in some real life "Eat at the mind" tough situations, and the enjoyment that I have been having on the pinball tables with the ones that I have working properly has added a better balance to everything. Thanks to everyone again.

You probably already did this, but just in case...
Did you download the VB Scripts from the Getting Started dropdown menu at the top of this page?
A lot of tables will not run properly without these files in your VBS folder.

Hello, I recently had a professional tech friend of wipe my computer clean and reinstall XP, because it had not been done in 5 years and was really slowing down. In doing so, naturally everything from this site has to be redownloaded. (before i had it wiped clean, i saved everythng on an external drive)
Here's my problem. I went through the entire installation process and when I download tables and tried to open them up. all i get is the gray animation outline of the table that comes on the screen.
Here is the part that will not come up from the installation guide
right-click the VPinball.exe inside the VP folder, choose "Preferences", from there go to the "Compatibility" tab, check "Compatibility mode" and choose "Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5)" from the drop-down menu. Confirm and exit.
when i right click vbinbal.exe inside the vp folder, No choice of the word preference comes upl Not sure what went wrong because last time i installed VP (before my computer was wiped clean) i could have sworn i did everything exactly the same, and i had no problems.
Any help would be appreciated. I had about 20 tables that worked great, and i miss playing them

After right clicking you need to click on "Properties" at the bottom of the list.
Then the compatibility tab will show up.

got past that. I went through the entire process again, and now when I attempt to open up a table in the tables folder, a black window opens and closes real quick. Man, i wish there was an easier way to do this. Really getting frustrated.
After right clicking you need to click on "Properties" at the bottom of the list.
Then the compatibility tab will show up.
when i said GOT past that, i meant the Properties quotes. My last post should have been unde that quote

Preferences... Properties: it's my fault
! When I wrote the Installation Guide I mixed up "Preferences" with "Properties" when I referred to the right-click menu of Windows. You're the first one to recognize it
.
I have corrected the Installation Guide, so it's ok now and says "Properties":
right-click the VPinball.exe inside the VP folder, choose "Properties", from there go to the "Compatibility" tab, check "Compatibility mode" and choose "Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5)" from the drop-down menu. Confirm and exit.
Hope it's all clear now.

Hate to be a pain, but i don't know what else to do anymore. I printed out the installation instructions, and TOOK MY TIME making sure that I did everything right. And when it comes time to opening a table, I still get the blueprint screen and not the table itself.

Maybe I am misunderstanding, but the blueprint screen is supposed to come up when you load the table.
What happens after you press F5 to start the table?
