Pachinko Birds 2011b WS

Version: 2011b
Category: VP 9.x Recreations

Author(s): Bob5453

Description:
widescreen VP9.1.X
Version 2011b - I forgot to fix the spacebar to work with Dan's fix to allow rapid shooting. You can shoot the balls up with [Return] or [Spacebar] My 5 year old grandson was playing it today and I noticed it then. smile.gif He seemed to like this game.

Version 2011a allows you to shoot the balls as fast as you want. It's not the way to play Pachinko, but it won't break the strength meter anymore if you do it. Thanks to Wizards_Hat (Dan) for fixing this for me.

Updated my Pachinko for VP9.1.X in Widescreen

I own this real Pachinko Game and this recreation feels like playing the real game.

I have made this into a 100 ball game and it will record your Highscore. Real Pachinko uses balls the way a slot machine would use tokens or coins, you could play it as long as your money lasted, but I wanted to make this more of a game. This doesn't change anything in gameplay compared to the real game, it just gives me the opportunity to add a highscore tally.

I need to thank myself for taking such nice pictures, creating the layout and doing the scripting. I did a bang up job. smile.gif

There is an interesting Pachinko history that displays itself in the Large scroll as you play the game.

Right on bob!! you are doing a really great thing by releasing these tables in WS. I can't wait to see if you conver them all eventually and release them. I personally would love that. Thanks a lot, and sorry about whooping your scores on Marvel lastnight!!! smile.gif

Thanks! When i was 13 (am 51 now) I bought from Sears of all places, a pachinko machine. we lost it when it finally fried itself years later, but this one is close to that one. i love it's realism, of course it helps to own the real one huh! thanks for this! cool.gif

I am having a problem with it. after shooting the sixtieth ball the gauge just dies. it lets the balls come out at minimum strength so I can still slide them across the screens bottom half hence the score you see here. I was at around 164 but kept on hitting negatives due to the fact all the top scoring holes were now unreachable. just thought I'd let ya' know, and yes, I played it in vp9.1.1 nice game otherwise, just as tough (and real gravity, too!) as the one I remember

That only happens if you are shooting the balls up too fast as explained in the first post, you have to wait for the GO light to be off. Even on a real Pachinko game from this era, you can't rapid fire the balls or they will become jammed. When this happens, you can just hit the 2 key to end the game and then press the 1 key to start a new game, also mentioned in the first post. Thanks for trying out the game, it's hard to believe that Japan is addicted to this game. smile.gif

[EDIT] - BTW, I tried to make it so you could rapid fire the balls up, but I got tired of trying to figure out the code. Maybe Dan will see this and look at it and come up with a solution. smile.gif

looks like you are having a problem playing a ws table on a 4:3 monitor to begin with faralos.

Another thing to notice is the size of the text in Faralos' screenshot compared to mine. I have a large text display and he has a small one. This is the reason I try to avoid using any textboxes in my tables, they never look right when someone posts a screenshot. I was forced to use one here for the large scroll on Pachinko history, so I also used them on the score, but they aren't very pretty compared to reels. His problem with the ball isn't using 4x3 resolution, but he's using a 4x3 res on a WS monitor to play a WS table, even a redneck wouldn't do that.... J/K smile.gif

Thanks Billy, I have made this into a 100 ball game and it will record your Highscore. Real Pachinko uses balls the way a slot machine would use tokens or coins, you could play it as long as your money lasted, but I wanted to make this more of a game. This doesn't change anything in gameplay compared to the real game, it just gives me the opportunity to add a highscore tally.

Great pachinko Bob! It plays great!

Pachinko is really only fun if you are playing for money. On my real pachinko at home, I will start usually with 50 balls, and see if I can win them all (I have around 400 now only). I'll sometimes run out of my 50 balls, 3 or 4 times in a row, before I get on a streak. Most times, I cannot win all of the balls.

Maybe you could set up a high-score system like that? Allow us to start at 100 balls, and play continuously.. The amount of balls you leave the game with could even be saved and restored for your next session. The highest amount of balls that you ever have would be considered the 'high score'. This way, if you pretend really hard... it can still feel like you are gambling (you have the choice to quit while you're ahead. smile.gif )

I am still going to get around to making my virtual Pachinko hybrid machine one day. Pachinkab? smile.gif

Here are a few pictures of my machine. I am going to pull it out and clean it up and get some good pictures to make for my mod. I appreciate the permission, thanks.

i like yours rawd, i've never seen a hot air baloon design on a pachinko, the birds is common though.

Hot air balloons, turtles, and owls. Go figure. smile.gif

I just pulled it out of storage and got a better shot...

For those who have never seen one.. In my opinion, the coolest thing about these old machines, is how they work. They requires absolutely no power or electronics. They run completely off of weights and pulleys and passageways in the back of the machine. The weight of the balls, and different counter-weights run all of the action behind the scenes. Even the bell when you win, is just all of the balls hitting a bell. smile.gif My machine can be hardwired to run the flashing lights when you win, but in 30 years, I have never tried to power it.

Here is a picture of the back..

(I should take another picture when I have those covers off.. and maybe make a video if people are interested. The inner workings of these things is pure genius.)

Cool pics Rawd. My 2 lights run off of a big battery, I think it's called a lantern battery. You are probably one of the few people who would know that I didn't animate those characters in the middle. If the ball goes through the top center, it makes those two guys dance. I made this game pretty easy, because I wanted people to win, I've found people like to win. smile.gif So you would always win all of the balls if you played long enough.

I bought my Pachinko at a Garage sale about 30 years ago for 15.00 dollars, it had about 250 real Pachinko balls with it, this means they have Japanese writing on them. I then went to some manufacturing company and bought 400 ball bearings of the same size, I think I paid 50 or 60 dollars for them. smile.gif

Every time I would to go to the basement and flip the handle, it would be clogged up, my kids or one of their friends had the balls clogged, everyone wants to just rapid fire the balls onto the playfield, not realizing that it is a game of some skill. I remember a couple of times, the only way I could unclog it was to turn it upside down and shake it.

The mechanical workings are really impressive, like you said. I have an old Remington cash register from around 1900 and it is incredibly impressive how it works, it will even print the numbers on a paper, like a restaurant bill, I think the highest amount you can enter for one item is 2.99 cents.

Probably, but it would be in Japanese. smile.gif They call these Vintage Pachinko and I would guess this one would be from the 60's

I like the way the strength meter works now, the meter stops when you shoot a ball up, this shows you the force you applied to the (pretend) shooter lever, which powers the ball onto the playfield. In the current setup, it will work great if you wait for the GO light to be lit, but if you try to rapidly plunge balls (or don't wait for the GO light to be lit) onto the playfield by just quickly hitting return repeatedly, the meter quits working and the balls are shot up at the lowest strength unless you restart a game.

I tried quite a few things, but I can't make it work while still keeping the same setup. You'd think it would be an easy fix by adding, If ReadyLight.State=0 then exit sub or something similar, but it will still mess up something if you rapidly press [Return]

I know it will work with a flag somewhere, but I needed to give up on it for now. smile.gif

Fixed:
Just needed one line adding.

Change
CODE
If keycode = PlungerKey And ReadyLight.State=1 Then
      InPlay=True

to
CODE
If keycode = PlungerKey And ReadyLight.State=1 Then
      Done=false
      InPlay=True

You will still have the strength meter paused whilst manic button pushing is being done, but if you wait for the GO light to relight, the strength meter will work again correctly.

Regards,
Dan.
