The family and I really like this classic Gottlieb table. Only problem with the VPX recreation is that the Dispatcher’s voices were hard to hear (over the music and other sound effects), so I investigated and corrected it. I learned how to get into this audio-adjustment mode from a Gottlieb table sounds-issue post made here long-ago by TA2686.

Preparations:
In VPX / Prefs / Video / … temporarily Disable “Force Exclusive FullScreen Mode”
In the Table’s F1-Options, the ROM’s normal DMD/Display Window must be visible on some screen (at least for now)
- I had to temporarily un-check the “Use External DMD-DLL” so that I could click on the ROM’s actual VPinMame DMD.

Start the Table.
Click on the PinMame DMD (Scoring) window
Press the tilde key (~) to display a white box inside (or the key to the left of the 1 key on non-English keyboards).
When the white box appears press the Up and Down arrow keys until you come upon the audio channels.
Leave the Volume = 0dB (but notice that is already full-right at 100% max). I think this is “Master Volume”.
For each audio channel press the Left and Right arrow keys to adjust the channel volume.
On some bars, you might see the Default defined, but feel free to set to your desired level.
When you are done adjusting the channels press the tilde key to close the white box. It saves your changes automatically.
Click anywhere on the table to return focus to the table.

I proceeded to do some testing and mapped-out the various audio-channels:

DAC #0 & #1                       Volume Music Drum-Kit     Left/Right channels       Set both to 45%
VM2151 #0 CH-1 & CH-2    Music Melody                    Left/Right channels       Set both to 70%
MSM6295 #0 (Voices 0-2)   Various Sounds Effects like Sirens & Copter          Set these around 30%
MSM6295 #0 (Voice 3)        Dispatchers & Callers                                             Set to 95%
Mech Sounds #0-#5             I think machine’s sounds                                        Set to 30%

For us, the important one was the “Dispatchers & Callers” so I set that one High and the others Low. And while the music is good, I also turned it down a bit (from Default) to help hear the Dispatchers.

This is how I run it:
I’m using Antisect’s Rescue-911 VPX Table
I’m using rom-set rescu911.zip
I’m using Wildman’s matching directB2S. Be sure you are running it in EXE-MODE.
In VPX / Prefs / Video / … normally “Force Exclusive FullScreen Mode” should be ENABLED.
I normally set “Use External DMD-DLL” in F1-Options because I run a (simple) but nice AltColor that someone made.
- In VP-Table Editor / Table Properties / User / Ball / Trail and Reflection are both set to OFF
- In VP-Table Editor / Table Properties / Visuals / Ball / Reflection of Playfield / IS UNCHECKED
* Even with above 3-things disabled, light-bulbs still reflect off the ball.
- Runs smooth as glass (even during MultiBall).

Hope this helps someone else. I’m expecting this procedure might work with other Gottlieb/Premier/System-3 tables.

2025 Edit: When migrating this Table, be sure to copy-over not just the nvram file, but also the rescu911.prt file in \memcard\ folder (that seems to contain the above programming).
