Flash Gordon (Scapino)

Version: 3.1.0
Category: VPinMAME 8.x Recreations

Author(s): scapino

Description:
Third Release v3.1 10-1-2009
Third Release v3.1 10-1-2009

Thanks to ncgqprophet for pointing out some typos in the menu, a few fixable reel image problems,
and the fact my glass height was too high, allowing the ball to occasionally jump into the plunger lane.

The whole table is animated now, and I've added support for both the Squawk and Talk rom,
and the Vocalizer rom sets.

This version was built in VP 8, and It seems to work fine in VP 9 as well, though the physics are different.

The 16:9 cabinet version is done as well.

Thanks go out to kristian, and gaston, for their version of VPM Flash Gordon. I played many games on it, to improve my version.

Late thanks to Guru, for his fresh, hot-off-the-press scan of the english language manual for Flash Gordon.

Enjoy Flash Gordon!

Kurt Herman

Unfortunately, we aren't on the upgraded site yet, so we don't have a most recent updates list, so I think everyone should know....

I am currently working on a 16:9 cabinet version, just as I did with Mata Hari.

Are you kidding?! Not bumping a Scapino release is a crime!

Great job, man! I wish I had more time in my day to set aside to play all your tables.

Fantastic table Scapino! Another great one.

One note, the Vocalizer rom I d/l from the VPforums.com site appears to have one file within the zip that has a bad CRC. At least with my standard pinmame non-cab version.

I found the correct vocalizer rom, or at least it works I mean on IPDB.org. Here is a link if you want to use that rom, it sounds better imo than the standard squaker rom.

Hope that helps.

Excellent Scapino! Gameplay is improved and table looks better in VP8 but both VP8 and VP9 are sharing the same upper flipper graphic bug.

Very cool thanks scapino. smile.gif

If I could make just one suggestion though, the way the ball changes its texture based on whether its on the main playfield or in the ball plunger lane is fantastic but it happens a little too visibly (you can see the moment it changes). Perhaps consider adding a hidden trigger a little below RightRolloverSwitch1 (hidden under the plunger lane plastic towards the top of the lane) and have that activate the ball texture change rather than RightRolloverSwitch1

This way the texture change will happen when the ball is out of sight and seem a little more natural.

Fantastic work as always.

Edit: Speaking of changing the texture on the ball, if anyone here hasn't ever played Emkaah's version of Space Shuttle, do yourself a favour and check it out. It has an amazing example of simulated realtime ball reflections, something which I havent really seen since in other tables unless someone knows of another example?

Thats a good idea, Gravy.

I think Plumb made a version of Xenon (which I rendered a bunch of ball images for), that changed the reflective ball image depending on where the ball was on the table.
